I wonder how long until the citizens get FULLY pissed. After all those months ago, dick all has changed and people are still fucked. How fucked is the US gov’t willing to go, before “butting heads” becomes “Oakland burns”?
the problem with the movement, is that they tried being peaceful, and they were thrown out. So slowly, the gov’t is leaving the people with no options BUT violent revolution.
And I like that they picked a Soviet holiday to do this on
There was nothing peaceful about Libya. Egypt, the entire country said fuck you. Imagine, if you will, all of North America not going to work for awhile, and all marching on their capitals, and saying enough. Would our armies be loyal to us, or the government? I seriously think it’s going to happen. This shit can only get ignored for so long. We’re one more economic meltdown away from a VERY bad situation.
FYI: are you familiar with Tor? The browser designed by the US Navy to fuck with other countries internet? It was quite during the Arab Springs. Now it’s used for the black market on the internet sadly, but yeah. I posted about it in another thread.
It’s losing steam, not getting worse. I walked through Frank O. plaza on my commute today, and it’s not like it was months ago. The remainder are mostly kids, anarchists, and Nestor Makhno fetishists. It looks like there are around 1/20th of the folks when occupy hit its peak.
You have to try to somewhat grasp their perspective on the situation. I mean, they live in countries with strict religious laws, corrupt politicians, and lack of entertainment. Seriously, a PS1 in Egypt is like 100USD in their market. So you can at least get a vague idea on why they would go batshit insane and start an all out revolt. Compare the Occupy protesters in America to the Libyan protesters-turned-rebels, a majority of the former probably grew up as white-middle class while the latter was dirt poor in a shitty country.
tl;dr version: protestors in third-world countries use violent tactics, protestors in first-world countries use peaceful measures, due to living conditions
Too bad nonviolent protests eventually escalate (or degrade, depending on your opinion) into violence after enduring severe oppression. And again, it really depends on the atmosphere of the situation, and the key people running the show. Ghandi’s lead protests are vastly different from the impromptu protests and revolt that occurred during the Arab Spring (exempting Tunisia). The same thing applies to comparing the situation in the North Caucasus vs the Bosnian incident
Let me ask you something. If you grew up in a country with poor living conditions, and you were thrown into a situation in which force was necessary for survival, would you fight for your life and RIGHTS, or would you be deluded into thinking peaceful protest is a good way to show your dissent. Likewise, if you grew up in a relatively wealthy & comfortable environment, and you were thrown into a sticky situation, would you grab and AK and spray some motherfuckers or would you march around with a picketing sign because you don’t want to lose your material attachments?
The ukraine orange revolution was pretty much non-violent and worked. They pretty much did what happened in tahrir square, they sat on their asses (or stood up) and dared the army to touch them.
