Measurements of the Screws on top of a TE?

So I just recently bought a used TE for $60 on CL and it was pretty beat up. It was missing screws on top panel and on the bottom of the stick, and the screws were of all sorts. So what I want to do is have all 6 screws of the same type on the top of the TE, but I can’t find any screws laying around my house that fit into the top holes.

So if anyone has the specific measurements of the screws or know where to buy them your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You need metric M4 x 12mm screws.

Here are some nice replacements.

You also might be able to go to the hardware store.

RT Thank you so much even though I didn’t ask. I want to buy some extra screws just in case.

thanks dude I really appreciate it

M4, whatever head you want.

ya, at home depot i bought some that look like this but shorter for like 15 cents each.

Sorry if silly question, just wanted to be sure. Do these still use the #3 hex key like the TE’s stock screws?

no. They use a smaller one. At least the red ones do.

know where I can find those fasteners in green, I’m trying to complete my green mvc xbox TE stick.

I use these. Definitely the best deal I found. 100 count for $4 so
if anything happens to any of them you have more than enough
replacements for them. Great quality as well, never had any of
them strip. Putting them in and taking them out are extremely
fast as well, much faster then the regular hex nuts.

People are forgetting one important measurement on the TE cap socket/button head screws… The size of the metric Allen wrench/Hex key that goes into those screws.

The Mad Catz button heads are sized for Size 3 Metric Allen wrench. Hori HRAP SA and SE’s have always been Size 4 Metric Allen wrench… At least on the HRAP (Astrocade-style) bases. (HRAP V3’s were never meant to be opened from the top…)

(I think at least half the people who wreck these top plate screws are wrecking them because they are using the wrong tools to try and remove them. Honestly, it didn’t cost me over $7 for a multi-key Metric Allen wrench handle and I’ve never stripped a buttonhead screw using the right Allen key. I use the same tool — with the flip-up Allen keys – to remove faceplates for Agetec, Hori, and Mad Catz joystick cases.)

The problem is that in the US it is next-to-impossible to find button head screws that are anything but Size 2.5 Metric Allen wrench. Don’t know why but I’ve never been in any hardware store that carries M4 diameter cap socket/button heads that are sized for anything but Size 2.5 Allen wrench. Most hardware websites don’t even tell you which size Allen key fits into the button heads before you order them!

You really have to look at overseas hardware vendors or ask Mad Catz and Hori reps if they have spares or can point you to suppliers for the cap sockets. Ace/Tru Value, Lowes, and Home Depot just do not carry cap socket/button heads that fit Size 3 or 4 (Metric) Allen wrenches. All the button head screws I’ve ever found online in the US or in-stores have been the 2.5 size. The good news is that they still work fine for Hori and Mad Catz faceplates!

does anyone know if the mm size matters?? I know to get M4 .7 x 12mm, but would M4 .7 x 10mm work as well??
Please let me know and I really appreciate the help

M4.7 is the thickness of the bolt and the thread pitch. You can’t fudge that. What you can fudge on is the length. You can go slightly shorter or longer but not by much. 12 mm is 1.2 cm, not very long at all. You can get away with 10 mm to 14 or 16 mm length. Any longer bolts and you need Washers/ Spacers to accommodate for the bolts. I measured my stock TE bolts they come to 12 mm.

Actually, I thinking I should order a number of the right size bolts in Bulk.
I will offer them in the trading post once I get the bolts in

thanks for answering my question I found some blue 10mm screws that I want to use but just had to make sure haha

Spray paint the screws with those special metal green paints. I wonder if Vinyl dyes work on metal.

I wouldn’t suggest it, as the metal doesn’t soak up the dye like plastic. If you were to dye
it I would suggest a clear coat after. But your best bet for paint on metal is powder coating.

Funny is When I ordered bolts today, the most expensive bolts were the Black Oxied bolts.
Zinc plated and Anodized was cheaper.

Funny thing is they do not sell their bolts in bulk. They are sold each, with no grantee they would be in stock. They are sold zinc only for anywhere from 58 cents to $1.45 each bolt.
This is depending on store, location and variation on that bolt.

I’m using metal rosettes (see picture, don’t know the exact name in english) and countersunk screws. The outcome is perfect! Depending on the material (I’ve bought V2A stainless steel), you could easily pay twice as much as the other solutions in this thread, for less screws. But since you just need 6, it doesn’t matter I think.

Metal rosette (hope that’s the name; should be easy to find):

Countersunk screws - M4 16mm should be perfect. Just search for “DIN 7991”:

And finally here the result:

Actually once I get my supply in, I can offer a set of 6 bolts for $1 to $4 dollars, depending on the finish on the bolt and the screw head.
All which is cheaper than retail.

Think they are just called washers. Countersunk washers. I’ve seen them before on one of art’s plexi cases. I thought they just looked so cool because of the case. But nope, they just look cool in any case. Good stuff man. Now I wants!!
