"Maximum Brofist" The Kanji Thread

its weird though, if I do it off of EX Cruel attack its alot easier for some reason, but I cant combo into EX cruel attack (and keep them grounded) ~__~

If i try it in any other combo its a fuckin bitch… and i noticed that it seems crucial for his more damaging combos so I guess I’ll have to get that down before taking Kanji outside of training mode.

Only works if they are crouching or on counter-hit.

Gotta say I hate grapples in 2D fighters, but Kanji is fun as hell. Seriously considering playing him over Chie as my main.

The matchup against Yosuke is not fun at all. He’s never grounded and never stops moving.

you have tools against both tho.
at least he needs to get close to you, in contrast to elizabitch : X

Some the Yosuke I fight like to double jump and throw kunais all day. Elizabitch at least does her shit in a height I can reach

that’s day 1 scrub tactics tho. a smart placed “Gotcha!” will take care of that and teach them to consider your options.

Yeah, Kunai business isn’t so bad and his lazy mixup option (The back and forth air slash / the jumping 2C low kick) becomes pretty easy to react to (The air slasher thing is also unsafe on land, but if their clever they’ll not land right beside a Kanji), with a bit of matchup experience. I was grinding out some vs. Teddie and some vs. Yosuke this afternoon. Teddie is a lot more trouble I’ve found (but not yet Elizabeth silliness)

One thing I am not at all happy about in that matchup though is Yosuke’s reversal. It is active for 1 billion years and that makes me a sad panda. No real damage, no status effect, but a knockdown and a mixup, which outlasts your standing D command grab in invincibility + active frames. His throw range is atrocious though, if that makes up for anything.

This is really, really hard to react to on the fly, I’ve discovered.

so far not a single kanji on the stream for lvl up tourney so far. x)

kanji is gonna be one of those characters that you have be a specialist with to get results. Most of these dudes have been playing arcade version for months now or they are going with the easy week one characters (Chie/Mit) That you can get good results with without learning matchups.

Did you see Pain’s Kanji Last night at Norcal Install? It was pretty inspiring to have a lot of his matches prefaced with “Kanji gets bodied free by X in this matchup” 10 seconds later “And Pain moves on in Winners”

No offense, but it is Norcal. Seriously though, I gotta check for this pain guy.

Hah, I have no idea why I’d be offended by that, but it was still pretty decent to watch, I dun learned some stuff. Also worth checking out is The Biter from tonight’s Persona Launch tournament, a SoCal Kanji player who sadly got rolled by Xie’s Aigis in grand finals but otherwise had a very strong showing (including sending Xie to losers in the first place)

need a few of his replays - one of them might convince a few friends to picking this game up - some mad hype was involved.
love that game. seriously.

The Biter was sick at the launch tournament. I’m stealing enough shit from him that I’m dropping Chie to just play Kanji now. First time I ever mained a grappler in a 2d game BTW. With Mitsuru as a sub of course though.

I am a Kanji player and I have seen my fair share of character variety online but, I do not have any experience against Chie and If anyone is familiar with this matchup you can reply back your thoughts on what a Kanji player should do to win and what a Chie player should do to win.

Link to video?

That’s the archive I don’t exactly know where he was playing. He was in grand finals though so he should pop up towards the end.

So I am A rank and started running into very skilled Mitsuru and Elizabeth players… I feel so helpless on Elizabeth now. Anyone want to practice with me?

Trying to work on Kanji… not sure if I will pick up Mitsuru, Aigis, or Yu/Teddie… and yes I am butt hurt
