Masahiko Nakahira and his influence on Street Fighter

well, i just finished reading all the nakahira sensei’s sf manga (the translated ones) and i must say the guy is a genius.
i was so astonished by discovering the ammount of influence his work had on the Stree Fighter games, from evil ryu to karin, passing by cammy alpha outfit and blanka’s appearance, i mean wow the guy basically created a whole new character (karin)
It is really sad that Nakahira sensei did not make any Street Fighter II manga except the cammy one.

His STreet fighter alpha storyline was a whole lot better than the street fighter alpha anime, although the latter one took so many ideas from nakahira’s work (ryu fighting kan in front of chun-li on the beach is a minor example of such influence)

Sakura ganbaru was a great book, the book made me a fan of sakura who i probably used only twice in my life, the ending of the book really made me wish to see Sakura in street fighter 4.

Ryu final kicks so much ass, you really feel the characters have evolved and came along way since his Alpha story line, i really wish they adapt it to an anime of some sort.

I wonder if nakahira sensei will make a manga adaptation of STreet Fighter 4, especially now that the gamest magazine where all his work first appeared is no longer published, and if he does will his work have any influence on the upcoming Street Fighter titles? i sure hope so.

What about you guys what do you think?

I didnt like SF Zero he did. But I think that was just practice for him. The personality of the characters there, its like he didnt have the full vibe of them yet.

By Ryu Final, wow he was on the money. There is so much detail in his art especially the backgrounds. He created a move for Ryu that they put into CFAS and people still talk about it today.

After many years I cant wait to read the translated 2nd volume of Ryu Final. Props to the people that got his stuff before it was even translated.

So far I have only read Ryu Final Vol 1, but that shit is magnificent. Absolutely love it and can’t wait for volume 2. I think Sakura still instantly looks like Sakura when shes older in Ganbaru, and it would be the perfect look to bring her back with. The hair and headband keep her recognizable.

Don’t know about Masahiko Nakahira working on an SF manga for 4. Since 1999 he’s been working on his manga Hakaima Sadamitsu AKA Sadamitsu The Destroyer which has 12 volumes so far and is still going strong. LOL you probably know how terribly busy manga artists get when they are doing a long running series. Lots of horror stories they tell of not sleeping for weeks.

There is of course always chances out there for shorter stories, like when he did his CVS story of Kyo of King of Fighters fighting Sakura a few years back in Ultra Jump Megamix Vol. I.

There is a short 10 episode anime based on Sadamitsu the Destroyer, Media Blasters released it in the United States in 2003 in three volumes. It’s on my “Get around to watching sooner or later” list. Eh maybe a few more paychecks down the road. I’d love to see what an anime based on his manga would look like. :lovin:

damn didnt know he was working on an ongoing series :frowning: thats sad for me i really wanted him to do another street fighter manga.
dude i still wonder why they havent adapted his sf mangas to anime ???

heck yessss, thats what i was thinking thats sakura for sf4

About him creating another SF manga, hey anything is possible I guess. Didn’t mean to be a killjoy. I mean, it’s good for the artist that he’s working and is successful since there hasn’t been a new SF game in years right?

Both of the Alpha anime borrowed plenty of things from his works. Though yeah since both were OVA (the first anime was a two episode OVA in Japan, not a movie like it was released outside of Japan, ‘Generations’ was never released in Japan oddly) they had time constraints and there’s no way they could get everything in. Much like Masahiko Nakahira told his story of SF through manga I’m sure people in the anime world wished to do the same.

Not too sure but I don’t think manga based on a video game ever turns around and becomes an anime, it’s usually seperate. I can only think of the Dragon Quest manga that became an anime, but there’s at least two other Dragon Quest anime that are not related to manga at all. If a manga becomes an anime, it tends to be based on an original work and not manga based on a video game, because I imagine that people who create anime have a different vision for said video games.

The Mega Man Battle Network manga and anime (Mega Man NT Warrior) are entirely different things even though both are based on the same video games. That’s kind of the best example that comes to the top of my head.
