Damn, this thread is getting long. I thought I’d never find the end. Anyway, all you guys sound pretty good so why don’t you start coming to the Bi-Weekly Hagerstown tourneys. They are becoming pretty big and are getting alot more competitive. I noticed that the last Gametime tourney only had 13 players in it. Hagerstown have a good 16-20 players everytime just for Alpha 3 alone. (some great players and some average players just like anywhere else) Now that we are doing 5 different games, We are getting alot more good new players coming out of the woodwork. If all you guys came too, it would be an awesome tourney. Check out the tournaments section for details. I’d like to see the grudge matches in action. LOL! How about MD vs VA? LOL!
What’s up Gimpy and friends? Are you guys definately making it up to the next Hag. tourney? It should be a really good one. I’ve gotten a ton of new guys wanting to come and most are bringing friends. I can’t wait. Later!
By the way, I think there are good players everywhere and there always seems to be one or 2 that destroy everyone else in their area. We need to get all these people together at one place on a consistant basis, so why not everyone start coming to the Hagestown tourneys now that everyone knows about them?
My 2 cents worth about top tier…
From my experience in fighting games, there always seems to be a top few characters that are overall too powerful. Just when you think a game seems balanced, you run into a custom combo system or a Sagat, etc. Like someone said, there is always a counter character (usually) that is good against a seemingly over-powered character. I could care less if someone uses a top tier character or not. I love to fight top tier characters because I get alot more satisfaction beating them. I also repect the guys who have the balls to play with crappy characters and win also.
The bottom line is most players will use a variety of characters but when it comes to tournaments, they will resort to the usual easiest road to victory. It’s all in the eye of the beholder, would you rather be remebered winning a tournament with a top tier or not remembered at all using a bad character. Now if you can be remembered winning a tourney with a bad character, now that’s a whole different story. I use ALOT of different characters good and bad. I only use characters that look cool and fit my style of fighting. For instance, I like Charlie in Alpha 3 the most. I use A-Charlie the most since I like the style-points of triple supers and comboing into supers. Sure, V-Charlie is better, but he’s just not my style so I don’t use him much. In tournament play, I like to pick my best character and one I like alot despite how good he is. I usually stay away from top tier unless that character happens to become top tier over time. The worst thing about top tier players is that everyone learns to fight them since everyone uses them. I know a friend who does well with Birdie because not many players know how to fight a skilled Birdie player.
