Man. I’m happy and sad at the same time.
Happy for the MD/VA scene to get a shot at a real major. I had been trying for a long time. Mid Atlantic Championships in 2005 was the closest I got. I’m also happy b/c I feel like I’ve put alot of effort into C3 and the MD/VA scene over the past couple of years, and I’m glad it’s thriving with out me.
What makes me sad is that I can’t be there, brackets in hand. My leave is up the 18th of May and I head back here to Iraq. I want to be involved so bad, but I can’t.
Anyway. My two cents:
Ask david to possibly “rent” the upstairs dojo.
Make it two days.
Smash is a must. I probably would make Brawl a two day tourney. Or least run singles/doubles on different days. Run pools one day, send them home, and run the 32 or 64 man bracket the next.
You’d have to make it super early though. We’re talking 10am start time. I would even make hard end time, and just finish the next day… like… 3pm, pick up and come back tomorrow.
Wacky side tourneys can be run on friday or sunday night.
Although it would be tough on staff and on odor, I think there should be a lock in friday, and open really late on saturday night. Casual gaming is pretty much the best.
I also can help out with some equipment. I have a couple of small junky TV’s and 3 dreamcasts.
also, I think if you could get 6 dreamcasts with Monitor hookups total, you’d be set. Marvel and ST would be taken care of (now if everyone had converters or DC sticks…) Actually, I haven’t tried it yet, but I’m sure you could probably use monitors to run stuff for PS3 or 360 titles. Using monitors means more setups=more TV’s=Less time… you get my point.
You’d also be REALLY wise to get pre signups and put them into a computer organizer like tio. Run that on a projection screen, but actually have the computer that’s doing it out of the way.
Honestly, the whole signup process would need to be revamped for something this large.
Anyway, I’ll be at the next two tourneys. I will help however I can.
