I don’t think Gum was referring to making a happ stick look like a japanese stick or using japanese parts when he made his comment. They do have concave and convex happ buttons, which depending on how old you are and where you played in the arcade your cabinet could have used either. So you could swap the buttons to change their color or their feel and still ge using happ/iL parts.
I think the point he was making was by using QDs you can make any changes or repairs that much easier, and it wouldn’t take much longer or cost much more than soldering the wires directly to the microswitches. That has nothing to do with making it a japanese style stick
Since I’m no wiring expert, I’ll leave the wiring suggestions and pcb discussions to the professionals (two of which have already chimed in). I do have one small suggestion for the case, which should be easy to do. if the mounting bolts for the happ sticks could be countersunk, the bolt heads wouldn’t show on the control panel leavinga nice smooth surface . It maked the art look better and you can’t snag your hand or wrist on the bolts, and if someone wanted to add plexi to teh case themselves it makes it easier as well. I countersunk the 3 happ based cases I worked on, which took less than 2 minutes to do. It doesn’t even need a countersink bit per se, just another bit wider than the one you’re using.
I know exactly what im trying to say if you want a jap feel get a jap feeling stick if you want an american feeling stick get an americna feeling stick if you’re wanting a box buy a box o.O What’s hard to understand? I mean really are you that big of an idiot?
This is just a disaster.
Anthony, I sincerely hope you decide to rough it out here and take the constructive criticisms to heart, while ignoring some of the more obvious flamebaits.
I am really hyped about finally getting a new mas case ordered in a few weeks, so I’ll be in contact with you when I’m ready. Hopefully you’re still around here then
But I think there’s some trolling on both sides of the fence here, so I’m just gonna be done with this thread for the time being. Thanks for all the info and willingness to help in this shitstorm, Anthony.
I’m guessing something got lost in translation somewhere. I think the confusion came from the fact that Gum’s comments had nothing to do with making the stick feel like a japanese stick at all. However, in your quoted reply you seemed to be saying his suggestion would be making a MAS stick feel like a japanese stick, which wasn’t the case (as I tried to explain in my earlier post).
To clairfy, a QD isn’t going to make it feel like a japanese stick. Gum also never suggested swapping for japanese parts, just swapping hap/iL concave or convex buttons. These also will not feel like japanese parts. While the concave buttons may seem similar to a japenese button by the initial touch, teh engage is exactly like the concave happ/iL button, which is nothing at all like a japanese button.
Hopefully this can clear things up without the namecalling. If not, I’m at a loss…
We use Happ buttons. Concave or convex is up to you.
We may be switching to IL parts soon.
We don’t offer anything in pink, but you can always send us the parts in pink, and we can make a controller using those. Or however you’d like to do it. That doesn’t sound too unreasonable. Make sure they’re happ/IL parts though.
It shouldn’t be bending at all, not sure how you got it to bend unless you intentionally pressed your knee into it. Regardless, we try to minimize costs as well as labor as much as we can, everywhere. This doesn’t just happen with the business either.
It doesn’t bend if you have it laying on a flat surface and it shouldn’t bend if you have it positioned correctly on your lap, but it will bend while handling the stick (i.e. handing the stick over to someone).
I can understand that you are trying to minimize cost and labor, but cutting two more pieces of blocks that are the same size as the other four should hardly raise cost and labor.
But hey, I can’t be too mad because you at least talked to your father about these issues. It isn’t your fault if he refuses to make any changes. I wish you the best of luck.
Is there a possibility of other colors being offered for the t-molding in the future? I had a killer design in mind that would go great with a white trim for the control panel, again though I’m just asking about the possibility.
Yeah, it really isn’t my call. Sometimes just two extra blocks can be a pain in the ass, depending on how it is. And thanks for not being hard on me about it. There are so many others I should thank for their support. I really wish I could make changes so that everyone would be happy about it, but it’s just not an easy thing to do.
We only can afford to buy black t-molding, and even that is running low at the moment, but what you can do is try to buy t-molding for the color you’d like, and if you want us to use that t-molding on the controller, we can definitely do that. Basically, you supply the color you want, and we can make it for you. Otherwise, I don’t think we can afford different colors, and most people will want a standard black anyway. Sorry!
I’ve had 3 MAS sticks in the past 7-8 years now. 1 with an old school P360. I love these sticks. Will be looking to buy a few more in the near future. Keep up the good work.
If you read my post, it has to do with post-warranty workability. Not playability. They play identically. Maybe some quirks somewhere, but, generally identical.
Here’s my advice to you, if your attitude is “take it or leave it,” you’re ignoring the fact that there are much better, cheaper and more communicative alternatives. When I “leave it”, I’m taking my money to someone who’s not you, and you lost a sale. Name checking Arcade in a Box specifically was to remind you that your product isn’t the only game in town, and very specifically highlighting who out there is your competition.
Actually, the UK version of Kitchen Nightmares(Show referenced, not Hell’s Kitchen) tends to deal more with older but failing establishments; establishments that have gone to shit because they refused to change their business practices or fix problems in a timely manner.
But, for 500 bucks, I can get an all Sanwa Hori RAP VLX Premium. My point I’m trying to make is that maybe you need to start rethinking business if things are so bad.
It’s called a false dichotomy.
I’m not the only one who’s outside looking in, it’s also your entire customer base, aside from close friends. Knowing how things are on the inside isn’t really instilling any sort of confidence in the business I’m going to be conducting a transaction with.
The reason why you have ridiculously good feedback is that your controllers are great. The reason why you’re getting into arguments and debate is that your business practices suck. It’s not that you’re scamming people, but people aren’t getting sticks on time.
Also, the way you’ve conducted business hasn’t changed in the last 20 years. This goes back to me referencing Kitchen Nightmares. Failure to modernize and adapt. The website, when it was up, was the same website for years, if that’s any indication what so ever. If your lines are bad, why hasn’t the telco come out to do anything about it? If you’re a business, why don’t you have a business line with a business SLA(Service Level Agreement)? You’re losing money on every call you can’t take(I work in a call center; I know how that part of every business works very well).
I really do appreciate you trying to do what you can for your family business. For you it puts food on your table, for us, it’s a piece of history.
I wanted to actually hear what your sales pitch was for your product was, actually.
Two things.
I really do recommend getting the site back together and modernizing it. The product itself really doesn’t need to be modernized, maybe going to something like using Perf board for wiring and mounting the PIC to the rest of the controller, which is cheap and looks a lot better than taping it to the case. But having the PIC exposed like it is is acceptable, if not a little WTFy, but that’s really not the big problems. More specifically and more useful to you, I’d suggest looking into using any number of open source CMS software packages out there with cheap hosting. Joomla, Drupal, etc. are all excellent for your line of business, and many have E-business solutions so you can have an online store. The advantage of this over eBay is that this gives you a lot more flexibility about how you present your product. eBay’s not a bad way to go either, but, having a site that’s your own is a little more professional. Also, allows you to have a direct line of contact with your customer base, so your business related emails aren’t going to only your engineer.
Second off, you should work on your sales pitch a little more. it’s almost there, but, you know, it’d help to remind the community that at some point and in some circles, MAS was the stick choice of champions.
I’m not here to bust your balls or start a fight, I really just want to be more constructive with what is unfortunately a lot of negative feedback. I’m a huge Japanese style stick fan, but if I wanted to scratch that American stick itch, it’d be MAS mini case.
The worst part is that I’m not arguing for myself either, I have to argue the point of the engineer. He’s not using any boards, and failure to modernize has a lot to do with our finances. We’re broke. If you want to try talking to him directly, that’s fine.
We have called our telephone company about three times within the past two weeks, to which they still have refused to come out and check the lines. They don’t give us an exact hour. All they tell us is sometime today, and it never happens. That’s pretty bad customer service.
Yes, we still make Neo Geo sticks.
The engineer is very stubborn with how he does things, and we really can’t afford much of anything right now either. As cheap as a lot of these services may be, they’re still not a possibility. It’s not a failure to modernize. You’re looking at it the wrong way.
I realize it’s still very positive feedback though, so thank you. I wish we could make these changes, but it won’t happen.
Also, we have a business line, and we’re losing money on it. I don’t know what an SLA is.
i’ve read through the last couple of pages and there are some valid complaints.
for someone like myself though, being able to purchase just the case is enough to satisfy my needs. actually it’s preferred. i recently purchased a ps2 mini-mas through another member on SRK and i’m highly impressed with the build quality. it’s definitely sturdy. i’m looking forward to purchasing a full size case in the near future.
I have a question again about the PS3 stick. If someone buys a PS3 stick is it $115 +s/h or more due to converter?
Also how much is s/h to NJ? A regular MAS.
I think on the website you guys had P360 sticks. Not sure if that’s true, but can someone still get one with it?
Wow, I’m gone for a week and this thread is all over the damn place.
The main issue I’ve seen is that Anthony isn’t the guy wiring up the sticks. He doesn’t have any control over the use of QDs or the choice of PCB. Someone name dropped AIAB who doesn’t use QDs either the last I saw. It might be a good paid option, but I imagine it’s considerably more time consuming for a guy trying to churn out sticks as best he can.
The phone situation is unfortunate. I would be all over them to get that resolved.
Did you find out what happened with massystems.com? The domain is registered with Network Solutions and is valid through 2013. If you have the time I will help you get that going at no cost to you. We can get you setup with a sales@massystems.com e-mail and have the website forward to your eBay store.
A PS3 stick is 115 (PS2) + 20 (PS3 adaptor) + s/h + tax if you’re in-state. I would need your zip code to find out shipping. You can still purchase controllers with P360 sticks.
I still don’t know about the website, but I’ll ask about it again. I took a break from this thread because things were just going all over the place. The phone company finally made it down and they tested the line. They said there was nothing wrong with it. They ran test calls on our phone line and they all rang.
