I used to have a lot of trouble with the df.HK ST combo, but it’s pretty easy with two tricks. Remember to always start charging downback the second you hit HK, and if you do the f+HK motion right before they hit the ground it’ll almost always come out. Most of the times when I screw it up, it’s because I hit it too early and get a st.RH instead.

but what is this “rh” stuff? and i think I saw some more ‘r’ stuff which didnt seem to stand for any standard moves in the list
i suppose i should go ahead and tell you what i’m doing now, first
Step 1: FA lvl 2 or 3 (hits)
Step 2: Begin a DB charge while executing the FA; no imput for any dash at all
Step 3: Keep holding DB and wait until about 3/4 crumple state
Step 4: In an instant, move to FDHK then right back to DB Charge
Step 5: Wait until he begins to fall to about 3/4 the way to the gound
Step 6: EXST
Step 7: Bust out the tissue (when i fail)
so i’m wondering if my steps 3 & 4 are purely superstitious or not
it seems to me that if you are charging DB, then quickly move to DF strike HK and back to DB charge (the same movement for Ultras and Supers) that you would “keep” the charge, and thus not have to wait so long (if at all) on the EXST after the DFHK
And in my mind, its just timing the EXST to occur at the right moment after the DFHK, as opposed to being a problem with my charge length, as i have basically been charging since the beginning of FA
or does the adding the HK at the DF position cancel all charge regardless of how fast I did it, and thus I am wasting 5 seconds holding DB for no reason at all?
so its like FA + ChargeDB + DFHK + DB(not a full charge) + EXST

You’re going about this completely the wrong way. If you’re looking to do the Focus Attack --> Cosmic Heel --> Scarlet Terror combo, all it is is a normal Focus Attack level 2 or 3, and then simply input the command for Cosmic Heel, but the second after you hit df+rh, you charge downback, the second that the body seems to hit the ground input forward+kick and the Scarlet Terror will catch at the last moment. What you’re trying to do is infinitely more complicated-also probably impossible-than what the actual combo is. Cheers.

i think I’m having diffuculty on the timing after the focus attack
if i dont do a focus attack, I can do it fine
but with the focus attack I seem to be hanging in the FA animation too long
I can do the FA to CosHeel to EX FBA Izuna Drop, like clockwork
it should be the same I guess, but I can’t nail the EXST ending consistently AT ALL

i think I found my problem, but have yet to fix it.
when I do the FA +CosHeel + EXFBA + Izdrop I use the following concole commands:
FA + DFHK + Hold DF + EXFBA by simply moving from DF to UF, which is an awesome technique
however, I can’t go from DF to F for a ST, Nor can I seem to go from DF to BF immediately to F for a ST
so therein lies my problem, I don’t charge DB for my EX Izuna from FA cosheel because i don’t need to
and without doing the FA I can still charge back and hiit with EXST
I’m really getting hung up after the FA,
it really feels like I should be doing a dash before it, are you sure there’s no dash?
its probably just a timing thing, does the Cosheel have to be perfectly timed after the FA like a normal combo link would be?

This isn’t really the thread for it, but the way I do it is FA > dash forward > charge down-back > df.HK > charge down-back > ST. Dashing makes the timing of the df.HK a lot more lenient.
I know the first charge isn’t really needed but I’m used to the rhythm of doing df.HK > ST after blocking something low and then punishing. To me this is an easier motion than keeping the stick in down-forward after the FA.

I tried uploading the vid onto my photobucket account but it wouldn’t show up (even though it said it was uploaded) and vimeo.com requires you to sign up for it, and the last thing I need is to have an account on a website I may never visit again. Sorry.
The two ways that I show on the vid how to do the ST combo are:
- LVL 2/3 FA -> f,f -> df. HK -> ST
and
- LVL 2/3 FA -> df. HK -> ST
The dash in the first combo puts you right in the opponents face. It’s nice because you can hold df as you dash in and then hit HK after the dash ends to launch them and then follow up with a ST. Also since you are right on top of them the ST is pretty much guaranteed to hit as long as you time everything right. This is my preferred method of landing this combo.
The second combo works fine as well. You just wait for Vega’s FA hit animation to end and then df. HK -> ST. The timing between the FA and df. HK is pretty lax (i.e. you have quite a bit of time to land the df. HK).
The combos aren’t particularly hard. It’s all about being speedy and charging db the instant after you input df. HK and then following up with f + HK right before the other character hits the ground.

first, after FA Ryu he cant be touched whether i dash or not, until he has landed on his knees and begins to fall forward,
if i do it too early, nothing hapens and i just sit there and watch him fall over
if i do it too late, i kick right over him
if i do it by constantly pressing the HK button as he is fallingi hit him without problem, there isnt enough charge time.
which brings me to teh second part, how much charge time is needed?
is it less than a normal ST because its part of a combo?
if its not less, then i definietely don’t have enough charge time, because when i do it without the focus attack i have to charge exactly after I press HK for it come out, a few frames later and its not enogh to charge
well nevermind, i just did it…
the way I did it was to rapid fire HK until i saw the slightest movement from Vega then immediately hold DB, you really dont have any extra frames to play with
more often than not i just let him fall to the floor in an attempt to charge back at the earliest possible moment
other common mistakes were charging back instead of BD which is required, unlike most other charge moves in the game
and sometimes hitting UF instead of only F
I found the Following against Ryu with a full life-meter
281 damage for lvl3FA + Cosheel + Sweep
316 damage for lvl3FA + Cosheel + HKST
330 damage for lvl3FA + Cosheel + EXST
329 damage for lvl3FA + Cosheel + FBAIzuna
i suppose the damage for lvl3FA + Cosheel + LKST + HKST may be more, but I suspect its less though, as you only get one hit from EXST and its the last one
so for all that trouble, the only one i think is worth anything is HKST ending
but the difference between ending with a Sweep vs. HKST is barely worth the effort
if I was going to utilize EX i would prefer the Izdrop for the same damage.
theres really no difference in game play other than positioning I suppose
unless I get really good with this thing I think I’m sticking to Sweep and EX IZ
well I think Vimeo is still far better than Youtube, and Might be a nice place to showcase your material. I think (hope) there will be a shift away from youtube in the future due to the unbelievable amount of rubbish on that site already

Thanks for the tutorial General, and whoever made the tutorial on linking DF+HK into ST. I could do it on occasion but not consistently and that’s been helping, muscle memory will take over after a time.
