Metreon Tilt Thread (Formerly Official Portal One @ Metreon Thread)

Hows the setup like? They should just make it Arcade mode, with a coin slot as the Start button.

The only reason i even go here before when i was in the city was because of the CvS1 cab…that thing is awesome.

WOW! I think that I’m more surpised that they added this in since I saw for sale signs on most of their cabs. Are they stil closing down the arcade soon?

Either way, glad to hear there’s a set up right by my job. Will be there tonight after 5pm reppin the ‘Sim’ if anyone from the board happens to be there tonight.

i don’t know how it works. i was too busy playing tekken.

maybe Mike Mega will tell us

i seriously doubt metreon will be close down anytime soon.

I was there today around 1:45pm during lunch and after work round 5:30-630pm to check it out. The set-up is a bit akward, but does the job in case you work in the Downtown area and need a quick SF4 fix during lunch.

The cab is set up to where you can play for 2 min. per token. This means that if you want to beat the game, you’ll have to at least put in 4 tokens for a full run through. I’m not sure how people will work in the “buying time” aspect of it, since technically anyone can jump in at anytime without even paying as long as there is time on the set up, but im sure common courtesy will come to play when it comes down to it (winner stay/loser pay). When the clock strikes 0, the system will automatically reset itself to go to the XBL dashboard and reboot the game to the title screen. Make sure that if you put in tokens while the reset process is going to check the bottom coinslot as the cab will not work until the game is back up and running.

The cabinet has some sorta jimmy-rig thing going on with the buttons mapped out all wacky. Luckily, since its the console version, we can put it on pause to map the buttons out but based on the signs posted by management, it’s suggested to keep things the way they are. Also, there isn’t much elbow room to pull off combos without bumping into the 2nd player by accident.

Not sure if the sticks are sanwa, but they feel almost like the ones at SFSU. For some reason, the buttons at time felt as if they registered inputs late or not at all, but most of the time I was able to play a few good matches with no problems.

All in all, I gotta say this is a good alternative for anyone looking to get a quick SFIV fix while in downtown. Not exactly the type of cabs found at SVGL and the sticks are tough to get used to if you’re only accustom to playing at home on the TE fightstick (for me at least), but I think folks who get the hang of the set up will have a nice spot to have cool matches while in the area.

SF4 @ Metreon

I was there today as well around 6 (Pimp Sagat player  ) and I feel the same way for the most part. I wish the stick and buttons were Sanwa, also, I wish the button layout was advantageous to my fingers. Lastly, if you play on the 2p side, you could hit the start button if you are not careful.

Everyone plays on 2/3 rounds because that’s what 2:00 gives you. Once you beat someone, the timer keeps going, and you have the option to rematch or change characters. If you change characters, you have to pick them as fast as possible because the timer doesn’t stop.

Lastly the cabinet is impressive. HD screen, and the looks similar to the T6:BR machine. Its not bad, and Im sure I’ll be back to stack some more wins.

RapeFrame. :grrr:

Hey wusup dude,

I was the Dhalsim dude in the dress clothes playing against you for a while. Good game by the way and thanks for the Balrog combo tips.

Yeah, I have to agree too about the HD screen. The game looks pretty crisp and I like the fact that console characters can be selected too. The other weird thing I noticed about the cab is that they have 2 circular discs that act as the analog sticks and 2 USB ports coming out of the top of the control panel (like you suggested Frame, maybe possible to hook up the fightstick controllers?).

I’ll probably stop by next week to play again but glad to know there’s a spot near my job to practice offline.

this is good news. pictures would be great… maybe i’ll take some if i stop by this weekend.

metreon is teh suxzors, but i feel like it’s slowly coming back to life. t6br? wtf? sf4??? wtff? next thing you know hdr will be in a cab run by ps3.

i’m curious about this setup…
pics would be great

bad quality sorry

wtf

weak

The setup looks nice and all, but the stick and buttons are terrible… The way they’re laid out is like whaaaat. I also noticed that the cabinet is a bit flimsy, as you can easily move it around.

hmm…the sticks look a little tall but it looks ok from the pics…
thx for the pics 3rd strike

Thought I’d bring this thread back from the dead since there’s a bit more SF4 activity going on here these days.

Tonight I tested out the USB ports using the TE fightstick and can confirm that they definitely do work on this machine. Haven’t tested plugging the controller in and out of the slot in between matches so I’m not sure how the cabinet recognizes the controller after a timed game session has been started. Buttons have to be set to default as the pre-mapped button layout is set up based on the cabinet buttons.

Also forgot to mention that there was a bit of noticeable button lag using the TE on this machine as some of the commands that were inputted did not register instantly.

Still not used to the overall set-up of the built-in cabinet contols, but definitely happy to see that folks are rollin’ thru to play at this spot. Good games to everyone tonight!

I spoke to one of the workers at the Metreon Tilt recently and they mentioned that they would probably update the current SF4 machine to Super if enough folks send in an email to their corporate office. The update would require them to spend $400 on an update to the system to the machine. I’m assuming this goes towards new components that control the timer and macro set up so that it can work properly with the new disc.

To contact them, go to http://www.tilt.com/ and go to the “Contact” page. Be sure to let them know that the request is for the SF Metreon Tilt as this will help them with assessing the demand for the update. Heck, you can also throw in a request for them to get the real deal machine when its released later this year.

This spot is one of the few arcades left and the only centrally located one in the city, so I encourage you all to put in the word to get SSF4 active in the heart of downtown.

Lets Make It Happen!

I’ve notice lag too but i was using the cabinets stick, i thought it was jus that SFIV is slower than SSFIV but i guess not…good to know tho…next time i’m there i’ll bring my TE…ahahaha…:bgrin:

I just sent my email to tilt. Mayn after reading about Arcade Infinity’s “Last Game” made me scared of losing arcades as a whole. Come on guys our community needs to be stronger!

REQUEST SUPER STREET FIGHTER IV TO BE IN TILT! IT’S ONE OF THE ONLY PLACES WE HAVE LEFT!

dam tilt b dead lol

im goin dis thur 4 1 token gameply c me there @ 3 on everything exp kof lol

soooo dead there but im going 2marow

Since I see a couple familiar names from Rack n Cue I will do a little comparison so you can get a feel for what you can expect from Tilt’s SSF4 Cab. Also want to recommend that everyone who goes to Tilt to play SF 3rd strike, MvC2, CvS, Blazeblue, or Tekken 6 come to SFSU at Rack n Cue (get’s busy for SF4 @ 10:00-1:30, all other games stays busy throughout the day)…there is GOOD competition there, the games are cheaper, and the button/joysticks are better.

First time coming here and I left with a okay/good feeling. When I saw the cabinet I was not disappointed…only because I saw the exact same cabinet up at the 707 Tilt (took a drive up north to play some SF4). The buttons are smaller, and thicker (meaning you have to press down further for an input to come out). The joystick is a little more rigid than the Sanwa…but not too much. You can easily shake the entire cabinet because of the legs on the cabinet (not super sturdy). The screen is of good quality. If you have 4 or 5 people there it is great…you can get use to the set up within 3 games. But for the most part…SFSU Rack n Cue is where it’s at. Don’t mind coming here every so often…but for the better competition and all around experience Rack n Cue does it for me.

Sup everyone. If you want to get raped, come to the Metreon to play the King.
