Agreed, use the rules of good internet research when looking for fixes. Look at the credibility of that site before doing any changes or repairs to your OS.
Good site always ask/tells you to make backups before you make any changes. Microsoft themselves is a pretty legit source of knowledge and their knowledge base is quite useful.
Besides for some minor misgiving I find Win 10 pretty light weight and secure (if not for NSA exploits leaking to the world).
Talking about the NSA, Wanna Cry Worm is a current threat. Update your OS, back up your files and maybe invest in a good firewall.
There no recovery for the Worm, so don’t try to to fix it. If you got an infected computer take it off the network and shut it down.
I generally get my info from sound places. I don’t just look at random shit and say ok that’s fine. I’ll check out several different sources before I change/alter/remove/disable/install/whatevers. I ask here to get my first opinion, besides what I find on google, then I’ll hit up a couple/few more places and see what people there have to say.
So, Its been like a week of using windows 10. I’m still liking it so far. I’m still getting use to shit. I try to use that Cortana crap but it never seems to work. I mean, it does kinda. Sometimes I’ll say whatever “Hey Cortana” or some shit. The only thing that will happen is the task bar pops up and stays up and nothing works until I hit the escape key. Other times a small box opens up near the bottom of the screen, with a little circle in the middle but it doesn’t do anything. Other times it will open up the side bar and I have to hit the “mic” button to use speech but nothing happens.
I still cant get the Anniversary update to move from zero percent, and I got Win. 10 like 6 months ago. I don’t mind rocking an non-upgraded windows, but it makes me itch every time I go to turn it off and I see the update option staring at me. I keep having to tell myself not to do it, because it never works.
It is weird. If it weren’t for the fact that it’s for a desktop I don’t use much (I’m on my laptop 95% of the time), I’d seriously look into it. Maybe I should try to go straight into the creator’s update.
Yeah, I can see how random people online would be a better source of data than the guy who works in this field professionally and writes the software that you use.
The misinformation out there as regards troubleshooting PCs is bad enough that I’ve had a public presence in the support forums for over a decade now. I can’t solve all the problems, but I can at the least help out people experiencing problems in my areas. If I do say something about something outside my area - as is the case here - it’s because I’m pretty damned certain of what I’m talking about. lol
Well, I like to do the same thing with doctors in certain situations. You know, get a second or even third opinion. I don’t think any of those doctors are incompetent but I like…hmm…having options (I’m not sure if options is the right word here). Anyhow, I’m not insinuating that you don’t know what you’re talking about.
How can I change it so when opening a picture/image it uses like Photo Viewer by default? Right now its set to open them with 3D Paint and I don’t like that. I looked up how to change it and I followed the steps. Nothing changed though and when I went back to the settings that I had changed they were back to default.
