Meikyousisui Discussion Thread

I was kinda suprised that this thread doesn’t exist.

IMO, beyond the purely creative and investigative drive behind Joo’s vids, and despite the use of a programmable pad to do these combos, there’s an incredible amount of information that Mahvel Adepts can take away from this series and apply to their game. Just judging from the wealth of data and frame #'s he’s got on his site it’s obvious he’s got this game figured out from a technical standpoint more than anyone on the planet, so lets take advantage of this technical guru.

Probably 90% of what’s in the videos is completely impractical, so this thread can be for taking a look into that 5% or so that might be useful in leveling-up some of the bummy/forgotten characters.

Personally, I’m wondering what kind of extended combos and infinites are possible using assists like Zangief’s Air Throw (whiffed) and other assists that ‘block’ the dummy (aka enemy sprite).

I also wanna know wtf is up with Capt. America’s instant overhead is about at the beginning of

I know people have all kinds of questions like these, so lets speculate a little.

what is up with that instant overhead from cap?:wtf:

2 hit stationary overhead, and the momentum sucks them in rather than push them out?

I wonder if joo came back to the combo video stuff, would he blow marvel wide open still?

Good question, I guess we’ll find out when he drops his next vid, it’s gonna be EPIC judging from the preview that came out a little while ago. Its funny though, with each video he alienates his audience a little more because they get more and more technical. Not his fault at all, but probably Magnetro is the only one who really speaks his language in terms of Prog-Pad use. Fun to watch though and pick at the scraps for new tricks.

Could somebody explain the use of the whiffed assist? I thought it was just for show, to show that they could hit the assist button while doing combos lol.

the assist, mainly whiffed zangief aa, lands behind them and creates a “wall” reducing the pushback you would normally see during combos, effectively pushing you and your opponent as close together as possible

Ya, I know what it does, now I’m wondering what I can do with it, from a practical standpoint. It could setup proper juggle heights for new re-jump infinites or give some bums more damaging combos and setups midscreen.

I already know it helps Spd-Up Wolverine teleport for sneak attacks. Do a ground series + call Gief Air, ending with a HP Claw Slide so that Gief pins then, then recover while they’re grounded with a whiff dashing cr.HK that warps right through them. Quantum leap style, something fishy going on there.

There’s also a Meik combo with Guile using Gief Air to link way too many FP’s and Sonic Booms.

It’s not limited to Gief AA either, since all assists influence the dummy. My idea is that you could have double option scenarios involving things like AA assists-- for example a counter hit scenario where if they block it, you immediately go into an option that makes use of a mixup into a combo that takes advantage of the assist Sprite Pin as the assist comes down behind them. So in this scenario, Wolvie/Ken AA calls a Dragon Punch assist that whiffs or is blocked, then you warp through them and combo.

so I went back and watch all the meikyu series today and saw a lot of that gief AA setup. iirc, the most practical use of that assist to go behind the opponent was the one with sentinel

s.lk+gief aa, s.mp, fly, unfly, falling j.lk, j.mk

This setup triggers the false unfly glitch so you can do this all day in the corner. Gief\sent is a pretty good gief team but I like gief with the lariat assist while in mech mode. Being able to dhc from mech mode into other supers when he has that lariat means no invincible assists are going to fuck with him.

There’s a lot of shit in those videos. I think i’m going to work on some of these limit break setups. cause they’re fucking kill cats off free combo’s.

if you go back and watch these video, the chun infinite was probably discovered back then. The chun infinites that go air to ground and just modified combo video material to make it practical, which is the point of stealing some of joo’s stuff.
