Good games last night! We had 12 competitors, and it was intense. For me, some of the most intense fights… I lost in Winner’s and ended up winning 3-1, 3-2 in Grand. Hope to see some more next week!

Yo, good stuff Matt, it was great meeting everybody ( this is Alvarez ).
You’ve actually given me incentive to start posting here again!
My hatred for Sagat is unrivaled and massive, haha. >_> Mahvel side tourney next time? On console?
I ended up not going to Fight Club and went to a Smash tourney, which I immediately regretted upon arrival. I’m officially done with that game. It’s not worth my time.
I want to apologize to anyone who was at the tourney on Friday. Midway through the tournament a “friend” blurted out that he and another player who didn’t show this week had agreed together my play style was cheap, that I’m no good, and that I rig the brackets every week so that I win. I don’t think he realized I was in hearing range, and he was telling this to a new player. I obviously was very upset and disappointed that people were talking behind my back and accusing me of cheating and went off a bit. So I’m sorry for the outburst. I would like to set some things straight however.
The brackets are not rigged. On weeks were the turnouts are less than 9 or 10 players, or when I don’t have time or patience, I randomize the brackets. Weeks where there are more players or when I have time, I seed players based on tournament placings from weeks before, and usually if you’re new, you’re at the bottom of the list. I think it’s only fair that since you’re new, and I don’t really know how well you play the game, you have to work your way to the top (even if you’re a known tournament name). I also separate players who play together often and who traveled here together so they don’t face their friend right away in the bracket.
When I seed players, I always ask for another player to scan the seedings and see if they have any suggested changes. Players who have won frequently get byes, and players who don’t do too well do not get byes. Correct me if this is wrong. I usually do not seed players to promote a more friendly environment.
I’d still have to beat “the best” in order to get first, right? I can’t completely escape a better player, even if I tried to by making the brackets myself, in order to win.
Now the assumption that I rig the brackets came after a week where I RADOMIZED everyone, and still won. Even though i got a bye according to the randomized drawing of tio (the bracket builder), players who frequently don’t place too well also got byes. The main player who called me cheap/a cheater beat me in Winners’ Finals. I adapted to their play style, won out Loser’s, and beat them in Grand Finals.
I’m not one to humiliate others or create drama, even though I was wronged, but you’re coming off as a sore loser. Why do I beat you if I’m “not as good as you”? Sagat has many tools and different play styles, there is no “correct” way to use him. I spend hours a week playing the game, you can’t just pick Sagat and win. Please bring your pride down a little, and be more friendly to others, or I won’t allow you to play here because you’re turning away new players.
If anyone has a problem with me creating the brackets, then I will let someone else create them. I do not rig them.
Okay, done with that. Results!

Thanks to everyone! I really liked seeing new players! And to those who couldn’t make it: try again this week! I hope to see you all here on Friday. Remember, we’re starting no later than 7!
Well I’ve been waiting for someone to put me in my place! Since I’m such a cheesy player and all.
Eventually I’ll have enough time off to make it up to the DC area for a tournament as well…
“…Midway through the tournament a “friend” blurted out that he and another player who didn’t show this week had agreed together my play style was cheap, that I’m no good, and that I rig the brackets every week so that I win.”
LoL, mmm, I wonder who said this…? But I like how he still showed up to YOUR tourny anyways. Even if he didn’t play (cause I only see ONE Sagat on the results).
Keep doing your thing Matty. It’s getting better everytime…
Yeah, MattyP, he was saying what he was saying about the rigging to me, and I just let it go through one ear and out the other. I have no doubts about your bracket creation method, and I’m quite aware that you have a solid Sagat. I’m entirely sure you don’t do anything to ensure some sort of win because the first time i came i watched as you lost in a very close game. Don’t worry about anything that was said to me, I’m coming back in a month to see if I can snag a win, haha
@H60: Who it was is not really important. I’m not trying to lash back. I was explaining why I acted the way I did, and to defend my side.
@Mamation: It’s only $10! That’s like half of what you’d pay at a bigger tournament. I hope you come by one week!
@Rob: The person who made the claims actually didn’t come this week at all, but someone else was sharing what they agreed upon. It’s whatever. I bend backwards to help people and get disrespect in return.
@afro: Thanks for understanding. I was afraid it was going to push away new players.
LOL. Don’t worry about that shit Matt. SF breeds scrub mentality. Besides…it’s better than playing Smash.
Besides you can’t really seed a bracket with only 15 people. If you win 2 matches in a row the 3rd fight is just going to be against the person who is going to beat you no matter what any ways. At that point you just have to stop sucking so hard.
People like them will never see the light though. They saw how easy it is to grind victories in Modern Warfare and can’t understand anything else. As long as those niggaz are being pot monsters and bringing them dollaz who cares?
Basically what deviljin said Matty. This game breeds a lot of scrub mentality. Even a new player like me notices that. If the person was “better than you” he should’ve beaten you. Point blank. I learned this lesson not too long ago myself. Also, bitching about the brackets shows how little a person knows how tourneys go on. They have no idea about seeding or bye’s or how anything works cleary. I’ve been to tourneys all over the east coast dude. You run tourneys perfectly fine.
If people see you winning, there will be hate. And the better you get, the more hate you get. The more you win, the more hate you get.
So at the end of the day dude, all that hate means you’re doing something right
Keep it up
EDIT: also, as far as playstyle goes. I suggest you play as “cheesy” as you can. Not only does it keep the opponent frustrated and flustered, its fun I’m working on playing lamer myself.
