This may be my humble opinion, but I think it’s even, or maybe 5.5-4.5 to Fei. Certainly not a difficult matchup, but Yang doesn’t have a clear advantage. I wish I could play this matchup more, but everyone around my area usually picks Yang over Yun or Fei.
One on hand, both Yang and Fei have extremely comboable, extremely safe rekkas. On the other, Fei has a much better DP and command throw. Yang has the better overhead IMO - it’s faster, IIRC and can be comboed after if it hits late. On yet another hand, Fei can play extremely defensive against Yang, but because Yang has many safe normals and gains meter like Donald Trump gains money, he can also push Fei back into the corner with Mantis FADC tactics. The matchup is one of the biggest tugs-of-war I’ve seen in this series, because the two have several major similarities, but also some quite polarising attributes, too.
Both Fei and Yang have similar goals - corner lockdown. Fei has EX chickenwing to try and force his way through things on the ground, but Yang has EX teleport to get out of the corner. Fei has a beastly forward dash, Yang has a beastly backdash.
Fei has Ultra 2 to punish predictable divekicks. Yang has U1 to punish predictable jump ins.
This is how I kinda see it. Yang is going to be outpoked, so he needs to apply as much pressure as he can when he gets the opportunity. The good thing is that Yang has the tools to do this. It might take a bit of work, but it’s not a terrifying matchup, IMO.
interesting, also if your so kind how is the yang vs rufus? reason i chose fei long and rufus cause they are like combined to make yang if you know what I mean so i’m just curious on how the mus are since yang seems like he has the somewhat rekkas and rufus dive kicks going on.
Well Yangs mantis are Rekkas and Rufus stole their Dive kick
As much as I’d like to give my opinion on the matchup, I am yet to fight Rufus in AE. Rufus has always been an unpopular character in this area, even in Vanilla.
Hey Wasted, if you had the reactions, can U1 beat Chicken Wing?
100%
Also about the Rufus matchup, it’s good for Yang. You can zone the shit out of him with palm and some of his normals like st.HP, st.MK, st.HK, and neutral j.HP. On top of that, even if he gets in you can EX Dash or DP to get out of pressure.
Rufus also has pretty bad defense without meter, so you can rush him down pretty easily.
I also don’t have enough experience on the fei matchup to say anything about it.
Also, this is the wrong section to ask about that.
kk my fault thanks for the info though appreciated. Another curious thing, how is MP palm FADC? does it combo if not can it combo off Counterhit? my theory combo, MP palm, Fadc, cr.mk, mantis.
Nemo loop seem to be a lot easier then expected. I never thought about it till yesterday.
I been doing full reps of cr lk/ cr mp with full meter. Even got a reset :3 :woot:
man that must have hurt! =d i’m guessing if you can start your super combo in the beginning and somehow go for a reset when it’s 80% finished, you’ll prolly take off like 75% life or more just by that.
Though it wall specific :(. I dun know any good mid screen super loop with yang
I think it’s a hard matchup, you can’t rush down or zone Rufus infinitely he will end up having bar… ex jesus kick is still good even with the nerf and still gets out of a lot of pressure situations. Well this is just my opinion, I am yet to find a decent Rufus to play against and test my Yang, most of them just try to pressure with dive kicks in a senseless fashion. I would love to have a opportunity to test each other distances and normals against a fairly decent Rufus.
But when Rufus hits Yang he hits it for a ton of damage.
You can’t rush down anyone infinitely though, so I don’t think that point is particularly valid. EX Messiah is still good, but it’s his only chance of escape. You just treat it as if he has an SRK - in that respect, and I’m just theorising here, that’s not really that scary if your mixups are tight.
Agreed. EX Messiah is a very slow reversal in truth, and if you bait it, I’m sure U1 will be one of the few options in the game that will punish any followup.
If they’re EX Messiah happy, one trick that I use with Abel may work with Yang too. After a dive kick you can try using a command dash or EX command dash. Since EX Messiah is so slow it may go through it, and you can use Rolling Kicks or U2 to punish him from behind.
It works really well with Abel’s roll and then punish with U1, but not sure how well it will work with Yang’s options.
If the Dash works them Ultra 2 would probably work… unless Yang’s Backdash gives him enough time if you bait Messiah to buffer in U1 and get that instead.
Here are some combos that I’ve seen from the recent batch of videos I’ve posted up in the video thread.
cr. mk/close st. hp xx hp mantis x2 xx fadc, close st. hp xx hp mantis x3(I saw this combo a lot and it seems to be the main punish with meter without ultra).
cr. mk/close st. hp xx hp mantis x2 xx fadc, close st. mk, whiff dive kick, close st. mk, mk roll kick.
Also, in Seiei Enbu, a mantis slash allows you to combo into U2. I saw it on a different video though. I’ll try and find it.
I’ll be finishing up this post. It’s just that I want to get complete frame data and a console copy of the game so we can figure out the most optimal combos for situations like post-command throw, strongest knockdown with DP (better positioning than rekka), etc.

connected U1 as well from SE overhead > mantis in corner.
Also read on the JPN bbs that yang has another loop in corner but I need console version to train on it more, its:
[s.lk, HP palm, dash] x n
people who claim to be able to do a few reps say it does 300+ dmg though no footage of it, while it is flashy it is difficult to be practical when many just choose to c.mp over n over again.
I’ve only done it once when the cpu wasn’t being mean to me to let me attempt it.
I did usual mp xx mp palm xx SE xx c.mp > dash into it as well as c.lk c.mp dash into it.
I just never have been able to connect a second rep of it yet.
SE combos are extremely awkward for me because I want to input everything asap but really you need to link everything instead of canceling attacks.
Do you mean s.short, strong palm, dash?
Fierce palm knocks down [and is slow].
I thought it was a mistake as well so I tested strong palm and couldn’t get it to work, maybe my timing was wrong since I suck at SE combos especially with my arcades crappy buttons and set up.
However I can assure you that at least s.short > fierce palm link combo (since you can’t cancel a normal in SE) works in SE in corner.
I’m guessing the fierce works because it reaches a little further than strong palm even though it is slower.
Also the fierce causes wall bounce so even though I haven’t connected a second rep yet I can visualize the s.short reaching and keeping the opponent bouncing in the air long enough for another palm.
I think the biggest problem is not just the link timing but you pretty much need the opponent deep in the corner because of the pushback from short. I don’t think it will work from command throw while you are in corner, I only did it from FA2 crumple, mp xx mp palm xx SE while the opponent was deep in corner.
I quit wasting money testing stuff on the bs cpu so I’m just waiting for console release to perfect my SE combos and hopefully capture this combo as well.
