Microsoft Windows 10 thread

Those that insist on a Mac these days that aren’t professional video editors are fucking idiotic and deserve to have been swindled by the cult of Apple. :coffee:

6.2 is Windows 8
6.3 is Windows 8.1
10.0 is Windows 10

Windows 10 is not NT core 10.

Different numbers.

Here’s what I got:

6.1 = Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Home Server 2011

6.2 = Windows 8, Windows Server 2012

6.3 = Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2

10.0 = Windows 10, Windows Server 2016

\

That is OS version not Kernel version.

Windows 10 might be OS version 10, but the kernel is 6.4.
Some software mistakenly reports this as 6.2 as so little have changed on the kernel level since Windows 7.

For Windows 10 its the shell that is updated not the kernel.

There’s still time to upgrade to windows 10

Moving this tangent to the right thread…

@Jion_Wansu Startup / shutdown sounds aren’t configurable because they’re non-performant. If you add [look up sound settings, maybe play a sound] you add “n” milliseconds of delay into either seeing the desktop or shutting down the PC. Neither are things people are super excited about. Having startup/shutdown be as performant as possible is pretty important.

I’m having some issues updating Windows 10. I keep getting this error - (0x800705b4). I’ve googled some stuff to fix it but nothing is working. I tried Windows 10 Update Assistant but it hung up at 99% for 3 days. I still cant get it to update and running the update troubleshoot doesn’t seem to do anything. I cant even download stuff from the windows store, it just says preparing download but never downloads.

Anyone have any idea what I can do to solve this issue or point me in the right direction to help solve it?

Thanks in advance.

On my PC my wireless printer goes offline after a period of time. Finally found the reason why it keeps happening and a solution

So, since none of y’all bustas was any help with my windows 10 issues I figured I’d give yous one more shot before I just forget about this thread and hit up dat PC thread.

OK, thanks to dude up in the PC thread my computer is back and running fine. Only thing is that when I open my internet browser (Firefox the top (colored) section is not translucent. How can I get it to be so? Everything else is but the window.

Was it ever?

That’s actually mostly my team. I don’t know what Firefox is doing there, though, nor if that is expected to work. If the transparency settings are On over in Settings this might just be Firefox doing their own thing…? I’d have to check.

Its every window. It seems with the latest update they did away with some stuff. The Task Bar and Start Menu are transparent, windows aren’t.

Oh, and yes, that top portion of any/all windows was transparent.

Does your team work on the Windows games as well? Chess Titans in Windows 7 was good.

About the “start me up” music when Windows starts and its shutdown music/theme; can we get this for Windows 10 in the future?

should i upgrade my desktop to windows 10?
im fine with win7…but im wondering if windows 7 will be considered obsolete before another version of windows comes out 5 to 10 years from now.

I would upgrade. If you don’t like it, you can revert back to win7. But win10 runs well and fast.

You can apply some of these fixes if you for better performance

Win 7 is already is obsolete, there a few things Win 7 can’t do, a few restrictions where you can go with hardware that Win 10 don’t have a issue with.
Some of that is MS not allowing certain things go to older Windows OSes like DX12, other thing is Windows 7 updates and patches has ended.
With some rare exceptions Microsoft is not supporting Win 7 any more.

upgrading now. i already have windows 10 on my tablets. just wondering about desktop. thats all. thx

No, I’m over in serious nongame land. I helped on Tinker.

Unofficially, fuck no to anything more than what you see. That would negatively affect time to desktop and/or shutdown time and that is very bad.

ran into a small snag

but i fixed it all by myself. like a big boy.
