I’m just hoping that all these bad reviews are just SJW bullshit and not the fart cloud that is Scott Buck (Iron Fist’s show runner) fucking up yet again. Some of the criticisms I’m hearing are almost the same criticisms levied at the last few seasons of Dexter (where he was the show runner).
Reviewers are saying it’s actually bad outside of the whole culture appropriation thing.
Also, it’s 2017, not the 1970s anymore. I can see why people are upset and sick of the white savior trope. Marvel turned some characters gay to please the LGBT community, the least they could do was rewrite Iron Fist(he’s barely known) for the asian people. But I think asians only make up like 4-5% of the US pop so they don’t care.
Apparently being 100% inferior to an Asian in his story isn’t enough. Apparently trying to turn Iron Fist into an Asian Stereotype is just fine, as long as it gets the Asian Community more exposure.
It’s not the martial arts that’s the stereotype. The stereotypes are formed because they cast Asian guys who can’t speak english so they are given very few lines and are just the quiet badass with no character development whatsoever.
A chinese character doing kung fu isn’t a stereotype unless doing kung fu and being chinese are the only traits the character possesses.
Changing Iron Fist to Asian ruins the whole dynamic of Iron Fist and Luke Cage (in numerous ways). And then you’d have the whole internet going, “What the fuck is Marvel doing?”
Other than that, if the series is legit bad, then okay, maybe they should have had a different showrunner. But it wouldn’t have been any better had they changed the main character to Asian.
No I get the point. You want actual Asians to be more than stereotypical badasses with no lines or 1 liners (There have been plenty of those, they’ve been all over television the past 2 years).
That’s admirable. But a lot of us just want good characters. If the character is awesome, due to fan appeal he or she will get brought back regardless of race (just like how Tr-8r from Force Awakens was not supposed to comeback, but memes and fans clamoring for him to be brought back made that happen)
But not for the sake of ruining something that’s been awesome and should (this series could be bad) be awesome (Iron Fist and Luke Cage), a lot of which hinges on the race of the character and is central to their entire relationship.
Uh…No I never even thought of Beyonce for Wonder Woman. I hated Halle Berry as Catwoman, tho not because she was black (Cat Woman has been black before by the way, Batman Year One. It was so minor a point tho it’s barely worth mentioning) but because Catwoman was a fucking awful movie.
Well…other than the fact Amazons in real life were probably bronzed skin, if not brown skinned? No.
Catwoman was doomed to failure regardless of who played her, but nah, she probably shouldn’t have been cast because as an actress she was never the same after that movie IMO.
Should Micheal B Jordan have been cast as the black Johnny Storm? Well no, because that movie almost derailed his career the same it did Halle Barry and that movie was also doomed to failure regardless of who was cast in it.
You know this is only strengthening my point that changing the race of the character for the sake of diversity instead of making said character interesting and dynamic usually ends in disaster…
