Microsoft project 2007 and 2010

Hi, there is a problem with Project 2010.
Background
User recently had Microsoft Project 2010 installed (though standard Office 2007 build).
Issue

  • User cannot open MS Project 2003 .MPP file.
  • Error message when file double-clicked: “C:/<filepath>/<file>.mpp is not a valid Win32 application”.
    Unsuccessful Fix Efforts
  • Changing file associations does not fix by GUI or cmdline, .MPP has no file associations with it.
  • “2010 Microsoft Office component” displayed instead of Microsoft Project 2010 in the ‘Open With’ dialog; browsing to find the “WINPROJ.EXE” executable in “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12” folder does not work either.

Spend the money and upgrade.

Another one?! So soon?!
DUDE… you must be so bored/lonely.

Do you need a hug?

Google is your best friend.
Usually the Microsoft support site has solutions for this very thing.

No can we please stop the Microsoft office questions on a forum that geared for Arcade Hardware Enthusiast.

ok, thanks. but it’s Tech Talk thread)

We are a Fighting game forums first, Tech Talk here deals with in that umbrella that is fighting games and things that relate to it.

Microsoft office is completely outside of what we are even concern with here.
You are better off going to the Microsoft support site and looking there.

Sounds like you have a major registry issue. remove all installed versions of Project.
download (if you don’t already have it) CCleaner and run the reg cleaner part though the system in question, to clear out any junk entries.
now reinstall Project 2010, and make sure you apply Service Pack 2, and a few other minor fixes (from your WSUS server if you have one or MS Updates). Once this is done, the MPP file type should be recognized. Test my double clicking some project files.
If after that this particular file does not open, and the rest of the files will open normally then you can try .mpp file repair. Sometimes Project Repair Kit helps me. . Though it is paid, but it is very powerful and I was able to recover 99% of information from a very damaged file. So I think that is a very good indicator.

really glad this is listed under ‘best of…’

Best of Fuckry perhaps.
