Apparently Fox TV still have the trademark “Killer Instinct” for a cancelled 2005 TV show. Microsofts application was denied as the application had the same letters and appearance. I guess it is time for them to get gangsta with “Killah Inztinkd”.
That site sums up what is said and it also has a link to the official documentation.
From what we’ve seen, Microsoft is clearly eager to renew the trademark. I find it bitterly funny that they are now being hampered by the patent office because some FOX Reality show that has been off air for 7 years is still relevant enough to cause mass hysteria.
I could swear not even a few months ago I read someone bitching because Rare wanted to renew the license but microsoft didn’t.
I say fuck it, Build the game, change it to “Instincts of a Killer” Launch it and have a secret character named Fox who starts special moves but never actually launches them. Fox will be the Dan of the game with the exception that he will NEVER be any good…ya know, like most the cast of MK: Armageddon.
That Copyright board is downright dim.
And I read this mess from Gamespot, BUT don’t Microsoft have a chance to plead their case? I would assume it wouldn’t take much to say that people won’t be confused about anything, but considering what just happened…
Only if they bring back the characters missing in 2 (minus the lame ass bosses), update the fighting system to make it as fluid as the current set of games and keep the create a fatalities.
