Marvel versus Capcom 2 - Ruby Heart: In depth

guile\ruby ron is pretty beastly low tier team. Actually thinking about it, theres nothing really low tier about it. Guile can fight with these 2 assits and if you setup ruby AA right, guile can really move forward behind it and get moving. Also, guiles flash kick super has instant start up which will glitch through shit and ruby has 0 frame dhc. The 2 combined are god like.

IMO, ruby trapping isn’t something you should use as your gameplan even w\ doom. The chip just isn’t worth it because shes far better off zoning and countering. Also her trap reps aren’t as tight as striders or spirals unless its in the corner and even then, you have to be careful.

The best ruby team has to be ruby\sent\capcom by far. Ruby\cable\doom is ok and probably beastly with bar BUT, ruby should be the one dumping bar instead of building it. I’m not a big fan of teams with your 2nd character also being your primary AA.

i’m pretty convinced ruby ron is god like even when competeting against top tiers. The only thing ruby ron needs is a point character who can build bar as well as fight and do damage while having a nice dhc. My guile\ruby ron team is kind of backwards in the sense that guile is my AA as well as my point character. but guile has an air super, then dhc which saves his ass when he gets into trouble. Its mostly just a low tier team but it will function against top tier squads as long as you can block and move around assits.

I had a mini-casual match-ups with merchie(local player) here in our place and his friend captured the vids using his cellphone camera. I’ve got Ruby Heart on point on some of them but majority, Anakaris does it all . Here they are:

So I was trying to find a 3rd that works decently well with Ruby. Ruby backs up Hulk pretty well, but if you have 2 levels they have one of the most damaging DHCs in the game:
(Ruby) combo to s.Fierce xx RH ghost xx HyperSchw’, Fwd3 Up3 UpFwd3 then right after the last UpFwd hit, DHC to Gamma Crush and hold Down. What should happen if you do it right is: Hulk comes in on the opposite side that Ruby started the combo from, hits once, they fall onto the ghost, then the Gamma Crush does over 120 pts of damage and the character dies.
This is the most damaging Gamma Crush DHC I’ve ever seen, including Magneto. Just the ghost and 2 supers by themselves will kill everyone except Sentinel.

Additionally, Ruby can do combo to s.Fierce+Hulk-B, Fierce chain, jump Fierce->RH land dash Fierce->RH xx HyperSchw’ for 110+ points and one super. If you start the combo with this on Sent you can easily kill him with the DHC.

As well, Hulk can use Ruby-A to keep people away or pin during rushdown; He can use Ruby-B to do 100% Crush combos (c.Short->c.Fwd, call Ruby, RH Charge xx Crush and aim down); And he can use Ruby-G to up his chip damage from normals and do 100% Crush combos without an assist.

for a low tier, sonson would be a good third. ruby/sonson is ridiculous if you get them in the corner.

What do fellow Ruby Heart players do in close-range combat? I’m playing her on point with Akuma and Morrigan. How to control space with her, say against pixie characters and move in safely against them? Does anyone have good blockstrings?

Whats her best option on jump-ins to start combos? I do know jumping HP is her best air to air, but how useful is jumping lk, and lp? What situations should I use those in?

Up close? Standing Fierce or lk, lk xx Sublimation then assist. for the win.

Personally, I play the trap game. with the string i just mentioned. you can do sooo much with ruby, it’s not even funny.

Well, this post is kinda late but thanks nonetheless. Personally I find 5HP to be useful for a variety of reasons, but not up close unless its in a magic series, its not all that fast. I prefer cr. lp to lk (its faster and has more range).

What you describe above is actually kinda simple stuff - I’m trying to take Ruby to new areas other than just lk XX Sublimination, as I’ve been maining her and I think there’s more faucets to her than that.

trapping really is ruby’s best thing she can do. I play her every so often…and while command wise her trapping may be “easy”, it is definitely not easy against someone who knows what they are doing.

may be nice to advance her trap/keepout game even more instead, as some have. new strats, strings, assist trap uses, assist killing, etc.

but really, just use the “basic” traps and think smartly. I’ll go for a combo if it’s given, but it’s better to stay a few character distances away and chip that shit!

also, wouldn’t j.hk be better than j.hp for recovery alone?

Assist kill with storm proj.

D + Lp and storm proj on main and assist, D+mp, snap - assist lands on storm proj, dash and kill with D+Hp, pause, s Hk, D+HP, s Hk,

sometimes doesn’t work if you snap them too close to the corner.

Should work with other assists - i.e drones.

well I meant assist kill, not really double snap situation

I cant get the first combo. they always block after the first smash of the rock
or when they land on the ghost.

i like to use ruby/tron/morrgan any feed back…
