In my opinion, a lot of his humor is hit or miss. Some of it is corny and not really funny, and other times it’s hilarious. I can think of quite a few Doom lines that were unexpected and great.
I agree it has good production value, and I actually enjoy the skits he puts in there. Anyone who criticizes their acting… if your watching MvC tutorial youtube videos for the acting quality your a moron - these arent professional actors. You can tell they are putting it out there with good intentions and for fun, and having fun while they are doing it. Considering it got higher production value than most videos on youtube it’s idiotic to complain about acting. They deserve credit for the work they put in!
I would prefer his videos to the majority of “tutorial” videos out there that consist of watching a random player do a combo and then 15 seconds of annotations any day.
I like Max’s tutorials, I always recommend them to people who are interested in playing the characters he has “assist me” videos for. I know when I was starting out with Wesker and Doom, I definitely watched his videos and I moved on from there.
The Doom in his videos is absolutely hilarious too.
I’d say Deadpool, Arthur, Haggar, or Pheonix for just MVC3. Deadpool because he’s hilarious(comics, games, movies, you name it, he’s entertaining and humorous), arthur bc, cmon, imagine it, your mind would be blown. Haggar because i love haggar, he’s one of my favorite charcaters, and pheonix because turning someone into dark pheonix in a skit would be bad ass.
But for UMVC3 i gotta go with Rocket raccoon, Pheonix Wright and nemesis. Rocket raccoon bc that would just be hilarious, trying to find someone to play the part of a raccoon WITH a rocket launcher? too epic. Or even better, maybe getting a dog or some other household animal? too sick.
Pheonix Wright because he could do a whole skit about Doom suing wesker for taking over the world or something like that, and pheonix wright could be the attorney in the case.
And nemesis because If they have wesker and jill already then they could do a thing with chris and nemesis and have some sorta epic fight to the finish(with wesker eventually coming back of course).

Max knows his audience and targets them well. Nobody really wants to sit through 15 mins of explaination why not have some fun with it? That’s what he’s doing.
He started off just posting up online matches, which I think he should focus on doing more because there are A LOT of people who are bad at this game but like watching other people play. Although Assist Me is very informal, I believe the Hyper Guides are the best place to start. As I said, Assist Me is for people looking to laugh and at the same time learn.
Alright, personal opinion here: Maximillian’s Asisst Me videos remind me of Pure Ownage. The comedy is there, yeah, but the humor can be so assed backwards and the acting can be enough to make you grit your teeth that you just quit watching after a while.
I watched the first ep of the Jill series on my own and happened to be with friends when I noticed the second was up. It was infinitely more cringe-worthy than, say, just having the tutorial and every now cutting to Max talking about the game. I realise why the live-action humour segments are in there, they’re an amazing view getter, but I don’t like them. I agree with Mustachio about Pure P/Ownage - it’s funny, but the ridiculous amount of ham puts me off and I get bored pretty quickly.
His SF3O stuff, on the other hand, is supermegainteresting.
Also the new assist me was great. I don’t watch them to learn how to play a character (I can use SRK for that), I watch them to see Max + good cosplayers. I guess you could say I liked PP for the same reason. I didn’t give a shit about the plot, I watched it because Kyle, Doug, etc were really fucking funny.
I don’t know why Max would get any hate at all… I mean if you don’t like the “fluff” fine. But I think he provides a very unique and welcome service. Just because he puts spin and humor on it to make it more interesting (and by the way, research shows that humorous interludes help retention of information because of the way our brain associates items together) isn’t a bad thing. I mean say what you want but remember, there were 2 million copies of MvC3 sold and MAYBE 20,000 people play it with a truly competitive fire… MAYBE. Of that 20,000 less than 20% of that will attend a single tournament at any point during the year (and even saying there are 4,000 unique tourney goers for MvC3 might be a bit of a stretch). So if you’re one of the 2,000 or so people on the planet who could beat him fine, but don’t be so arrogant as to believe that everyone is like you or doesn’t need a little help to up their game. So for the rest of the masses, I think its hard to argue that he provides a helpful and useful service with a sense of humor and cheesiness that quite frankly appeals to the inner web nerd in all of us.
Off topic, I know, but the first 6 or so episodes of Pure Pwnage were absolute brilliance (The rest sucked). If Max took that same humor and applied it to a MvC3 gamer, I’d watch every single episode. Granted, he’d have to improve his acting a bit, but the general idea would probably amuse me more than having Dr. Doom as a roommate.
Besides… We all know Morrigan would be a better roommate; she’s the epitome of ditsy, and the evolution of skank.
But he shows his knowledge of the game, he’s not bad in any sense. Definitely not a pro or tournament person but he does not suck, at least he knows how to play the game.
While I will never play Jill I enjoyed watching his videos, yes the acting is sub-par but I don’t expect something low-budget like this to have Morgan Freedman-skill actors. They’re internet videos it’s enjoyable and informative. Dat Jill…
I don’t really care for the show myself, but I appreciate the fact that Max is putting on a good show for the FGC and is doing it with humor and ingenuity. Some of you haters are coming off as if you have your own pent up creative ideas and just have no means to get them produced. At least Max puts on a show and has some pretty good production values, though it is not my type of humor.
