Was wondering what should I do with this MAS Super Pro Stick, which I purchased many years ago and it was mainly put in storage. I had used it for MvsC2 at the time, but not touched it since.
Deciding to try my luck to see if it worked with PS4/Xbox One with no avail, I decided to open this up to see what boards was in them. Seeing it for the first time, I am surprized that it appears the boards consists of an actual Xbox360 and chips of a PS2/3 controller, since at the time I had this built, I asked for support for these platforms.
I am thinking of possibly getting all new parts and rebuilding this stick with all new components. Is it worth to do or better to get a whole new stick (ie. Hori RAP4 Kai SE Edition Arcade Stick)? If replacing parts, would think that the Brook Universal Fighting board would do the trick, but wondering what would the input lag be vs those what this stick currently have which I do not know. Also, would it be a good idea to put optical joystick in this (Hori Hayabusa Silent Optical Joystick + Universal Mounting Plate)?
If all of the mechanical components are good and you’re ok with doing some wiring, grab a brook universal fighting board and you’re all set. Should you want to replace the joystick, I would recommend looking at the Paradise Magenta Joystick rather than an old school optical. There’s a thread here in the Tech Talk forums describing the stick.
It really does comes down to personal preference though so if want the aesthetics of a new fightstick, get one! Your old stick can easily be repurposed as a retorpie if you’re into mame.
Thinking more carefully, I think will leave the MAS stick alone since it still works in pristine condition and the time and effort which was put was put into making this.
I almost forgot that I have 2 MadCatz TE (SF 4 Limited) XB360 version, which will be an excellent candidate to bring them up to life as I thought these two were a loss. The reason being is, at the time I purchased these at PAX but never opened them up until like 2 years after to only find out they were performing badly. It was unlike my experience using the MAS stick which these sticks were going to be used in its place.
Originally, I thought it maybe the joystick so, I decided to put both with Rollie Flash 1 joystick and Saniwa silent buttons on them but it still performed the same. Upon doing further research, it appears that these had issues registering diagonals which I verified by looking at the display inputs on screen at the time, and essentially had given up on both of the stick. Looking at the Brook Universal Mod and seeing a TE + UFB video brought back insight that I can revive these two.
On the other hand, I am also thinking of getting a Hori or go making a custom fighstick from AllFlighSticks. Just curious, is there pros and and cons on either of these? Also do professional players in the competition scene prefer branded vs custom made?
I have a TE2 and the Obsidian and would recommend either although the TE2 is no longer in production. Check out some of the twitch streams from Combo Breaker and you will see what “the pros” were using there.
