That one match in the last link of Sasaki’s post where Vega throws his claw in the middle of the match against fuerte reminds me of something… I was in a match fighting someone and after I hit with two jabs I (accidentally) cancel the last hit with the dam claw throw… As the claw slowly descended, my opponent stood there, probably laughed on the other side and then did an ultra on me which resulted in my death… I really hate that stupid useless claw throw.
I even remember doing a claw throw several times while pressing a kick button. I have no idea how, and they seriously should remove that move.
Meh, you could claw throw after an izuna if you want/need to, provided the positioning is right (i.e. your back is to the center of the ring). Not completely useless, imo. Now the mask throw, THAT is nonsense. 1/2 gauge cost bs. :S

Some characters can backdash through vega’s ultra. I think the first vid of it was one of the bebop vs. sanchez (Vega vs Bison) or someone at one of their cali barfights like a year ago
Nice matches Joz, I liked your use of the FA against his rush punches. It almost eliminates his full screen approaches.

I always use focus attacks on Balrog’s dash punches. Even if it means eating a torpedo punch or overhead, I’ll still do it. You can backdash out of an overhead so really, only the torpedo punch gives you any grief. And, if you use focus enough, and they get used to torpedo punch, you can punish it without using focus easily because it’s one of the slower of Balrog’s dash punches and you have more time to react.
I found a new way to hit Balrog’s with FBA / Izuna. Obviously yeah, TMJ kept using headbutts, but since that fight, I’ve learned that a great way to get Balrog’s with it is to sit at max sweep distance on their wake up; on their wakeup you do an FBA, and if they do a reversal headbutt, you can swoop in for an easy punish. Otherwise just veer away if he sits and crouches instead caues yeah a headbutt beats Izuna every time. What I was doing in that match to some minor success was cross over FBA to make the headbutt whiff in the opposite direction then punish from there but thats hard to do and is not very reliable.
Yeah, the EX focus attack into forward dash is punishable. Normally I try to go for the combo (cancelling the last hit of RCF) but in this match we had like 80 people watching is so we were both incredibly jittery and we made many uncharacteristic mistakes. Normally he gets me in the corner and never lets me leave because of his menacing tick throw / poke mixup, and normally I hit combos instead of just doing the j. mk into nothing. Plus there were $450 on the line and a PS3 so my head was not in the right place. Balrog is one of my most well versed matchups; the other Balrog in my city has beaten me once in the last three weeks (since that tourney) in about 20+ matches.
You did pretty good there. A couple of things to note.
Using Izuna on a crouching balrog is not such a good idea. If the player is not using headbutt at all then sure, but he used it alot.
-I have had alot of success using focus attacks against balrog in this matchup so seriously abuse it. That stupid overhead and that rising diagonal punch armor break so watch out for those. every focus attack you get him with is a free stand fierce punch --> crouch mp --> EX FBA.
-oh yeah. That ex focus attack in to forward dash allows balrog to counter you first since vega’s dash is so slow, so dont do it. (I am not sure if they recover first on hit, but I think they do. On block I know for a fact that they recover first which is so stupid.)
You charge AFTER you input the dash, cowboy, not before. besides, I think he knew he was going to hit those dash punches!

I can’t follow you here. FA lvl 2 xx Dash,unexpected crumple and you were not charging after your backdash input,expecting to follow up with some offensive tactics and standing normals. Seems like a normal situation to me.
Or it can be just that he never saw his Ultra bar getting full after he FA’ed that dash upper,in a heat of a battle.
I don’t know but if I see an attack getting absorbed by my FA I let go, backdash and charge. It’s very doable against dash punches as you don’t need really good reaction for it. Same goes with slow normals.
But whatever. I guess he didn’t do it because he was shaky because of the tournament :'D Happens to me too.
