Yea… I just got back. I did ok. Nothing spectacular (or what I was hoping for). The competition was hard as hell. From what I heard people who were placing top 10 at ECCs were getting double eliminated and shit. Yea, and I felt bad for Juan… who literally did not face anything but A groove. It was like everyone who saw a K groove or P groove player (all two of them)… literally just played A groove Blanka/Sakura/Bison. The Sagats were crazy good there too. I learned alot. All I know is in the final 8 players… the only offensive one was John Choi. His Ken and Guile were guard crushing people left and right. But everyone in the finals was very impressive.
And yes basically Juan and Julian got roll canceled to death… because they really didn’t know how to deal with it. How can you deal with something you never get to play against? Thats the problem when people take these higher moral grounds of I’m not gonna roll cancel or throw etc etc. But Juan was kicking ass in MvC2 last I saw. It was fun though, its always fun when every single person you play is good, and not some random bumfuck who just cries about this and that instead of just playing the game. By the end of the weekend Juan was getting a better hang of playing vs that A groove team.
As far as how I did, I did decently in the regular tournament. I think I went 2 and 2 or 3 and 2. In the reentry tournament I did crap, and went like 2 and 2. But it was still a fun weekend chilling in chicago. As far as GGXX goes, since I have never played the game on a stick… I went like 2 and 2. Scott got like 7th or 9th despite not ever playing on a stick before either.
Also after this weekend, I’m gonna play some A3… after getting my ass kicked in that game (cuz it was in freeplay)… I definitely wanna play that somemore (if there was only anyone to play). And on a side note Drac was down there kicking ass on TTT the first day (cuz it was on freeplay). After playing that, made me realize, I really hope Tk5 is more like TTT and not TK4.
Well thats my account of the weekend. And yes this weekend did confirm the already known fact that SvC is the shittiest fighting game ever created.
Uh… no… these guys were good at RCing. And the top 8 guys… they were very damn good at countering roll cancels to the point where they didn’t use them much against each other. Pretty much everyone there IMO (this is my opinion) would easily give anyone here a run for there money… if not beat them pretty badly. I mean there were maybe 3 players who sucked… and they all were much much much better than you (no offense). Everyone else was very very very good. IMO everyone who talked shit or cared to get better in CvS2 should have gone there and enjoyed getting enlightened. Also it would definitely help Juan’s game if Wizzards puts the damn game speed to the default speed… cuz he was missing alot of shit. Julian doesn’t do comboes… so I can’t say he was affected for sure.
