Melty Blood ReACT: Final Tuned Open Discussion

Yes… yes it does.

For those of you who use pads to play MB, what pad to you prefer? ps2?

I’m running Win2000, so I can’t use AppLocale. Any other ideas?

For me that’s what I use. The Saturn pad is probably way better but I’m don’t know if there’s a converter out there for it. Still though, I’d rather use a stick for this game though there really isn’t no demand for it in this game (virtually no difficult motion inputs).

If you wanted to use a Saturn pad and you already had a ps2 to USB converter, you could just get one of the ps2 Saturn pads and use that. Regardless, I think that I’m going to still have to consider getting a converter and playing on a pad just because one of the directional inputs on the keyboard still give me problems. Here I was never thinking that I would have trouble with half circles in a fighting game.

Funny, I find it easier to do in MBR than in any other fighter on a keyboard…Just me I guess.

They made a PS2 Saturn pad? It’s about time, or I’m still living in the cave.

The ps2 Saturn pads have actually been out for awhile now. The first I saw them was last last spring when I was looking around for fighting game pads. I believe they released a Vampire Savior edition one, too.

Edit:

Here is the regular one and here is the Vampire Savior one. I don’t really know if it’s worth an extra $5 when the only difference seems to be that the one is purple…

Melty Blood’s inputs do seem more forgiving when I play it on a keyboard since it’s at least possible. #R on the keyboard, though… that’s just not going to happen.

VS huh, I wonder why because the majority of people probably don’t know VS. Nifty I guess…

A lot of people in Japan probably do, though. As far as I know, I don’t think the ps2 Saturn pads ever got a U.S. release.

The Saturn pad (ss or ps2) is way better than the ps imho, as for the difference between the VS and standard for ps2, I prefer the VS because the pad has a slightly different feel which allows me to be a little faster (like the EU SS pad versus any JP SS pad).

Btw, has anybody found it a bit tricky not to use any hotkey for heat on AC mode (any controller)? I ask because from time to time, only 2 keys seem to be registered when I try and hit the 3 at once

Just wondering, does anyone know of a PS2 or XBOX / X360 port for MBAC in the near future?

There were some comments from the developers about considering a PS2 port but no actual plans yet.

  • I use keyboard.

I am psyched. I got a PSX -> USB converter in the mail today from ebay. Now I can play MBR in AC mode! Yay!

I play stick on MBR all the time. And when I am runing it at cons I use sticks for it as well.

As it’s japanese popularity grows the chances of it coming to ps2 (at least import) are better and better.

Imo the fact that it made sbo = shoe-in for a console port, just have to wait.

Re: MBAC for PS2

Yay!

What is the best ps2 to USB converter out there? Does anyone have recommendations? I figure converters aren’t too expensive and it would be worthwhile to get one just to try playing the game without the keyboard. So if anyone can hook me up with a URL for a good converter, I would really appreciate it.

Most of what you can buy these days are all the same. They will all work fine with first party PCBs and then hit or miss with anything else.

The best converters I know of are all old ones. The LPT port ones worked with anything. The old Radio Shack ones (solid black) worked with anything. I think some of the old EMS 2-port converters worked with anything.

Your best bet is to just make sure whatever stick you use has a good PCB in it. If you just use a gamepad, you are probably fine.

Lag with converters boils down to one of the following issues: The game, the computer, the converter, or the controller. If you get a good converter with a 1st party controller and it still lags, your computer might have issues.

As far as recommending what you should buy, the Radio Shack converters they sell now are cheap and work okay, and you can pick them up at the mall. If you really want something universal, you can go looking for them on eBay or whatever else. Make sure you search for PSX USB, PS2 will get you a lot of unwanted results.

I just use a standard Dualshock 2, no stick for me. I was looking through the converter list shown at LikSang and Play-Asia, and I wasn’t sure if there was anything in particular that was really good or if most of the converters worked fine. I didn’t even know Radio Shack carried anything like this. It’s been awhile since I was in there.

If youre just gonna use a ps2 pad get the radio shack converter. 15 bucks and no hassle.

A lot of all the different varieties of converters you see for sale on import sites are all identical internally to one another. There’s really very few internal designs left these days.

I can’t be too worried anymore these days because my stick is DS2 compatible, but it does suck if you’ve got a weird PCB. A lot of old Hori sticks have this problem.
