Michigan Unite

Can someone point me in the right direction for a place to play around the Detroit area? I will be in town this weekend and I need to kill an afternoon, specifically on Friday. I play Marvel and old school SF primarily. If not, what’s the best way to kill some time in Detroit on a Friday? I’m over 21, so I’ll consider pretty much any suggestion that is not homosexual in nature. Any good places to hit up comercially? I will have a car so travel shouldn’t be an issue.

Thanks.

You might find competition here:

another suggestion here:

Join this more localized site and you may find possible comp here:

All of the above suggestions involve NO steers or queers to my knowledge.

So where are the Michigan tournaments??? Any??? by anybody??? Those sites don’t have street fighter tournaments…:frowning:

haha good deal. Thanks for the info.

Yes…one of them did…sorta.

Read all the way down to “
other tournaments”.

It’s called going out of state.

There really aren’t any MI tournaments, unless you host one and invite the rest of the SF crew.

Copied over from my post on MIG, I’m starting an IRC channel to make things easy for us, It would be cool if others would join.

#MIG on EFnet I’ll be there all the time.

If anyone needs any help setting up IRC or anything just ask.

Simple Directions - Obot’s idea.

IRC is basically a bunch of chat rooms.

Mirc is the program most commonly used to Reach IRC.
http://www.mirc.com/get.html free download.

When you first start up you will be asked to select user names and server.
Search around on the server list, for EFnet, It doesn’t matter which one you choose, As long as it says EFnet “there are a bunch with EFnet in the name” Basically.

Once all of that junk is set, you click on the little Lightning Icon, it will connect you to EFnet.

Once you are connected, click on the “Commands” tab, and select join server.

Type In , MIG in the field and it will automatically connect you to our server.

If you don’t see me or muffdaddy in the server you are probably not connected to EFnet.

memberofSTARS, HaiGuy: the Mayn Event is next month. It should remind everyone that there are still people who play these games in this barren wasteland of a state.

Last time I saw Rusty, which was unfortunately a long time ago (two months?), he recommended that I check out Mayn Event, which I’ve never done. If I can get someone to go with me, I will be there.

If I participate, it’ll be my first tourney ever. I will be fully prepared to receive $10 worth of my ass on a plate.

yeah i don’t work at pete’s nemore since they Bull shit so much, neways i’ll be running cvs 2 at mayn event (may 12)so if u have ne question just Pm me

Just tell me straight up: is everybody there going to be in your league, or do I at least have a chance of winning a match or two?

hmmm lol i dunno theres a few people u might want to watch out like tkk ,vdo, julian etc etc u should come neways just because it’s gonna be fun and meet new people, u might surprise people.

Hey, man, as long as I can get some people to come with me (moral support), I will be there. I’m just hoping I can take one or two guys down before I’m out.

On the subject of Michigan Uniting, I was in the East Lansing Pinball Pete’s last night and the place was dead. 10 PM on a Saturday night, and there were maybe a few people playing pool and shit like that. Depressing.

pinball petes = trash

I don’t even know what happened to it. It used to be the only decent local arcade. Now there are none. It’s basically a pool hall/DDR parlor at this point.

they got cheap, never updating games or fix things ,cvs 2 has been broke for like 2 years.

In EL, they’ll fix shit if you tell them about it. But it hardly matters since the good games either get moved to the back or get sent somewhere else. We don’t have 3S anymore, CvS2 is in a small cab near the far wall (used to be on a big screen in the middle), and MvC2 is wedged into a corner near the snack machines.

There is a big row of DDR type machines in the front though. Which is good if you’re into that shit, but it doesn’t exactly seem to be bringing in the crowds.

Really, I have asked them before about fixing the joysticks on cvs2. I was in there this weekend the sticks were still the same.

This is how Pete’s fix there machines, open up the cabinets spray windex “to clean off dust” then close that shit up and says it’s fixed ,ur suppose to change the button every 10 thousand push or sum shit like that but they never do.

When the sticks in the CvS2 machine here got too shitty to handle, I asked them to fix it and they actually put brand new sticks in. Maybe the AA Pete’s just has terrible management or something.

I don’t know why the attendance here is so low. I realize it’s stupid to expect the place to be hopping every night, but to go in on Saturday during prime time and see maybe four people in there? It’s fucking wrong.

As rusteezzy said, Pinball Pete’s isn’t what is used to be. Attendants that hardly care about machines and just give you your money back b/c they “can’t” fix it nerves me. I came here to play something, not get my money back. Might as well ask them for reimbursement for the gas I spent driving there.

I don’t play any 2D games, but of course, I enjoy watching people play them. I play Tekken instead and it’s no different. Card slots are filled with coins (which reminds me, I’m going to try to fish some out tonight to see if I can actually get a freaking card working). Nowadays, the place is filled with dust in the air and machines (and people) are accumulating it in their systems (due to a recent renovation project). I end up going elsewhere to play b/c a) I know there will be people there and b) the arcade attendants are better equipped to fix things.

MI should morally support their players, no matter what game they play. For those who know me, hopefully I’ll get support from you guys whenever my matches happen. I know I’ll certainly do the same for everyone else.

CVS2 and 3S at the Oakland Mall (site for the May’n Event tournament) are both on regular (not big screen) cabinets. I suggest those who are going to play those games in the tourney to come down and try the sticks out. I, myself, will be going down this Saturday afternoon (leave at 4pm, get there at 5pm) to get some Tekken games in, but if anyone in Ann Arbor wants a ride, let me know.

Gas money is all that’s required.
