Once i found out how to dodge The End fight I never looked back.
It’s been awhile since I’ve played, but I don’t think I ever did the hardest difficulty. I’m positive that I did second to hardest, though. I went for no-kill on a few (admittedly, it does make it harder).
I kick that dudes ass now. The first time I played it though I shit myself. They way they just dropped you into the quiet woods and you just see a health bar at the top was masterful.

Even still, The End is one of the best designed, yet simple, boss fights in the entirety of MGS. Really awesome fight.

the first time I fought the end I used the svd and had a sniper war with him. it took me like a day, I was so pissed

MGS1 boss fights are the best. Even the elevator fights are great :

I think MGS1 is the best in terms of design, atmosphere, voiceacting and pacing, the gameplay may not be perfect but it fits great with the game.
