Mastering the Mantis: Yang Combo Thread

Oh, I’m not arguing that Yang can out damage Cody., to be honest I didn’t know that was a combo - I just went to the Cody combo thread and posted the highest damaging one off a light. Apologies if that was incorrect.

Cr.lk x 3 xx rekkas, at 140, is way lower damaging than most characters bnb’s and that’s what I was hoping to combat to some extent.

His punishes are weaker than some, but not the worst in the game. That Yun combo is character specific and does about 240 damage in 2012, which really isn’t that much better than Yang’s.

I agree about the last point… it seems like a bit much and it’s gonna be really tough to build a community now, which pisses me off the most. Here’s hoping for another rebalance, but I’m not holding my breath.

I actually brought this up in the tier thread and apparently the only person who does less damage on a punish is rose.

HP xx Mp palm > fadc into 3 cr.lk xx rekkas is a good punish.
Ex palm < Hk dp is a good midscreen punish.
Ex palm < dash forward into ultra 1 takes off over 500 damage midscreen.
I do those when my opponent has extreme frame disadvantage.

MP palm FADC is +4 on hit, right? I remember Alioune saying something about it being +5 earlier in the thread but I think the forward dash is just special cancellable right at the end. I can get MP palm FADC LK Senkyutai to connect, but not MP palm FADC cl. mp. MP palm FADC s. lp works, but if I’m right it’s a 1 framer that can’t be plinked for little benefit. That or I’m just fucking up the combo; I’d be stoked if it worked though.

lk dp is 5 frames so it should be higher than that.
Does anybody know yang’s frame data for dash? Should be easy to find the exact + frames afterwards if we do the math (though I’ve heard there’s like 1-2 frames you can’t do anything after a fadc).

What I meant was that even though palm FADC forward LK senkyutai should be 5 frames, there’s a window of probably a frame or two to special cancel the forward dash that allows it to connect. I dunno, I’ve been trying to FADC into cl. mp for quite a while now and plinking it and it doesn’t seem to work.

Oh cool I just did the dp fadc dp trick Sako used to do with Cammy on accident. Didn’t know it was possible with Yang.

i have a question : is cl.mk x 2,hk dp,hk dp the combo that builds the most amount of meter in corner??
i saw a japanese top yang player doing it , hit the lab and for 210 damage it seems pretty good for almost 1 ex bar

Sorry I could’ve explained a little clearer. DP FADC and dash which crosses under and DP which hits from the other side. This way you can for example get out of the corner and then corner the opponent safely.

Oh, right. It’s pretty good situationally, but I don’t get a lot of opportunities to use it since dp fadc is -4 on block. You have to be pretty sure you’re gonna land it, unlike with Cammy.

Do you guys do the relauncher combo after rekka > FADC close medium kick (whiff dive kick > cl.mk > h.dp) or do the jumping hp mix up (dash, cross under, command dash, etc)? On the one hand Yang gets better damage from the relauncher but the jump cancel mix up has more potential, but there’s always the threat of getting dp’d.

personnally , i do cl mk dash cl mk mk or hk dp(cl mk dash U1) it’s character specific but i got used to it…
mixups is what u should do if u have a life lead i think…

So I was doing some testing because I wanted to compare Yang’s damage to Yun’s. Yun can get 290 damage for one bar from dive kick, cr. mp x2, st. mp xx ex dp to lunge punch. Then I wanted to see if Yang gets the same damage in any way and got 291 damage from dive kick, cls. mp, cr. mk xx ex rekkas to medium roll kicks. I’m not too sure how safe it is to do but when I recorded it and tried to crouch tech after the dive kick I got counter hit.

Is anybody using this already or is it unsafe and I’m just failing in training mode? To me its really good damage and it corners the opponent quite handily. Sure unlike the Yun combo it’s spacing dependent but it doesn’t work just in the corner it works from the third line from the center in training mode and it’s easy to know when the mk roll kick isn’t going to hit.

Huh, nice. It’s times like this that I wish that I could actually do EX rekkas…I just cannot move the joystick fast enough. Especially from the P2 side…

It’s worth learning imo. I used to treat it like a useless option but the damage is just too good to pass up. It’s Cammy-level damage for a character that supposedly has low damage.

It’s not really that I don’t want to use it…it’s more of that I physically can’t do it. I’ve practiced for quite a while in training mode and no matter how much I practice, I cannot do it consistently. Either I drop it after the first one and/or I do an Ultra right after the first one. And that’s from the P1 side, which is where I’m most comfortable.

Rant aside, EX rekkas are pretty good…if you can do them. As it stands I probably won’t be adding it to my game anytime soon…:stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah I used to have trouble doing them but I guess training mode just paid off. It’s just a matter of figuring out the rhythm to do them. I kinda start mashing them in the beginning and then I just do them slowly after that to finish them properly. Do you use pad or stick?
