Yeaaah, i never talked about bands being only on one side or another, i talked about the genres as a whole, of course that a band can bounce between different genres and even combine different conventions on their songs.
I even mentions those cases on my posts on how you can find mixtures that sound metal and metalcore during the lenght of the songs.
Again, i only made the distinction because he said “this kind of metal” when that song is totally metalcore (especifically DJent), like it or not, making the distinction helps him to find more similar stuff if he wants to, now he knows what to search.
I swear, the metalcore fans tend to be the more insecure when someone talks about their genre, like if by making the distinction between metal and metalcore disquilifies it.
And finally, you all should be already expect that i will be that guy here on the thread (though i wouldn’t be that pedantic to go and say something is symphonic epic hollywood metal), and no, i don’t do it to disqualify, i do it to help others find more stuff similar to what they post
I think I stopped caring what sub genres of Metal these bands classify into when I started realizing how many there are actually are.
I realize bands like Periphery, AAL, Whitechapel, Emmure, Oceano, ect. All vary by genre, but I’ve always considered them to fall under the main genre of “Metal”.
Deathcore, Melodic Metal, Progressive Metal, all of those sub genres fall under “Metal” imo.
I am gonna have to check that Demolition Hammer. Morbid Saint is awesome. I remembered I emailed one of the members a few years ago to ask him about a remastered version of Spectrum of Death, he replied saying it was funny because he and his friends haven’t authorized a remastered version.
This band is one of the new additions to my collection and i have to say that i love them so far, the blend of Death Metal with the Prgressive elements and some Jazz here and there make the experience of listening the album something very enjoyable.
Fun Fact, all the Soundscape bands that i know about are mainly Progressive Metal :looney:
Now, this other band is quite intersting, they have a sound that i would describe as very similar to Symphony X, in that they are on the middle way between Symphonic and Progressive.
I think that those who are fan of Symphony X would like them aswell.
It has been a while since i heard some power metal that i actually liked. It seems that Stargate has everything that i liked from the genre and nothing of what make me go meh every time that i heard something power metal related.
On the topic of power metal, I’m not much of a fan in general, but I just popped in the original Demons & Wizards album for the first time in a long time, still really good to my ears. Never picked up the second, heard it was ass.
I like Primal Fear and Manowar when it comes to power metal, Sabaton is pretty cool too. But yeah Power Metal can be an acquired taste for some, probably one of the sub genres I don’t dig too deep into.
I just picked up Pentagram’s Relentless a few hours ago. I’ve been having a taste for old school Doom Metal as of late, probably gonna pick up some Witchfinder General and Saint Vitus one of these days and Trouble’s Pslam 9… too good.
The thing with power metal i think, is that when is done right it can be very fun to listen but like death metal and gothic metal is one of those genres where is too easy to find too much bands that are plagued with that generic sound that it bores quickly, at least for me.
There are certainly a lot of good bands, but for 1 of those bands you have to deal with a lot that at best are just regular
