Marvel Super Heroes thread

bh is one of those character archetypes that has really good zoning and defense but has really lousy offense.

so if you’re losing, things aren’t going to look good for him.

not all hope is lost tho.

-since he has an air dash, he can try to go nickel and dime damage by rushing in
-he can chip with infernos. unlike mvc2, he has 3 flavors in this version (lightning, ice, fire). lightning is safe on block, fire is semi safe on block
-try to go for tick throws. correct me if i’m wrong but iirc, bh has an above average throw range. its not as good as juggernaut or shuma, but its better than the pixies. i think he can get a super off of it.

Not really willing to get into all this since this was based on MY OPINION.
From now on, I’m only sticking to info that benefits whoever is reading.

Hey Jedpossum, have you come up with any useful hacks?

As little as I play this game, gotta disagree with your tier list. shuma is top 5. Spiderman and wolverine are tied for 1st. I think juggernaut is a secret counter to spiderman in this game, but whatever man. If doom is playable online for origins, i might get it… but i really dont wanna pay extra for trash game Mvc1.

Nope, but i’m working on Q-sound atm.

Hey everyone. I dabbled in this game in the arcades way back in the day and have done some labbing on GGPO but I really am interested in learning the game for real when Origins comes out. I was wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction for system direction and bnbs. I know there is some decent info the this thead but most of it is very old and i know the game has evolved a little with the people that play on GGPO so I’m not sure what is actually still worth doing outside of the infinites. I was looking to pick up Psylocke, Hulk, and Cap.

I should be making a tutorial some time soon Gintoki…It’ll be up in time for you to soak in the info before MvCO comes out.

Which character would be better to start with in this game, assuming one would get Marvel vs. Capcom Origins?

Spidey, Juggs, Cap

Brazil Oldschool x Usa Oldschool on GGPO.

Taikoubou (P1) x Spider-dan (P2)

All chars playable, rush down, counter matchups, a few infinites, etc.

This game can be cool without infinites!

Is it just me, or does the game feel really slow online on PSN as opposed to GGPO? Feels like it’s on turbo 1 even with decent connections.

Also S-E-H. I KNOW YOU LURKED THIS THREAD. YOU HEAR ME?

XBL is coming out today. I’ll check it out.

Ranked Match is on Normal speed, no way to change it. It looks like Player Match is also on Normal… there’s no option to search by speed, and there’s no place to choose settings.

Additionally, in Player Match, you play whatever round settings the host has set, and there’s no way to search by rounds. For some reason, Player Match has an option for searching for/setting the number of games you play per match, but not the number of rounds. I don’t understand why.

I want to pick up Dr. Doom. Does he have any infinite or semi-infinite?

I’ve not had the time to test these, but according to the old infinite archive, the following are infinites:

 • [dash crouching Jab-> SJ Roundhouse Foot Dive] x N

 • against airborne opponents? [Short Molecular Shield] x N. Command is 632147+LK x N, for what I would presume grants a slight ‘lifting’ effect normally not possible when using the normal command.

 • [crouching Fierce-> SJ Short-> SJ Fierce-> SJ Jab] x N

 • [standing Forward (1 hit)-> Plasma Beam] x N. Against Anita only. Plasma Beam command is 2369+P.

Spider-Dan: A short while back you were saying that after Cap hits the opponent with the stun of a gem activation, you were not sure if the follow-up crouching Forward was a true combo or if the opponent was so spaced that the crouching Forward was unblockable.
My limited testing shows that a gem activation stuns the opponent for 7 frames. Cap’s crouching Forward has 8 frames of start-up, so I don’t think that particular sequence is a true combo. However, the gem activation stun may be a little longer against crouching opponents, though I’ve not yet tested this.

Thanks

Okay one question for Capcom

WHY

i just wanna say that shuma is godlike in this game and probably the best character in the game. its a shame that shuma gets progressively worse each game despite him having more tools.

why hes god like has mainly to do with the game engine.

 • no pushblocking, in msh pushblock is absent, which means its much easier to tick throw, especially into his command grab and chaos dimension. shuma is a grappler.

-variable meter building. not all characters can stock 3 meters in msh which means that you don’t need 3 bars for the chaos dimension

-air movement. air movement in (u)mvc3 is severely gimped from its predecessors. in pre mvc3 games, shuma can sj forward/backward and still be able to steer left or right in the air. this is one of the reasons why his jumping mk is so good. you can make this move totally ambiguous since its one giant hitbox and it crosses up. it also option selects with his godlike throw.

-there is no set amount of health you can recover with his throw. every game shuma has been in post msh vs sf, he could only recover red life. in this game, shuma can practically recover all his lost life via his life drain grab.

-gems. combine the soul gem with his life drain grab, you’ll get back and absurd amount of life. and thats not even his best gem. his best gem paralyzes the opponent. he never got this move back post msh.

even though he takes good advantage of the engine, theres other non game engine related reasons why hes good.

-he has the best throw in the game, the life drain

[]its done with mk or hk
[
]mk is also his launcher, so you can basically option select this move. launcher is pretty safe on block too.
[]it can be done in the air
[
]j.mk is his best air to air move, so you can option select that
[]it recovers health (duh)
[
]it can be comboed afterwards (doing it against psylocke and probably spiderman is a bit tricky, although in the corner its guaranteed)
[]the range is on crack. shuma probably has the best throw range in the game
-mystic stare is actually good in this game.
[
]it has no recovery, at least one of the versions,
[]does a lot of chip
[
]all versions go full screen
[]the eyeballs do not latch on when it hits the opponent. the latch on mechanic was retarded.
-chaos dimension. its probably the scariest super in the game.
[
]its one meter
[]invincible startup
[
]startup is safe on block
[]he has guaranteed followups after able to followup, which almost leaves the opponent dizzy.
-good normals. they are not on spiderman or blackhearts level, but its still really good
[
]as mentioned above, shuma copter (j.mk) hits on all sides, crosses up and option selects into throw
[]j.hk has good reach and good priority, although a tad slow.
[
]c.mk goes under fireball and reaches more than a quarter screen

lp, c.lp is one of the fastest jabs in the game.
this game is one of the best. juggernaut forever!!!

Chaos Dimension is the closest thing this game has to an ultra or x-factor.
