Now, as a long time member of the 3rd strike community (started playing back in '83), I think I can speak for all of us when I say that alexisdabomb won all our hearts when he performed the infamous parry against Daigo at EVO 2004 (also known as evo moment 2). You best show the pillars of the community some respect lest you want to get stabbed bro
Honestly the only thing that really bothers me is that YT keeps shoving his thumbnails in my face as “recommended for you” every time I finish watching any fighting game video.
Yeah these are my overall true thoughts on Max as well.
I have him subbed for a few months on Youtube and watch his Twitch every chance I get so I can be stated to be a fan but I do realize that he obviously has problems but again, everyone does so I don’t pretend otherwise.
Atleast he’s more open with his problems than most.
Too bad nowadays Max makes mostly “Let’s play” type of content rather than providing information for teaching people, even if it’s just the basic stuff.
I.E. his “Assist Me” series. But then again, he probably doesn’t know a lot about, say, Guilty Gear, so there’s that
And I don’t find let’s plays entertaining either, which makes me to rarely visit his channel at all, unless it’s a video with news on SF5 or something like that. Him and Vesper I find the only two FGC-related YouTube channels I can visit to get some fresh news on the Street Fighter universe in general in a video format
Everything else is either done via livestreams (on Twitch) (and what’s the point of watching VODs alone? I’d rather go to YouTube if I wanted to see a video) or via text articles, and, again, I’m not a frequent visitor of Eventhubs (mostly because of the chaos in the comments section) or SRK’s main page (since I can access that same information on the forums, where the dicsussion is usually more active, with the exception of tournaments results, which I usually watch live anyways)
The day9 comparison is pretty apt. Both started out as dudes making videos about games they were passionate about and ended up as dudes making videos about jerking off to their own jokes to the backdrop of games they find sort of okay as long as they don’t get in the way of the autofellatio.
James Chen raised a good point- Players like to jump at his throat when his info isn’t accurate, but no one comes to him with offers to help make better videos about said topics to begin with.
"Yeah but he’s getting paid for the video so why should I bother doing the work?"
to which one can probably answer “he’s getting paid to give your message exposure to 400k subs you couldn’t be getting by yourself.”
That all counts on you being interested in getting a message or correct info out there. Most people don’t. I’m not getting paid to be Max’s fact checker, I don’t care enough to write a report on what he got wrong and what the proper info is. Maybe, since this is his job now, he should put in more research than none at all.
I understand that you don’t care. I’m talking about the people who believe “he’s important because he brings in new players”. Assuming it’s true, why not help him make something good about your favorite niche game? Use his channel as a platform.
Imo what Max brings to the table is fun. He makes fighting games look fun to noobs and casuals. He did for me. In the same way that Gootecks and Mike Ross do he makes me remember sitting on the couch with buddies talking shit and playing games. Something i do less and less.
On the other hand you have Lowtiergod and DSP who make playing games look as much fun as going to dentist.
I cant really comment on the misinformation he hands out as his knowledge of fighting games (however poor by fgc standards) is way above mine. I suppose the constant superfluous videos on every little thing just to get clicks irks me. But then again thats the youtube game i suppose.
The 3S vids he and Gootecks did were fun though and he holds his own when they go head to head.
Pretty sure fighting games are shit and the only people that like them are sadomasochist and lolicons.
Real niggas play real nigga games like life is strange and Frozen free fall. I wanna see that no chin having fuccboi max do some videos on that shit like a man.
Yeah, if you’ve seen Boss Rage, even though you know it’s fake it’s pretty friggin funny. Met the guy at PSX and seems cool, and no he’s not gonna talk much about high level gaming but like what others say he often bridges the gap between the casual and the hardcore. I know what to expect from him. If I wanna understand fighters better, I know where to go for that.
Anyone who is popular, or who stands out from the pack in any way, will be hated online by a small but vocal group of losers.
The fact people could hate Max, and I’ve never met the guy, but I’m a pretty good judge of character and he seems like one of the nicest dudes you could meet, anyways, it’s pretty fucking sad and pathetic.
I’d say it’s probably jealousy at its core. Deep down it kills them that a guy can be successful playing videogames being a free spirit meanwhile they’ve conformed themselves, play it safe follow the rules chase money work a job they hate not take risks and instead of taking the blame for their own mistakes, they instead hate on the person who represents everything they deep down wish they could be.
-edit-
Like how can someone watch this video and not laugh their fucking ass off, get pumped up or at the very least, recognize that this guy has talent and creativity? http://youtu.be/a38DJ3XKdUg
Here’s the thing.
Whose that guy, the number one most successful gaming channel on YouTube, the guy who makes all the stupid faces? I dont like they guys videos. I gave it a chance, didn’t like it, wasn’t for me.
Same with Justin Beiber music. It’s not for me, I don’t like it, so I don’t listen to it.
But obviously, these people are very successful and millions upon millions of people love them. To each his own.
The second that you start expending energy “hating” someone online, or anywhere really, writing super hateful posts or trolling all the persons content or “debating” it with people… At that point, you’ve got problems.
A rule of thumb. Act online how you act in real life (though sadly many of these haters/trolls have no real life). If you constantly told your girlfriend/best friend/mother/uncle the same shit you wrote in comments every day, they’d all be wondering the same thing: why are you obsessed with this person?
Because that’s what it is. If someone bothers you that bad that you can’t just ignore it and move on it means on some deep level it effects you. Haters have deep seated problems.
I wrote a bad review of Mad Max. That movie had a 98% RT. I didn’t like it. But it’s art and we are allowed to critically analyze it. But I’m not hating on the film director calling him a faggot douche and trolling his social media making fun of how he looks or how he sounds or how he acts. Get it? I’m also not losing sleep over the fact I didn’t enjoy the film.
If you don’t like Max don’t watch his videos. Anything beyond that and you have serious loser/mental problems.
