MD/VA MvC2 thread

all right so, the MD/VA region has a 3s thread, and a cvs2 thread. i know for a fact that springfield has marvel, and so does waldorf (reppin:rofl:)…
to be honest, im not good on paper, but as far as casuals, im decent imo.
i wanna get better, and i know there are alot of top/good marvel players in my area that would help. Shinshay! Fray! coughhelpmecough

i usually play with retired OG’s,lol, so theyre good enough to get me better, but to lazy to teach me any other way than kickin my ass,
kid phenom, jodi, and a bucnh of other regulars that around/below me.

so im starting this thread to start my actual technical education.

i want my main tourney team to be cyke/s/d, sometimes i play cl0ckw0rk,

…and i want to be the east coast felicia!!:woot:…

so lets get conversing! any tips with the first two teams i mentioned?

we had justin, sanford, combo, and isaac graham at c3 w/o being able to run a complete marvel tourney. good luck=/

yeah i was pondering that myself, but its like alot of people in this area dont play marvel seriously anymore, or they dont get excited for a chance to play a top name…fear? f*ck that, i wanna get great, not just good…if this thread is a waste of time, thats really dissapointing…

now with that said, id like to get some advice from players in MY AREA insted going to “strat zone” just to get flamed for asking certain questions…

would cyke/s/d be a feaseable tourney team? why or why not?

there is no MD/VA marvel scene.

MD/VA Marvel Scene

I wonder what the deal is with people and marvel these days myself. People say there is a steep learning curve, but steeper than 3s, CvS2, GG, etc…? I think there is a huge fear imo. Certain names have dominated the scene for so long, ‘new’ players seem to be hesitant. I mean, skill comes with practice. So what you haven’t been playing marvel since 2000 like jwong and etc., it’s still the same game. They have knowledge and experience of team styles, weaknesses, attack patterns, defensive strats vs certain rushdowns, but all-in-all it’s still the same game. There is no ‘secret’ they possess. Do this:
-watch the old tourney footage, learn what countered what, how they blocked what, when they used assists, mixups, etc.
-there is nothing new under the sun…and if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. what i mean is, there have been many marvel players, so i could imagine the uprising of a prodigal ‘new’ team to be null and void…look at what worked and improve on it
-execution and timing…there it is

hey i’d like to post more on this later, and go through the rundown on cyke/str/doom. i would imagine, if anyone would play that team competitively, the most effective order would be: doom-B/strider-Y/cyke-A. Doom would be the chicken of kfc and turtle while making effective use of cyke-a, dominating the air mostly and punishing mistakes, all the while making good meter for the up and coming king: Strider Hiryu. Btw, your strider had better not be nothing to F’ with, getting that much faith.

peace

For me…it’s not even a matter of being afraid to learn to play the game. Well…I am. It’s just I’m also completely uninterested in learning how to play. It’s just too fast paced for me and it’s a game I actually have much more fun watching than actually playing. I prefer regular SF kinda games where things aren’t so breakneck all the time. I used to play MVC2 quite a bit just to mess around with but when I really started getting into games like Alpha 3, CVS2 and now 3S…I really understood how much more I liked those kinds of fighting games than the vs. style.

hmm, i always start either cyke and overlap dooms aaa to dhc strider in safely, which i know isnt always reliable so thats what ive been working on as of late. but my strider is decent imo… ive got the s/d lockdown strings almost up to par…sometimes i have problems with my strider getting rushed down, and the good players can see my “panic cyke aaa” coming a mile away, and they both get f*cked up, and then strider gets snapped out, either doom is left to fend for himself, (cuz cyke got messed up earlier) or cyke is brought in to seal the damage. lol so ive been working cl0ck as an alternate, but i want my main tourney team to be galaga…(cyk/s/d)…

who can give me dooms infinite string? thx.

swmmrmanshen:there WAS a marvel scene, and if there isnt one NOW, ill play until im gdlk and start one…

Recently it’s been more of a risk vs reward scenario involving MVC2. Playing random people and their groups, winning and losing, hoping you learn something along the way. On the other hand, its playing in the same stagnant pool of less than casual players who are felled by assists alone. I agree with you Spaceman, someone needs to start something with MVC2 in Md, maybe along the way I’ll convert some to playing NGBC or Melty Blood.

Anything you learned from other fighting doesn’t really get you far in Marvel. Learning curve steep? I don’t think so, I just feel it’s hard for people to overcome picking certain characters over other characters and understanding assists and teamwork. Without overcoming these limitations you can play Marvel for years, it’s not going to get you anywhere competitively. I can say the same for Smash as a game too. There’s really no fighting game like it, and anything you learned in Capcom fighters or any other fighters for that matter really doesn’t help much in Smash.

For me, Marvel was the first game I started to play with a competitive mindset. So when I started to play Third Strike and other fighters again, I was so lost. Meaties? What? What the hell is that? Wake up attacks? I can’t do double qcf for the life of me, wtf?

I feel anyone can make the transition, I just think they need to get over some prejudices of the game, “The game’s broken”, “There’s only 4 characters”, “Why do combos when you have an assist that does all the damage you need”, “All it is is dial-a-combos and spamming the same move over and over again”

In SOVA, I don’t know about the Marvel scene anymore. GB was nice having their Marvel machine after Lynnhaven lost their arcade. Then the fuckers sold it for 500 for no reason even though it was making money and decided the only reason they wanted to sell it was because it was deemed an “old” cabinet. That’s how I met up with Teddy, Ryry, and Scooter; and kept practicing my Marvel. The only other machines around are the one at the beach in Flipper Mccoy’s and PAGG. So home games seems to be the way it go.

SF mall sticks are horrible!!!

MvC2 is dead in VA/MD. All of the love and determination was sucked out when Isaac Graham moved.

with me being a 3s player and everything. mvc2 was the game that kept me goin to gb everyday. and thats how i met unknown, scooter, and ryry as well. and i used some bad teams in my early days but i kept coming back. marvel was the game that gave me the competittive mindset as well. as time went by, i got more into the traditional fighters like 3s, sfa2 and cvs2. even tho i’m not a marvel player competitively, i wouldnt be here now playing fighters if it wasnt for mvc2. it sucks that gb got rid of it, but we go to a arcade where ddr is more important than mvc2 . if our manager didnt play 3s himself then would have been screwed.

wow. if you think marvel is fastpaced, then you won’t be happy to see the sf4 vids dj01  the gameplay looks faster than 3s imo.

i dunno about u guys, but marvel will always have a place on my list, and wherever it’s played, i’ll never turn down competing in it. gotta love the tension at the beginning of the match when ur standing face to face with a dangerous mag player who is itchin to infinite you with every move. haha if you feel someone uses their assist too much, make em’ pay for it. i sure get punished when i get lazy. scooter and ryry aren’t havin it lol. anyway, if you guys don’t meet me in marvel, i’m on the 3s, cvs2, gg, tekken, and etc. scene as well. to each his own.

spiff, doom’s inf is pretty cake, but it’s not always practical. oftentimes, doom will be making space, rather than pressuring to the corner. if you do happen to get someone in that situation tho, its pretty much:
launcher, magic series, hk, fly, lk, lp, hk, fly, lk, lp, hk, fly…then once you get them higher into the upper screen, just rep lk, hk, fly…
a good way to maximize and take out your opponent would be to end the inf around half life, dash down forward for his grab, and photon hc them outta there. fun inf

hey, i dunno if it works but it’s worth testing if you have the time. it’s a lot easier for strider to catch someone in the corner with an activated ouroborus. once strider has played effective mix-up to catch the opponent, after ouroborus ends, do magic series, c.hk, and tag out to doom for the otg, then launch and do ur thing. tag back to strider afterwards and enjoy the kill alongside the extra meter. as always, easier said than done, so practice and get some matches in

peace

I started out using Strider in crappy lowtier scrub picked teams. My first main was like, Strider, Hayato, and Akuma. Hahaha… very fun team and even more fun with 125%+ damage for all my characters. I used to use Strider/Doom/Cammy and Strider/doom/Tron. Both of which were fun to use, with tron as third it was easier to land some easy damage when I couldn’t trap, I actually won a few matches against Ryry and Scooter with it. In all seriousness just skip Cyclops and just learn Sentinel or Storm. Saves you a lot of trouble.

As for the doom infinite, I never really spent too much time on it. I think it’s easier to just launch in corner, magic series, airdash down-forward, fierce throw, and then short, roundhouse xx photons, it’s an easy reset and the damage is there, and you can easily DHC if needed.

thanks much:rofl: that will help alot. i understand what everyone is saying, really i do, but, ME personally, i just refuse to stand by and let the scene die. it really does seem kinda pitiful, cuz im not a top name or anything, im just a casual player, but ive been playing for years and have loved the game for quite some time. on the other hand, i play lots of other “not so fast paced games” as well. but a rolento cc is just as big a mindf*ck as a mag infinite imo…but i love fighting games in general, I CANT EVEN PLAY MELTYBLOOD! and i love that shit! i used to be on the tekken scene, but our machine never got updated past five, and i dont drive. (thats my next project)…id be just as happy to play CvS2 or 3s(havent picked that one up yet) or alpha 3 or gg, even hokuto no ken…i love everything, but like so many others, marvel was my first game. people say its broken, but that just comes with the package i guess. marvel is great because of the fast pace, and, despite the combos, everyone (even the mashers/scrubs) has a chance to do something. id much rather play justin or sanford @ marvel than cvs2, cuz there are too many variables imo for everything in that game to be sealed on paper…and im just tired of playing less than casuals, angry scrubs, and even people on my level, there are only 4 people (not counting shinshays random appearances) that can tell me whne im gonna lose and them completely crush me. and when those guys arent around, i cant learn, and i get stuck doin the same shit…if this thread only serves as a “Spaceman Spiff!” mvc2 training thread, then so be it, but i just wanted to try…

i heard a trick to the timing on sentinels unblockable is 2 wait for the persons sprite to dissappear before c.fp…true? or no? if not whats the timing/trick?

and whats the rule for fast unfly in time to block hailstorms and lightning storms?
do i have to superjump? or can i fly off normal jump and still do it? shinshay tried to explain it but im a sentinel scrub:confused:…

thx…

yeah i get that alot, but i already know cyke like the back of my hand and would rather be most effective with a sword instead of miss with a gun, figuratively speaking, y’know? on top of that im learning sent now as it is, and hes ok, at least good enough to not get pwn3d by complete scrubs…

You have to be in unfly mode in order to unfly and BLOCK.

Unfly MODE is pretty much entering fly mode after being hit with an attack that let’s you recover before you hit the ground. This allows an action after unflying, it’s good to have for stomp patterns, but I keep forgetting about and have trouble maintaining. Don’t worry about having a little, study session for Marvel in this thread, it’s something to keep an interest in Marvel.

good shit thx…

i refuse to belive it! cries

haha, yeah its pretty dead but i still wanna get good.

We need drama to get the scene going again:woot:

Yeah that won’t happen, only the majors (evo east, FR, random tournies held by big names) bring out true Marvel sport:shake:

the only ones who play mvc2, in no particular order, in VA are: b1g, n-ken, slogan, the mexican mafia(pablo, juan, ernesto, bolo), vidness, me, some sova heads(not sure of how many, but they are there), victor, rockman, Robin, Iraq Pat, mammation, the cpu on hardest difficulty, mark g, crimson vemon, eric kim, jun, mag man, ronald, max, elfaz, and ummm thats about it. who ever isnt named pretty much sucks or isnt worth mentioning or doesnt exist. this list is 100% accurate.
