The camera gets a bit unwieldly sometimes. I miss out on a few S ranks here or there because of it. Game would’ve benefited from some sort of hard lock-on (or whatever feature that would make the camera less gay).

It does have a Hard Lock on. It’s R2. You can even use the right analogue stick to cycle through enemies once you’ve locked onto someone. Great way to get an easy lock on flying enemies for a dive kick>Zandatsu.
It’s definitely not perfect, and it’s not “sticky” enough. It’s noticeable in some fights like the elevator fight with the mastiffs that drop down and there are birds flying around. I locked onto a bird and tried to throw a sai but it kept going onto grounded enemies like the hammer guy (I was still locked onto the bird. I also tested this in different attempts and the same thing can happen). The lock on is just there to keep the camera facing the direction but I noticed it doesn’t seem to influence your attacks as good as it should. It also doesn’t keep the enemy on your screen well enough and has a lot of problems in tight areas or just around in general (I’m surprised it doesn’t work like some games where it can clip throw foreground objects and render them invisible so it can be easy for the player to see). It tries to pan around to keep enemies on screen and sometimes things could happen like Monsoon jumps past the camera and crosses it up while doing the dive attack but the camera doesn’t pan around fast enough and messes with your parrying direction.
Throwing my hat into the ring of deep throating this game

Ugh I have a friend on facebook who is ass at video games(the type that screams THIS IS BULLSHIT rather than learn to play) going off on how ass this game is. Despite the fact it is easily one of the best action games I’ve played since Bayonetta. I regret starting on normal, since I’ve only died once and that was being stupid. At the risk of sounding elitest(ho ho my name) I feel like this is the type of game that separate gamers and people who have been capsulized over the years of video game hand holding. Basically everything Platinum did in this game(save the camera which I admit can get so wonky in the middle of +6 enemies) is catered to EXACTLY what I wanted in a game. It rewards, patience, it rewards creativity, it makes you work for your prize, the bosses, the boss design accompanied by the soundtrack(timing the vocals PERFECTLY),ZERO padding, no busy work or bullshit to grind through, anything extra like the VR missions and the codec conversations which are rich add hours to the gameplay, sure the game might only be 7 hours long but those 7 hours are re playable as fuck it doesn’t register with me how he likes DmC but thinks this game is ass.

I’ll probably punch him in the face next time I see him though.

Simple: DmC makes you think you are hot shit, even if you are really ass at action games.

Exactly, the game provides a challenge. Normal mode is normal mode, not the new “normal mode”. Actually having gaps in the game because you struggled to beat a boss is getting so hype now when before it was the norm. It’s kinda like why Dark/Demon Souls and this game are getting so much love is cause they take us back to our roots on challenge and letting us think. It honestly is pretty upsetting to see so many reviewers go “there is no dodge button” or “You can mash buttons and win most fights” and make these statements while bitching about the game being “too short”. Professional reviewers cruising through easy mode, and not reading tool tips on the side of the fucking screen. I’m honestly concerned about game design now, DmC is just a huge glaring example of developers trying to chase a base which does not exist, but once you notice it with a ton of other games like Prince of Persia(which went from flawless platformer to fucking Godsmack music to being unable to actually get a game over) it’s kinda disappointing.

That’s why I got no problems being a Platinum fanboy, they’re one of the few voices keeping it real for gamers
I was surprised that you can actually stealth roughly 50% of the game, maybe even more. It’s funny seeing Raiden stealth kill giant water striders in the sewers lol. I also found it much easier to collect left hands this way plus you fight much less enemies. That can be either a good thing or bad thing depending on your playstyle. I don’t really know how much more reward you can get from that. I mean you even get congrats from either Kevin or Courtney when you completely stealth an area. There are even times when Boris will tell you to attack certain groups or run past them but you still have the option to stealth. There are ranks at the end and I’m betting there is some sort of full stealth rank. I just wished there was some sort of menu to keep track of the ranks unless I’m missing something?

Totally agree with the camera but honestly I can manage it much more than NG. /:)

Life was rough in the sewers, he needs some stimulation. Also am I the
only one disturbed by the guard reading those mags then Sunny gets
introduced? Those two should never meet again…

I can imagine a stealth game where Sunny has to sneak past that guard regardless of it being her workplace. DLC perhaps?
My complaints are the camera angle as if it cannot decided whether to aid you or troll you. That and the uninvited guest known as the off screen rocket launcher.

Yeah, the lock on isn’t that good in Rising. It’s very loose. I’ve been screwed out of stealth kills because the camera would reset the front of Raiden and I can’t see the enemy. Sometimes even doing a zandatsu screws up the camera angle. Get hit hard enough and you fly across the screen and get screwed. I’m always holding down Ninja Run upon executing a zandatsu because of the damn camera.
As someone who didn’t like MGR until he got a handle on the combat system and saying “dead on!” a lot, I can say that any gamer who isn’t lazy should enjoy Rising.

I’d say this game is a lot like god hand. An action game with very unorthodox controls and takes a lot of time to get used to. On top of that, whichever level it is, I feel like this game should be played on a difficulty that will kick your shit in. A lot of gamers might not be willing to commit themselves to it, kinda like why a lot of gamers aren’t into competitive fighters.
