lmao,
I understand about that online stuttering part. Shit is horrid. However, there is such a thing as “GOOD” online play and “Bad online” play.

lol so if the georgia team wins…yeah. don’t think they need a flight to fr.
since you wanna take things out of context, I slam whatever the Fuck i want. And about me being cool… im a grown ass man and im not here to try and look cool, i stated a FACT, weather you like it or not…online play will always be victim to everyones opinion about what is good online play or not… so relax with the smart ass comments, dont take stupid shots at me… about my characters, becuase last time i checked your not the only one who plays online right?
so me saying what i said earlier… about Online play is a general opinion about what you guys are talking about.
if you wanna take it personal thats a different thing on its own and you know who I am… i be at FR from time to time
k
Anyways, we got raped in the 5v5.
Is there a tournament today?
Seriously, relax, Manny. Yes, we all know who you are. Part of being a grown-ass man entails understanding when you’re caught in a stupid internet argument (ie. this one) and just letting it go, because when you argue on the internet, nobody wins.
That said: the internet at FR wasn’t very good to play on. I suspect Sling Broadband continues to be shitty for anything that requires latency. They’re a WiMAX service that gives you a steady 1.5 upload, but it seems to me like the connection drops packets left and right. That’s why no matter how well I set up the stream, it always seems to come saddled with a little bit of lag on the side.
Julio: we were never going to stream FROM the site at FR if you guys played there. I had already made arrangements to stream from a separate location, which was completely possible. Unfortunately, the connection was bad so you guys had to play somewhere else. I think it didn’t make a huge difference, because the connection looked questionable to me when you guys went to play somewhere else… which means that it might’ve been on GA’s end.
Regardless, the entire thing was handled somewhat poorly. I suppose for the next DojoSPORTS league, I’ll make sure I’m team manager or something so that I am 100% sure where we’re playing in advance. Too many lapses in communication.
GG’s sir and nice ibuki! We had lag on our end also, but the event was fun overall. I hope to see all of ya’ll at Final Round 14 in march!
We had a red bar conntion to you and a yellow bar to flash. I cut off all of the internet connections in my crib and i’m running cable so I don’t know where it was coming from. You can’t avoid lag online.
Thanks, and we’ll be there at Final Round! Gonna be my first time there also lol.
Cool i’ll see you there. Was that your account we played on? I would like to play that ibuki sometimes also.
Agreed. I think it could’ve come down to the team playing in the location they picked out. I was hoping they’d play at Peter’s but they decided to try somewhere else, and by the time they were there I don’t think they had much of a choice to play anywhere else. But whatever, the connection at FR is great for streaming but bad for gaming. Sling’s slipped up enough that if Comcast happens to become available at the arcade, I might just find something in the clause with Sling that lets us cancel them and just have them pick up their stuff and get out. Tired of their general incompetence, honestly. (We were down w/o a connection we could stream from for over 2 weeks and in the process managed to lose most of our dedicated viewer base. We were hitting 80+ viewers regularly (~150 peak) and now we struggle to maintain 50.)
As for my connection? I was using up all of my bandwidth at my friend’s house running a stream, so you would’ve always seen me as a red connection. That wouldn’t have had any bearing on the rest of things whatsoever.
Either way… good shit to GA, I hope you guys beat Team Empire. And I hope Larry sends them the same XBL message he sent me!
I hope if an event like this happens again it ends up being a little more professional. I don’t understand why the connections were never tested in the first place. That would seem like the obvious thing to do right? Or am I wrong? That, the dates/times getting mixed up, it was all kinda rushed together like the day before the event. Oh well.
Right?
Right?
RIGHT?!
^___________________^ i am about to snap someone give me like $20 for initial d so i can relax
lol, The people who should have tested the connection are the team members because they are the ones that are going to be playing on it. FR did pay for more bandwidth on Saturday.I don’t know if you guys went there to test for yourselves. But if you guys didn’t care or weren’t professional enough to check the connection a month, weeks, days, or even after I posted why bring it up now?
Also if the connection anywhere was that bad why not reschedule?
People have tested the connection before various times, it’s always been bad. They said that they were gonna get better internet. I don’t know if they fixed it or not, but honestly this whole event was ran with minimal interest.
Doesn’t matter though, it’s already done. Just take all this into consideration for next time, if their is a next time.
Bandwidth was not the problem with the connection. The connection was the problem with the connection.
It’s hard to explain why exactly the connection is bad without going into a really long talk about networking, so long story short: it has to do with the fact that our connection is a wireless satellite point-to-point connection (WiMAX 4G). The rates are unimportant, but they are T1 rates (1.5mbps up/down), which is good enough for any video game connection. A real, land line based T1 would’ve worked perfectly for this, but would also have been 1.5x times as expensive. You get what you pay for, and what we’re paying for is really a streaming connection.
They’ve really not been providing that either, so I’m going to find out whether Comcast services the area yet or not. If so, we have pretty good reasons to discontinue service with our provider (including a 2-3 week period of time where we had bad internet and they didn’t refund us). Comcast is ground based cable with something absurd like a 20 down, 6 up connection for a fraction of what we’re paying now… but last I checked, it’s unavailable at FR.
EDIT: Before someone comes in saying I KNOW MORE ABOUT INTERNET FOR GAMEZ THAN U LOL!!! ^___^, because it’s going to happen and I deal with it enough in person, understand that I’m in college for IT and I’ve already taken a significant amount of networking courses, never mind that I already knew a lot about networking before I even took any of those courses in the first place. Bandwidth does not always = good gameplay experience. If you have shitty bandwidth, yes, no amount of a solid connection will save you. But you can have good bandwidth – or even amazingly good bandwidth, 50mbps both ways – and if your connection drops packets, or your router is uncooperative, or the route between you and your opponent simply has a router that isn’t doing its job properly, you’re going to experience bullshit.
Cakes, im to lazy to look into these sling broadband guys so…Who the hell else in that area would be around to use the bandwidth they are already supplying anyways?
And one more thing
THey use WiMAX you say right? Where are they located. Because the 802.16 standard requires end users to be located close to their station. not saying this is the problem… but it could effect it a little bit?
EDIT - Doesn’t help much really but I found this http://www.ripoffreport.com/internet-service-providers/sling-broadband-llc/sling-broadband-llc-providing-9592d.htm
Pretty sure you seen this before though if you try and google reviews about them
EDIT 2 - If you go down, someone who “Works” there posted a response saying that they have never even had someone down for over 36 hours and that the consumer writing the report is lying (which is possible. Who knows?)
But weren’t we just without internet for over 2 weeks?
Its not a stupid internet ARGUMENT because obviously it was a big issue and played a big roll on the outcome of the matches, agreed? , Albert could not had said it any better
who tested the connection in the first place? was it flah? was it jc? was it Ryan hunter?
if it was billy bob thorton who tested the connection… who cares? because ultimately was I was trying to say was, like i said earlier, INTERNET connection is based on personal opinion and what ppl are used to, a good connection for you may be horrible for me, or vice versa,
I was trashing anyone or insulting anyone, its an opinion about an issue that was important for this event,
and like i said before Saying the internet is lagging is like calling a retarded kid for double dribbling in basketball … Wich is a GENERAL statement, nothing directed at anyone personally
I have to agree with Manny on this. I understand whatever happened has already happened, but it is up to the players to test the internet.
Albert posted a warning on his thoughts about the connection but no one went from what I saw to try it out after he said something.
Manny was just voicing his arguement and opinion and his arguement seems correct. Online play is a matter of opinion when it comes to the connection
No, there is such a thing as a connection that’s better than another. The connection we had was no good. It wasn’t just lag: hiccups, dropped packets and dropped frames. You might be used to playing on a bad connection and it therefore affects you less than it would affect another player.
That said, yes: it was on the team to individually test the connection and determine if it was right for everyone, and if not, to make arrangements in advance to either fix the connection or to simply play somewhere else.
When the next 5 on 5 happens, this will not be an issue.
Atrocity: We had internet for that time, it was just not what we needed.
