The new DmC game surely isn’t proving him wrong. The only action game the west has to claim is GoW, and even then it plays nothing like what Platinum put together.
The controlled cutting was the main highlight of the game’s concept, so I don’t think they’d remove it. If anything it could be tied to a gauge that fills up as you kill enemies?
I figure the sweeping and wildly inaccurate assertion about American game developers (and not his first, if I remember right) just about does it.
Before you reply to this, think long and hard. Because developers the world over have made a wide variety of games in a wide variety of settings.
Really? 'Cuz I look at it and think the chainsaw kill is a command grab. You’re invincible as it animates, it has an over the top animation, etc. Other than the blood, what’s *really * the difference between it and an SPD?
I suppose Epic could have cut the blood and put MvC Strider-esque bladed hit sparks on the blade and we just assume the enemy dies, in order to… grab a T rating? Would that have really changed the encounter design (which is actually fairly solid in the Gears series), the narrative (which is full of great lines but bleh backstory), and the game in general?
If violence for violence’s sake is silly and wrong (it isn’t always, and Gears dabbles in several aspects of it, but I digress), then non-violence to adhere to some moral whatever must be as silly/wrong, if not moreso. When deciding a game’s thematics, setting, etc., deciding on something violent and gory isn’t inherently just worse than the alternative. Japan does it too, lest we forget.
Unless you mean just the Lancer weapon in general, in which case, well, Snake’s used much more bizarre, and that doesn’t make Metal Gear bad per se. Metal Gear being a monstrously overrated series makes it bad, but I’d be here rambling for hours, so I’ll stop here.
No, what he’s saying is he needs someone who can channel the grace and precision of a katana, not someone who will take that katana, set it on fire, attach a gun to it, and chop buildings in half while firing nukes out of it at giant monsters with rocket launchers in their nether regions.
That said, it’d be totally awesome to have a flaming katana with a gun on it that could chop buildings in half and fire nukes out of it at giant monsters with rocket launchers in their nether regions.
America, fuck yeah.
As far as stupid goes, nothing, and I mean nothing beats Date Masamune from Devil Kings/Sengoku Basara. Not only is wielding six swords incredibly ridiculous, it’s also impractical as hell, even by zany anime standards.
As for this game, I’ll be on board for the gameplay. What I’m hoping for is NGB but with Raiden. I think Ninja Gaiden Black was the pinicle of Hack n’ Slashery. In my opinion. As for story, I dunno lol. I still find myself laughing at the guitar riffs in tune with the action from the trailer. When I saw the “REVENGE WITH A VENGEANCE” I burst out in laughter.
Made up/ slightly changed words, ninjas, guitar solo’s… it’s like something out of the 90’s.
Awesome.
I guess you haven’t seen any MGS trailers before lol
I have lol. Guess I don’t remember made up words and kicking guitar solos. Than again my first was MGS3 (then 2 than 4)
Also not saying it’s bad, btw. Just funny/ somewhat nostalgic. “WATCH METAL GEAR RISING ON KIDS WB… IT’S REVENGE…WITH A VENGEANCE”
Kojima’s always doing crazy word shit in his trailers. There was the one where they where turning the MGS into a a different acronym all through the trailer an shit. Crazy epic music. Motorcycles doing backflips an shit. MGS3 trailer had a fuckin GTA reference in it.
ya I’ve always loved his trailers. The engrish and humor really helps livin things up (especially when the rest of the trailer is snake putting a gun in his mouth).
I think his quote was more so, he doesn’t feel an American game developer would’ve gotten the same results of his vision like Platinum games has done.
Someone already mentioned that the new DmC isn’t proving him wrong.
what is his assertion? i watched the video and i think i might have missed it if you were referring to the vid. even outside the vid i havent heard his opinion on the matter.
im outi

Who are you and what have you done with Specs? The last thing Specs would have done is bothered writing a couple of paragraph to somehow explain to somebody why their first reaction to something was wrong. Really dude, really? Just because I can see why he felt that way and offered an example of something that made me feel that way to does not mean that I agree with him at an intellectual level or that if one were to do a survey on games, that his point of view would be supported by evidence.
:arazz:
Yeah, my bad. I was replying to BullDancer’s wildly inaccurate line about what was said. Kojima didn’t say what I think he said. I’ll also pin some of the blame on Zopliclone. Wonderful Zopiclone.
As mentioned, I erroneously thought he said something he didn’t.
That said, DmC’s existence doesn’t speak for all American devs. It speaks for one dev in particular, and nothing more.
Seriously? You said something, I replied to it. And I wasn’t rude, or condescending, or anything. So what’s the problem?
Speaks for one UK dev. Sorry Specs not tryin to bust your balls, just gotta clear that up. Ninja Theory is NOT an American studio. We’re better then that.
No ball busting was assumed.
trailer was sick

 nigga please…
Edit: I just can’t stop laughing.
War games and street sandbox games ftw…
A couple of dance and music games…
I mean I can give props to the Uncharted Series, and the Batman Games…
But not a whole lot of American games have piqued my interest this generation…
I just thought it was a funny thing to say in regards to a Kojima Productions game…Kojimas Team more or less, has only made MGS stealth games since 1998. I mean there’s ZOE and that’s about it…Oh Boktai…which had stealth in it…yea.
And considering MGS is a series of shooting war games…:\
