C3 is dying with the quickness, y’all.
March: 23 teams (69 people)
April: 40-50 (estimate) (singles)
May: 30 teams 26 singles
June 20 singles
that’s a 66% drop in 4 months.
This is not good for our community or for indicative of SF4’s staying power.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
I think that the scene is burnt out on tournaments. There’s one every week. That and c3 as a venue sucks now. Just IMO.
I think one of the ohter big things is that a lot of people play different games as their main game and when the game they are truly passionate about is not there there’s not as much incentive for them to come out. There’s a lot of people who main other games but still like or will at least play SFIV but when a tourney consists of nothing but SFIV it just keeps a good bit of people from really trying to come out. I think when the new games start to come out numbers will pick up again. SFIV is a great game but it’s not everyone’s favorite game.
We’re at the point now where people have seen and done SFIV and those that want to stay and play will and those that are waiting for other games are doing so at this point in time. I talked to Lud and apparently him and Dras are the only 2 people in Waldorf that are still serious about SFIV. Everyone else gave up on the game. Unless we gather players from other games and other out of state players and hype things up to get them back into C3…C3 is going to be small in numbers.
Especially when there’s so many tourneys to go to in a month or so’s time. You bring a bunch of people from different states to a tourney in Richmond…they’re not going to do the drive next week again for C3. It’s just a lot of little things that are changing and I think the new games will help to revive things and bring back numbers.
is there a tourney before evo? i think one would be enough
n.c. and philly weren’t able to make it…i dont think that means c3 is “dying” lol. all the people that matter in this area were there, plus i met some new people. fewer randoms=who cares?
Yeah it was a local event of high level players. Majority of the people in the room were talented players.

eric v’s terrible promotion and tournament running abilities. i know for a fact several people stopped coming once it was known he was running c3 and getting paid for it. we need someone better at both of the above, and venue change as well. tournaments have been running consistently in va for 4 years without any arcades, that’s a moot point.

The promotion is lacking. It’s like I told Valencia yesterday… nobody likes 6PM tournaments, so a lot of people don’t go to C3 anymore. Yesterday’s tournament was billed as a 6PM tournament, but was changed later. If you were a player who clicked on the C3 thread, originally saw it was a 6PM tournament, and decided not to go, you’d have no reason to ever check back, and you’d never know it was changed to a 1PM tournament. Eric should have made some sort of effort to get the word out on the change.
There is also a very real backlash against Eric, himself. I’ve talked to people… it’s definitely real. That’s a problem.
SF4 being the only game doesn’t necessarily help, but it should be drawing bigger numbers than it is. I think that’s also just a problem with us as players… we’re not really playing, so there isn’t that much hype surrounding the monthly tournament. I don’t think a whole lot of us really care about SF4 like that.
C3 will pick back up… only 1 game, sf4, is being played.
after july, there will be BlazBlue, KOF12, and Marvel… id be willing to hold UFC tournaments as well, its actually a really good game.

UFC hype sounds like marvel hype, in terms of there being IRL UFC MM’s if things get out of hand. imo

i ran brackets before i know it sucks. so thats one thing i wont do, tho i am willing to help. and by help i mean ill look after and write names in the bracket while the person running it is playing a match. finding people is a bitch

it is hype… its random, but at the same time its not random… and you cant really mash either :{ but its pretty balanced and you gotta be smart
