Well when I’ve been to TRU & Walmart recently and looked at them, they’ve looked like some shit from the dollar store. They’ve got friggin transformers that don’t even TRANSFORM. If I get to tRU today I’ll take a pic, but its ridiculous, you shouldn’t have to go to the high end to get a decent looking figure. And it’s sad because my son (3) is getting into that kind of thing now - he loves his ‘bots’ and his tmnt and his dragons - but I can’t with a clean conscious buy one of those ‘things’.
To be honest there are some decent figures in this current wave. The deluxe class versions Scorn [Spinosaur] and Slug (Slag) are actually decent figures. So is Bumblebee and Evasion Mode (G1 Look) Optimus Prime. Voyager Grimlock is actually the better version of the King. Leader Class Optimus Prime is a overpriced plastic thing [I am a Prime collector and I am skipping it will the next movie]. Everything else is meant for the kids, literally. As they are the one step changers or the giant plastic doll things.
I swear I thought someone snuck some bootleg stuff on the shelves…I couldn’t believe Hasbro would “OK” these toys. When they want to go “low cost”, they shrink the size, but this is ridiculous.
Yeah, those are exactly what I was talking about. Those are the “Titan” figures and the Dino Sparkers. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaasy pass for me. q
I was just shook because my boy wanted a transformer, and while I’m not going to get him everything he wants, if its at least in a similar vein as my interest, there is a higher chance of me saying “yes”. so we are going down the isle with “How To Train Your Dragons” to look for the rare dragons (like Screaming Death & Skrill, I’ve only seen a Scauldron once…copped), but on the opposite side were the transformers. The way they have them packaged though, the ‘high end’ figures are completely boxed up, but the cheaper shit is just ‘out’, so that’s what the kid’s see, so he sees the transfomers and is asking for one. I see the Samurai joint and think “haha someone messed up the packaging”, then I see more of them, then I see the other ‘crap’. I was like “OK well in the Transformers thread, they had some of the other movie figures were out already, so let me get a look”. so I start looking for Grimlock, and the first one I find…
At least that one transforms, but it doesn’t look ANYTHING like the frst one, so now I’m like “What’s he really look like?”
I dunno, I’m just not thrilled with the toys this go around. The Evolution pack looks MUCH better, but for now, my son is just going to have to make due with his Rescue Bots, and Xfers from 5 Below.
yeah I don’t understand all the different colorations for Grimlock, and whatever you do do not get him the Leader if he ever wants one. The current Leaders are pretty rip off status, but like I’ve said the VOyagers are fucking class.
Well, I’m not buying my son anything that cost more than $15. He’s 3, he enjoys boxes and long jogs around the house haha. There are some bumblee’s that look OK and some non-AoE based figures that he likes, so it’s not the end of the world, its just that the movie licensed stuff is HORRID (that I’ve seen at TRU & Walmart). It reeks of “Dumb parents will buy anything”.
I am steering so clear from it that it’s not even funny. It’s a nice try, but still leaves little to be desired IMO. I see where they are going with that design, so I am sure on screen it will look epic. However, the toys do it very little justice. It’s clear that they had to rush the concepts and build a model from an early version.
I still stand by saying that the best figure in the AoE line right now is Evasion Optimus Prime. It’s well engineered and nostalgia driven. If it weren’t for the paint apps and a faceplate, it’d have been perfect. I find it funny that the reason why Prime is a standard semi is due to the size proportion limitations of the COE type but we have this thing. I wish they would have just said that the COE truck isn’t really seen stateside and would have been the more than likely scan. Evasion Mode is clearly something Hasbro has been working on for a while. He even has DOTM Megatron’s shotgun LOL.
I made this gif from the trailer. I love the way the faceplate closes. There are quite a bit of subtle things that make it more badass than the previous “transformation”
Because Bay wanted to waste money on CGI animating robot mouth flaps, but still wanted to sneak in some nostalgia bait to trick OG fans into thinking he cares about what they want.
It’s really just a badass add on that allows the standard model to show more emotion. Realistically, it’s more on the side of showing that it’s about to go down. Also, please remember that this version of Optimus Prime was not the first to have the faceplate. Optimus Primal (S1 only) and Transformers Cybertron Optimus Prime also had that gimmick for the same reasons.
What I am liking is that the action shots we are seeing, you are able to actually “see” what’s going on in the moment. This is by far an improvement over TF1 and ROTF. Bay seems to be moving in the right direction. Too bad it took 4 movies to nail the camera thing down.
