Although it’s not a big reason, the fact that school is almost over for quite a few students always brings the crowds down this time of year. Typically when the weather gets good enough here to the point where you know it’s not going to snow again has the same effect.
My solution, if only for a little bit, was to draw more of a crowd for AA Pinball Petes by having the tournament there. That way, they could prolong a little of their business before and after the tournament. But…they didn’t listen, and apparently they’re paying for it. They can’t be making money at this point and they have so many opportunities to do so. They know summer is a slow time, but I don’t see what they’re doing to alleviate the situation. Also note that w/o the players, PP hasn’t really held a tournament in over 7 years in regards to fighting games. Every one of them held has been through a gamer: Rusty, Cheese Master, myself, and to an extent, George Massu. All of them are either gone, doing other things, or taking their business elsewhere.
Even w/o CvS2 and 3S, this is going to be the largest tournament a MI arcade has seen - even beyond Wizzards. PP needs to carpe diem…but it’s too late from my perspective.
Seems like summer would be a great time for arcades to host some local events. Students don’t have homework, weather permits, you don’t have to step over hobos to get into the arcade, etc.
Makes you wonder how much of arcades’ struggles these days are their own fault. Not just Pete’s, but in general.
Sure, you can… just give me a call. I expect to leave to go to Oakland @4pm. I also might be attending an outside gathering for some more games on the PS3, so I am not sure how late you’d be able to stay out. I might end up staying there till like 1-2am : )
hmmm i just found out Cvs2 starts at 1 pm so i dunno ,so if i can’t get ne other ride then i would have to roll with u hai but if i can find a earlier ride i might have to take that. yeah but if i go with u 1-2 am is nothing lol i’m up late neways. I’ll call u and tell u whats going on
Oh, you’re talking about the tournament? I thought you were talking about today (I went to Oakland for some casuals).
I’ll definitely be going early on Saturday. Just make sure you’re ready to go. The sticks on the one CvS2 machine feels okay (I actually did some roll cancels with Vega) ^_^. I’ll give you a call sometime next week and let you know what time I’ll be headed up there, etc.
Looks like I might not be making it out to Mayn Event. I will do what I can, but things look dicey at this point.
The guy who runs Gamehits in West Lansing used to put together small console tourneys. I don’t think he does anymore, but I might talk to him and see if he has any future plans for that kind of thing.
I’d love to make it, but for one thing, if I go, I’ll basically be on my own, and I hate traveling by myself. The guys who I was previously planning to go with bailed on me.
For another, there’s a family wedding on Saturday, which I’m not interested in going to but might get roped into.
I talked to Shawn (the guy that runs gmhits) a few weeks back, he is waiting for a new game to come out first. He said his next tourny will probably be Halo 3. It might be a while before they host a fighting game tournament :sad: .
Well if u don’t mind driving out here in A2 me and a couple of friends who play cvs2 ,3rd usually come to my crib and get Casual /shit talking in twice a week maybe more ,i might have few friends from the D who comes and play also. so… just pm me if u guys are headed down here.
Oh btw, where will we all be meeting up? It’d be better (for me) if I can pick up everyone at one time. I’m thinking that leaving on Saturday at around 9am would be good (the mall opens at 10am and everyone can start getting practice and whatnot). I don’t know how far Kolonji or Cullen live from you, but if they can get down there, that’d be very convenient for me.
