Probably not much: the login screen needs to be a secure surface (obviously, since it’s how you log in), so that’s not really an emphasis point as regards allowing customization. Until you log in, your profile isn’t even loaded so there’s no … settings/customization of yours to be shown anyways.
The policy override there is solid. The software there is batshit insane. The images used are not image files, they’re embedded in a system file needed to be able to load your system. I see way too many people with “uhhhhh my system doesn’t boot anymore” errors from that.
It really bothers me that people that write stuff like this don’t take more pride in their work. It’s not hard to write good/clean software and like you know not corrupt critical system files. =P
The login screen runs before you’re actually logged in, so customizing something based upon your account settings before your account settings are loaded is an interesting challenge. shrug
Windows 10 with classic shell in windows 7 mode is pretty good so far. I use classic shell just because the very sight of the metro app store is offensive to me.
Tried it last night on my laptop as a test run. It’s back to 7 now. lol. It’s UI is definitely better than 8 without Classic Shell, but I just don’t see any reason to use it. It’s only ‘features’ are basically spyware, forced updates and Siri. DX12 is years away from software actually making use of it. And the performance difference right now is negligible. Basically sacrificing your privacy/control for… nothing?
Maybe when DX12 is relevant, I’ll upgrade. For now, no.
I just really like the tiles you can add in the start menu. Because I hate when my desktop is cluttered and I like having a nice background always visible. You can put the desktop in the task bar on the bottom right, but win 10 is better for that.
People are in for a rude awakening. MS is slowly adding some of those same spyware features to 7/8, so it really makes no difference at this point unless you turn off Windows updates forever.
As a person that upgraded from 7, I honestly can’t see how anyone would ever want to go back. Some progs run a lot better for me, and now I’ve got universal apps that I can use for things like Youtube and Twitch without having to open the browser and go to the sites. Twitter mentions, new email, and other stuff pop up in the Action Center, which I like. And Cortana has reminded me about a couple packages I was having delivered, otherwise I would’ve had to open the browser, go to Gmail, open the email, click the tracking #. That’s 4-5 clicks reduced to 1.
Switched to 10 last night. Took about 2 hours. So far everything is running well, hell chrome no longer gets all crazy with multiple tabs open. gonna try out the apps, any recommendations?
People are really getting vocal about tile customization. Only a matter of time before MS makes it a reality. They’ve adopted the same feedback approach to W10 as they did with Xbox One to give people what they want.
