We don’t have enough money.
Honestly, it’s pretty easy as, in general, torrenting, as Newsgroups/Usenet breaks down into 3 parts:
Hosting Service (i.e. Giganews, Astraweb)
Usenet Client (i.e. GrabIt, SABnzbd)
Website to download .NZB files (i.e. NZBmatrix, NZBsrUS)
Broken down a bit, .NZB files are like Torrent files, pointing your client where to grab files from within Newsgroups. Hosting Services, like Giganews, essentially grants you the ability to download in the first place, and that’s the paying part of Newsgroups. Usenet Client sounds exactly like what it implies.
My personal preference for all three parts:
AstraWeb as my hosting service ($11/month)
NZBMatrix as my website to download NZBs (Premium member, one-time $5 fee I believe)
SABnzbd as my client (SMALL footprint, Web-only UI/client viewable only through FF/IE/Chrome)
Pros about Newsgroups is you NEVER, EVER have to worry about seeders/leechers or trying to up your ratio on private trackers. Another pro is, depending on the hosting service, you’re almost guaranteed to max out your connection (I’m currently on a 26/3 connection, or a download rate of ~3.2mb/s. The ONLY con is the monthly price, which is well worth it, IMHO.
I’m not buying any of that shit. If you are on a major music label like UMG, you are a slave to them. You can’t do anything without their permission, meaning getting more $ through another channel is a Zero. Right before Megaupload got shutdown, UMG sent a cease and desist to get the videos of their artist promoting the site taking off. I didn’t know they were label slaves like that. I thought as long as it wasn’t a released song, you were good to go.
Itunes reaches everybody now as it is, and it is easy enough to put your music on there. Now if you wanted to make your own music, and not clear any samples and just put it out to get paid, then Megabox would be a good way to get paid illegally.
Megabox is/was a smokescreen.

Misleading picture. Kim hasn’t even been sentenced yet. I do want to see him take on Mr Wizard in a McRib eating contest though.
And lots of various usenet/magnet links/torrents will go down for a bit while everybody panics. So you have to go back a bit to when the net was still young, and shit was hard to find. It got to be where you can still pretty much find what you need with google. It used to be fucking HARD to find fucking emulator sites back in the day, let alone fully streamed TV episodes or movies.
Give it time, and people will yet again realize they can make $100 million for virtually free, with just that slight risk that the US will come after you, guns blazing. Get in, get out quick, make a quick buck. And the rest of the world isn’t the US, so they won’t give a shit for long.
What is stopping anyone else from trying the proposed MegaBox model?
I think that shit is too good for the artists to forget about it and not be pushing for that to be made.
Well, we don’t know what would have happened with Megabox. It’s one of those things that looked too good to be true. Something was bound to fuck it up. From record label lawsuits, to perhaps the artists being entitled to way more money than K.Dotcom anticipated. Hell, maybe it would have just fizzled out. A record label may screw artists out of a lot, but they also provide a lot for the artist to make music. Without those resources, artists would have to fully produce their own albums.
Contracts are what is stopping it.
When you sign a major label deal, you are their slave. You can’t do much without their permission. Independent artists don’t have to worry about that, but also they have other ways to get their music out.
I will give you an example.
Schoolboy Q’s new album came out last week.
1.You can buy a physical copy off his independent label.
2.You can buy it off of itunes & amazon.
3.Why the fuck would anybody go to Megabox to do this? Most people 99% of the population do not even know what Megaupload is. The number is reversed for Amazon & itunes.
Megabox is basically saying we will sale your music at our price, not the price you set.
That doesn’t sound like a good business model, if I’m an artist.
LOL. Perfect for porn videos. soft.ass

I hope SOPA passes.
http://maddox.xmission.com/
I’ve been thinking about that list for a few days now. The list is maintained by Wikipedia and updated daily. This is what the information age can accomplish.
I may switch internet service providers from Comcast to another company. This will also mean I stop watching Comcast sports net and many sporting events, including Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League (which does not support SOPA, but is a casualty because the local team is on Comcast sports net tv channel), NBC, CBS, ESPN, and ABC. (FOX doesn’t support SOPA) This means I won’t be watching the Super Bowl since it is on NBC and also because the NFL supports SOPA.**
I will stop buying music unless I am 100% sure they do not support SOPA/PIPA and it’s digital download only.
I will not watch a movie until it is available streaming or for purchase through digital download, eg iTunes, Netflix, and other companies who do not support SOPA and other bills like it. Perhaps this is still not enough, or perhaps I’m a hypocrite for buying movies this way, produced by companies and unions who support SOPA.
I will update when I figure out the new ISP I will be using.
apparently prison
lol there are only two good filehosting websites for us folks in the U.S now…
It’s either rapidshare or mediafire, no in-between…
A whole bunch of filehosting websites are denying people in the U.S access… I mean I could use a proxy but that seems like way too much trouble…
Hotfile, Fileserve, and Nakido all still working for me.
Confirmed: Fileserve is back up for US users.
just not their affiliate programs.
HF has a new program.
wondering is there any sites still doing those type of programs.
