FPS’es are dull to watch because all new FPS games are tacticool shooters, rehashing the same “realistic” urban theme over and over with boring slowpaced movement, in the same respect as realistic fighting games like VF and DoA are boring to watch…
deathmatch FPS games is what’s all about, Quake mainly.
Quake, Starcraft & Street Fighter should be the de facto games for pro-gaming. all other games should be just extras…
SFIV isn’t popular with the CGS crowd because they don’t want to put in the time to actually get good in it. Now i’m not knockin on the fact that they aren’t skilled players but it just seems like a copout to see people dismiss SFIV like it isn’t good enough.
When you look at this from a neutral stand point you start to notice how fear plays a large part between either evolution or stagnation of a community. As a advocate for the purity of gaming communities powered by gamers I understand all to well what you are guys are concerned about. However I must say that caution should not be replace by fear.
There is nothing wrong with being cautious with what may happen negative towards your community. That cautious behavior is key to making sure that the community thrives towards a different era in a positive light. As long as the administrators of your community do not abandon the obligated work that they service you with, you have nothing to worry about. From what I know about the SRK staff in my personal experience although in the past we have not seen eye to eye, they are in your best interest.
A prosperous and thriving time for fighting games is here. Try not to worry as much.
i feel a perfect spectator sport would be something like MVC2 or GG and the like
im not saying other games suck but come on… spectators wouldn’t see the jist of CvS2 or ST or 3s( im talking like… know steet fighter but… not play as seriously as us)
maybe prolly cuse it’s been out for awhile… but im still hyped up to see MVC2 vids… so you think that maybe the would check that out…
but then again… i don’t want some corrupt politics fucking up the players
LIKE MLG did to tekken and SC2 players… that was fucking whack…way to be like a year late for paying the players… fuck that…
those are some of the most confusing games ever… seeing a barrage of shit on the screen and characters flying in and out won’t make any sense for casual viewers.
that’s why they used DoA in the first place: 2 big characters exchanging punches and kicks… simple to grasp, but very boring.
not really… that’s how i feel about marvel being a spectator… granted the crowd might not know that shit… but it’s pretty fast and it’s pretty crazy to when a charcter gets reseted and/or snapback… crowds react hardcore when they see that… shit i didn’t even know what those meant till i started playing it… i was just very exciting stuff to watch! even the casual gamers… and spectators at the arcade get real into it too… esp. if it’s two really good players.
if DOA is such entertainment… then why not Tekken… easily better than DOA imho… shit even SC4 is better than DOA… Vitrua fighter? i mean there are better options of 3d fighters… im sure the crowd would adapt fast to any of those games
had it not been for DOA hitting the U.S. Online market first… then i would think any of the games mention above would easily be better choices…
Like I said, I can’t hate on people going after money, but when I look at these goofy leagues with franchise teams, I don’t envy them. For the vast majority of SF players, the game will have a negligible return on investment. I see promoters and business men gaining much more from injecting a bunch of money into SF than players.
True. All good points.
All I can hope for is that people consider that. I just get the impression from many people that they are more interested in seeing SF on ESPN2 than having more competition. I feel repetitive because I’ve said this before in a similar thread, but when competitive SF becomes spectator driven, I’m moving on. I’ve heard Evo staff post about keeping things about the players though, and they’ve done an excellent job, so I’m optimistic
To me, getting our top players to the highest level imaginable is not the most important thing. I think the introduction of professional athletes hurt the Olympics a lot, and I really don’t give a shit about it because of that. I think professional gaming could do just as much damage to the scene as preventing it. Call me a SF socialist, but to me, the community is more important than top players, or the game itself.
In order to enjoy watching Marvel or GG, you’d have to really know what’s going on. Most of the people on this forum don’t play VF. Now sit them in a ballroom with top 8 VF playing on a screen and tell me they wouldn’t fall asleep? It’s just like any sport. You don’t watch baseball or any other sport without know what’s going on. You either follow it or you lose interest and go for something else.
DOA is boring for US to watch because we have some sort of knowledge of the game at their level. Punches and kicks with the occasional 20 frame counter stuck out there. Not that hard to follow the game.
Now try explaining Tekken to a casual viewer. Their minds would be blown away.
I do agree the fact that Guilty Gear is confusing for people who do not understand it yet. I do believe that its possible for it to make CGS or any pro tournament. Just not now. Also, its hella hype tho like Marvel. We’d probably need good commentators cuz Im afraid the provided would sucks.
Hey I just saw a video on MTV on Empire Arcadia, had some shit before T7. Is anything else happening with that, Triforce? Thanks for the PM btw, MTV should have mentioned that you have all those stores!
