I’ll do the same. However from what I’ve seen, it is clear reviewers are walking on egg shells with their criticisms of the film.
I’m leery of those giving it high praise. In a sense, it’s an accomplishment that there’s now a mediocre female super hero movie. It’s become mainstream now.
Are you talking about Stuckmann or other reviewers?
He usually gives B or A grades to most MCU films IIRC so it seems he was not sugarcoating his feelings here.
Fully agree. Stuckmann is a fair bit more tame unless it’s something that he in fact loathes.
I was referring to Screen Junkies. They didn’t sugarcoat their criticisms exactly but you could, at least to me, tell they were wary of a backlash. They don’t flat out call Captain Marvel a Mary Sue but their description of her fit the term. Dan basically only recommended it to MCU fans. Roth talked up the cat and the chemistry between it and Fury.
There were a few cool stories in space with Asteroid M and Princess Lilandra. But overall Fantastic 4/Avengers were always more interesting in space than X-men.
Stuckmann brings up a similar criticism. He said the film doesn’t want to make fun of the character which is something many other Marvel films never had an issue with. The result is a wooden performance by Larson.
It’s aight…
I waiting for the Rock to back out of Black Adam unless Tyrese gets passed over
Yeah, earn that paycheck Tyrese!
I saw in another review that she’s the most expressive of the Marvel protagonists so far.
I’ll stay away from reviews because I don’t want to compromise my thinking when walking into the theater.
That makes sense. I’ll check it out tomorrow. I hope I enjoy it.
Saw it (thanks to a brother who was the host for an advanced screening for someone), enjoyed it.
For the most part, it is a typical Marvel origin story and has the usual faults. Not as good as some of the highs the franchise has had but it’s a pretty decent start.
In a way, both reactions to Brie are correct. She feels wooden at parts, yet at the same time she can get quite expressive. Probably down to the script and directing.
Also, the Stan Lee cameo.
Spoiler
For once, he’s playing himself, practicing his lines for his appearance in Mallrats.
can you spoiler tag the post credit scenes?
The mouse lookin like Mr. Burns right now
Mid/Post credits
Mid:
Surviving Avengers are looking at Fury’s pager as it dies. They talk a bit and Widow says they should get it powered up again as she’d like to know who it’d. Then, she turns around, and Captain Marvel has actually arrived and she askes “Where is Fury?”
Post:
Goose coughs up the Tessaract, which was the power core that Lawdon/Mar-Vell was using for her light speed engine, and that Goose (a flerken) had swallowed earlier in the film for safekeeping.
Just watched the movie, it was solid. The internet hate brigade was bitching over nothing. Don’t think it is as good as Wonder Woman though.
Was there an Episode 9 trailer during the previews by any chance?
No, why would there be. It’s only March. That said there are too many previews. That shit was ridiculous.
