Max is a decent person, it’s just, he is a haven for the scrubbiest type of people. Reading through the comment section of any of his videos is fucking painful and infuriating.
The biggest problem, IMO, is that he’s really popular so a lot of people listen to him, but the fact of the matter is that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about a lot of the time. Then you get thousands of drones repeating the shit he says. Honestly, I feel like the biggest factor when it comes to the hate for him is his fans. Max is an alright guy but fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck those fans of his that shove him down your throat.
I think part of the whole ‘doesn’t know what he’s talking about’ thing stems from how people new to the games look up to him as an approachable source of information. He would commonly cover games at a basic level, such as with his Assist me series. Tidbits to get the people interested. But as time went on, they demanded more info from him and he had to answer, leaving his comfort zone of knowledge and leading to misinformation coming out

I find him entertaining enough, though if I personally want info on how to dig deeper with certain mechanics or characters in a particular game, I just start asking around.
He’s good to get a basic grip on what a game is like, at least. AND he’s not a scrub. Compared to say, DSP.
As for his general audience? I pay no lick of attention to them.
The [insert any other FGC member] hate comes from the foul nature of the FGC itself - hating everybody for no fucking reason whatsoever. It’s not just Max, he just happens to get the boot more often because of his popularity. Any other pro player gets shit from people, especially if he attends the tournaments often (and even if he avoids them)

Tournaments usually:
a) have shitty video quality
b) have shitty commentators, or
c) are playing SF4
Unless Steve is on the stream, Max is generally the opposite - good quality footage and production value, entertaining players, and generally NOT playing SF4 or Marvel.
I think you’re overstating the pull he has over big tournament footage. I don’t recall Max getting more viewers for playing the same game that’s going on at a major. He might be playing something else, but since he doesn’t actively stream SF4 that much…
Personally I subscribe to Max because he likes a lot of games that I don’t play (Like KI, MKX, UMvC3, 3S), and his gameplay comes out at a good pace and is good enough for me to see what the game’s about, and what I would probably experience if I played it myself.

I used to think the videos that involved acting were ok to watch. Hearing him talk about updates of MvC3 was helpful for when I wanted it all broken down but after a certain point it became really typical lets play shit and fake hype so I stopped watching.
I respect the hustle but I have to admit I just don’t care what the fat guy thinks about e3 or whatever.

His Boss Rage with Asura’s wrath was awesome to watch. One of his best video’s to date I believe.
Yeah he isn’t the best of fighting game players he makes some good content that’s fun to watch.
These days most people who don’t like someone’s content seem to hate on the person as if it’s their fault instead of realising that it just isn’t interesting in their opinion. People not understanding that their opinion isn;t actually a fact is what opens the hate gates.
There are always other people to watch if you want a more professional view on things but people like hatin’
