I disagree with your assessment. Without WM and duos being good, this game turns into a crapper version of mvssf IMO. I think Wolverine as a character and taking the game engine changes into account is better in this game than in mvssf and he was mind-numbingly great in that game and ran over everyone without super or hyper armor. He still does that in mvc1 but thankfully there are other good options available in this game. It’s hard enough playing defense and ranging effectively in Marvel games so I don’t see the point in taking away a viable play style just because it looks stupid in high level play. This game is bad enough competitively at high level but it would get that much more generic and geared towards pure rush down (with one glaring exception) without WM and duos being good options. To me, Red Venom automatically becomes #1 without those two elements and it’s arguable if Red Venom isn’t already the best character with the game as it currently is.
so you dont agree with the game being up down left right aside from wm?
Not sure what you mean by “up down left right”…?
My point is highest level in this game becomes completely geared towards fishing for low short with Wolverine or keep away/throw into 200% with Red Venom to help out without the other effective stuff, namely WM and duos in general. Strider would still be ok but would suffer without duos. Zangief would be good again but would still die to Red Venom along with everyone else. Either way, it doesn’t sound like a fun game to me.
msh is a good game, mvc1 is a big ass gimmick (still better than mshvssf, but not better than msh, mvc2, xvsf or even COTA)
i mean that the angle you attack from is pretty direct, no tridashes
I wonder how the 4 gods would’ve been in this game.

storm and magneto would rape with their fast-ass tridashes. sentinel would be interesting but probably lose to WM’s fierce and knee.
if cable’s psimitar would beat down mk like it does in mvc2, cable would be really good as well, even without AHVB. He wouldn’t need it
Are there any good wikis for either game or anything? All I can find is some stuff on gamefaqs.
I pmed you
I posted up the hit box to that shitty knee. Frying pan would beat that 100% of the time.
WM would want sent to be above him anyways so he can hit him with that jumping fierce
how practical is the venom infinite done in the corner here? the one that end with j.hk and begins with s.mp?

All MVC2 top4 would get their face bashed in by RV.
Storm would have a pretty good matchup against GWM, while Magneto’s would be nearly unwinnable. Cable would obviously be able to burn meter on GWM all day. Sentinel would probably do well against GWM, as he’s fast enough and long enough to fly and poke from range.
Storm would have awesome duos. Sentinel’s would be good, while Cable and Magneto would both have very bad duos.
I think Storm would be closest to top tier. Sentinel and Magneto would be around the same level as Chun, while Cable would be a bit lower than that.
Nice analysis Dan. One thing that comes to mind:What if GWM was in an upward trajectory super jump, right off the ground, and he were to get caught by Cable’s AHVB. I wonder, if AHVB would be enough to lock GWM in place. Or would he like push out of it either; during the super itself, or during the frame in-between Cable doing his AHVB.
This completely imaginary scenario has got me wishing I could see it IRL.
They look like that :

Couldn’t you test that on Mech Zangief in MvC2? Obviously it’s not the same character, but I think the same principle would apply.
Magman’s Dad went HAM on JWong when he slammed his wallet at him!
Wow! To bad there isn’t video of that!^^^
A good idea, but I don’t think it would work out the same. I don’t know technically what is going on with these non-blocking characters, but MechZangief and GWM’s hit stun mechanics seem to be different from each other.
GWM would definitely be stuck. IIRC, AHVB hits too fast to allow multiple pushblocks, which means GWM would be stuck in armor stun. And GWM doesn’t really fall out of beam supers, period.
The interesting question I would have is whether grounded GWM would be able to tag out mid-AHVB. I’d tend to think so, but the next character would just get killed anyway, so…
Strider’s pressure game was just so <3.
I also loved seeing this happen. Didn’t matter if it happened to me, I always lol’d when I got happy birthday’d during this thing.
