on second thought…
noooo!!!
close that gap of doubt he has
yo. Ill be in midland aat around 7:30. prolly there till 9 or so. Adrian, if ur free we should hit up some casuals. let me know something.
Dude we need to get our Ranbat season started what is going on??? Seriously lets get the ball rolling its already the end of january and MvC3 is out in less than a month!
Whats up with Ghengis Shenlong Bo? or do we need to consider changing plans?
I know, I know. I have done my part on the Genghis Grill thing. Waiting on ShenlongBo to get back to me.
As for ranbats, I have also done my part lol. I am working with the lubbock guys to see what we can do to get something going. Waiting on them to get back to me.
I have a question for everyone that wants to play in the ranbats. Would you guys consider driving to lubbock to play every weekend? If not, how about every other weekend? It’s only a 2 hour drive… carpool and have everyone split the $30 of gas it takes to get there and back. It’s not bad.
Here is something I am working on if you’re interested.
The guys from Dallas are getting together to help the community. Since EVO left out the south from its championship series, they are hosting their own called the “UPPER”-cut tournaments series (UCC), and we are going to be a part of it. At the end of the month (probably starting in february), everyone from west texas (Lubbock, Midland, Odessa, and surround areas) will participate in a tournament worth UCC Seed Points. These Seed Points will be used to rank all of the UCC members/Tournament attendees as everywhere else in texas have tournaments worth Seed Points too. Based on how many Seed Points you have, you will be able to select where you are in the bracket in the “UPPER”-Cut Southern Championship that they will hold in Dallas in the future. Pretty tight right?
I have finally found something that people can play for besides money. Now we have initiative. Keep in mind, if you have enough Seed Points, you can have a first-round bye at the UCSC in Dallas.
Once this gets up and going, the thing (or "ranbats) we hold with Lubbock, Midland, Odessa and surrounding areas will basically be Pot tournaments to get better and practice for the UCC Seed Point tournamen (which we will hold in one of the areas above), Which we will use to practice and get better for the big UCSC Tournament in Dallas.
I’m doing what I can guys. All I need is your participation.
Yes I am willing to make that kind of commitment. I am also willing to go to lubbock for ranbats. I like the tournament set up for the West Texas area. LETS ROCK!
My one problem is I dont have my own vehicle. I will pitch for gas.
Thanx Chair for doing an awesome job!
Sup guys. This is James, from the Lubbock area.
Great post. Like the ideas. We are down to set something up with you guys. We have been playing once a week (usually Thursdays) for about 3 weeks now. Been the same group of people. We have placed flyers @ some local businesses and the local college. It just started back this week, so hopefully our scene will grow. Especially with the hype around MvC3. I know our Gamestop is gonna throw a midnight release tournament, so hope to pick up some players there.
As far as the collabo, we could do every other week on a weekend? Like say, saturday? I think that would be good. get some players to level up. Also we can either go over there, or vice versa. We need to find a good place. We are willing to do whatever to help the community. That’s why we started our weekly get together/ranbats over here.
I’ll be texting you more about it, saw.
Whatever the situation, we do have 3 lag free monitors ready for travel.
Saw, I had no idea you were in talks w/ the UCC tourney organizers. That sounds like a great idea. When we get our ranbats/tournaments set up with you guys, I think it will go well.
Good to see you guys are still down.
Hope everyone helps out.
Sry for the long posts in advance. So much is happening.
I have just been informed that UCSC Seed/Ranking tournaments can be held once a week. Once we all get back from Killeen, This should be our focus.
I have 2 ideas for the collaboration.
- We can hold them every saturday (or sunday), and alternate what city hosts it every weekend. The bonus of this is that tourney could be worth Seed/Ranking Points.
- Each city can hold their own tournament one weekend, like a local ranbat that we have been doing, and then collaborate every other weekend to hold a bigger tournament worth Seed/Ranking points. I can’t really think why this would be a better choice, save schedule. Also what just came to mind is that not everyone would be willing to travel. If this is the case, this would be a better choice.
If we alternate hosts on idea 1, both ideas weigh pretty equally on our wallets.
Have in mind that these points are actually pretty hard to earn. The amount of points you can earn come directly from the size of the tournament. Basically, for every 8 people you have, the tournament qualifies for a higher bracket of points. 8 people qualifies for one point going to the winner. If their are 16 people, 2 go to first place, 1 goes to second place, so 16 people qualifies for 3 points total. 24 ppl would qualify for 6 points (3,2,1).
Our collabo tournament will definately be worth 1 seed/ranking point, maybe 3 if we get 16. Tell me what you guys think. Idea 1, Idea 2, or your own idea.
I also think our main focus of games should be SSF4 and MvC3. These seem to draw the crowds. let me know what you guys think about this also.
The more i think about it, the more I’m leaning to collaborating every other weekend. It just seems better. This falls under idea 2, and we could also alternate hosts on this.
This also means less point up for grabs, but hey at this point its all about growing the community. gotta start somewhere
Great stuff Chairman. I’m glad to see you guys all working together to build the community. You guys should also plan to come out to Dallas for a Bar Fights we are having on March 5th. That way you can come meet us and see what we are all about.
I think we should go with idea 2 just because there will be something going on all the time, more practice will only help us when we go to Dallas.
I agree that our main focus should be SSIV and MVC3 but you know me haha I’d like to see some KOF XIII in the mix as well. Geese told me that it should be coming out early March. If need be I can take care of all the stuff regarding KOF.
I hope everyone can try to make it to Killeen.
Yeah i want to do KOF XIII too, and i was under that whole rumor that it wasnt going to come to consoles. If it does, i would really like to throw it in the mix.
Me and Sh!n can probably make it. Thing is we are going to Killeen the weekend before and we might be short on funds. We will try our hardest.
Yeah, I was leaning towards idea 2. Just because I know it would be harder to get more people at a tourney every week, especially if it were @ a different place every week.
But every other week, alternating locations would be good. So essentially, the people entering the collab tourneys would need to plan on attending the “Dallas” tourney in May. Since that is where their points will matter. Correct?
But if we do go with idea 2, we would get less points since we only get points during the collab tourneys, right?
So SSFIV & MvC3 sound like 2 good games to focus on. I agree. Although I do have a copy of Arcana Heart 3 on PS3, just in case they decide to allow it @ EVO! :wgrin:
But yeah, we can definitely talk more about this in Killeen in person. I will be there friday night till Sunday morning. So we have time.
I have already made plans to attend the March 5th tourney. So for sure i’ll be there.
Awesome stuff! I have even more good news.
Its been decided that here @ Odessa College we are going to hold a SSFIV and MvC3 Tourney late in March! Im not sure about date and time yet. It will most likly be held on one of the last 2 fridays in march. So in a couple of weeks I am going to try to get stuff set in stone because I know whith a good couple of months we can get a good turnout.
We have 4 set ups here but we could probably get more if we needed to. So here in a few weeks when i know more Ill make a thread in the tourneys section and see if we cant get some ppl in!
Hey, I’m over at Tech. Been looking for the street fighter scene for just a couple weeks now, I’ve got one or two other guys at my apartment who’d probably want to get in on the weekly thursdays that Jam Bonne was talking about and probably me and just one of my roomates would travel to Odessa or anywhere close to there for some tournaments. Let me know if y’all have room.
Yeah, let us know ASAP about the tourney. We can make it for sure.
Hey, I’m gonna send you a PM with more info.
Man, I’m not gonna stop getting slammed at work for a WHILE, so I’m glad to see you guys have been working on stuff. To keep things short:
It looks like the GG idea can take a back burner to some more solid connections. I’m cool with that. I see that place a ton anyway, and at this rate, it would be better if some of YOU guys showed up and organized it, because I never have time. But nah, let’s do what Chairman said.
My Xbox RRoD’d. Trouble is, I still wanna play really, really bad. I’m usually off on Wednesdays, and I’m down to start playing money matches. Nothing too serious, just enough to keep me from BS-ing. I want to have a solid showing if I can make it to Dallas on March 5th. So if any of you guys are ever down for some sets (say like, first to 10 for 10 bucks or something), let me know. Extra-super cool if you guys could accommodate riding out to Midland as well, but if not, I understand.
…but it’s worth it.
Just a little update on the SF AE that is coming to our arcade, I was informed yesterday that it’s 100% going to happen in the summer. They seem very excited about getting it plus they are getting another set of fighting game cabinets of I’m not sure what so that’s going to be surprise I guess. (crosses fingers for KOF XIII)
