I’m not trying to prove anything, I’m not betting 500 on a random match like an idiot, but I’m just being realistic here. If this is a REAL EC vs. WC 5 on 5, why would you include people that arguably haven’t touched the game in over a year? Looking at who’s actually been actively PLAYING the game, the people I listed are the obvious choices to have a play-off to determine who gets the last spot.
And if Brandon can’t make it to ECC, it’s even MORE up in the air. Justin/Sanford are already banned from the team, so what do YOU suggest the EC does if both Demon Hyo and X don’t make it to ECC?

if it was a set of tournaments then yeah, that’d work, but the 5 on 5 is basically ONE shot with $100 on the line

Who’s to say that Shawn Morgan, or myself, or anyone hasn’t practiced for the past few months and actually gotten on top of their game? How are you going to judge the best 5 on the EC by if you “think they can rape” the WC?
If that’s the case, let’s just make this what it really is: a popularity contest. IF you’re a popular enough player, you can represent your coast, but if not, then fuck off.
I’m sorry, but the things people are saying in this thread are just insane. For the past 3 months (starting in March) I have been playing MvC2 pretty hardcore, since I got my will to play back in Texas and then went to Atlanta and now have been playing pretty consistently in CT. We even had a gathering of MvC2 players from back in the day and played for something like 12+ hours straight. For the past month, I don’t think I’ve gone more than 1-2 days at a time without playing Marvel.
The problem is, there haven’t been any semi-major tournaments on the EC since NEC, and even then not everyone showed up, and nobody was really “on their game.” Everyone is going to be trying to shake the rust off at ECC, and it’s going to backfire, because players like myself (who are unemployed and don’t have shit to do) have been practicing hardcore, playing more than they ever have, and are now BETTER than they ever have been.
Being good at Marvel, and all games, isn’t ONLY about skill: it’s about HEART. Having the desire to be there and win. The COMBINATION of actually practicing, and caring enough to want to represent your coast. Desmond has a track record of greatness, but where has he been for OVER the past year? He is a no-show and this is an example of a LACK of heart and a desire to play and win. I would not want him on the EC team, REGARDLESS of how well he’s done in the past, simply because he HASN’T been around and I really don’t believe he has the desire to show up and win against the WC when he hasn’t even shown up at the usual regionals.
But go ahead, keep putting down the “unpopular” marvel players. Keep having your little popularity contests that have less to do with skill and the desire to win, and more to do with hyping up dumb matches between players who want to see their names in lights, and hogging the MvC2 cabs all weekend. You have your little fun, but remember this: I was playing MvC2 the WEEK it came out on my Japanese DC, and I have played it since day ONE in 2000. Wigfall and I were placing at the very first MvC2 tournaments ever held (shit, we tied for 5th at the first big one ever held at Chinatown) and we were both major players BEFORE marvel.
I will bring a box of tissues with me to ECC, so when I peace all you big headed players out in the singles tournament, you won’t have to cry on your fellow popular player’s shoulder 
This is about MARVEL, not ST. You can’t just come into a marvel thread and plead to be on the team because you’ve been playing for like 2-3 months. PLEASE. Try 2-3 years, and maybe you should be considered. Yeah, you’ve been around since day one, but so have a lot of other people. If you’re not constantly playing marvel for YEARS, it’s not even worth the breath to be mentioned. No offense, but i doubt you’re not on the level of top ec players. You have no say in the matter, X has EARNED his spot. He has been placing top 5(if not higher) for YEARS in a row, and renovated the game with his sentinel play. He’s proven his skill/clutch @ various tournaments. Also, The people that orginally assembled the team SHOULD decide who should be on it. If X wants people to take his spot by playing him for money, so be it. You don’t have to prove to X that you’re worthy, but all the other members that make up the team as well.
I really don’t care anymore, reading those last few posts really just turned me off to the whole thing. A playoff isn’t good enough, playing X for money doesn’t prove anything…sounds like the EC has no hope, since according to those “in the know” there’s no legitimate way for anybody to prove they’re good enough.
Have fun with your popularity contest, and hogging the MvC2 cabinet like usual, I’m sure I’ll meet you all in singles and the tears and excuses will begin :sad:

i have faith in X… why?? at eccX they had so many retarded bonus mvc2 tourneys (the elections, the nominations, the reelectons etc.) that the real mvc2 shit started an entire day late, forcing phi to turn 5 frogger/joust cabinets into mvc2 machines… as such, fucking retarded teams were on top… x lost to julian… combofriend lost to omar the lamer, twice… i was beating random people… brandon lost to, eddie lee??.. … the final 16 were on the dope cabs, but since the first rounds were so random X never had a chance… Rick Mears is the fucking man and might have a good record against X, but theres a lot he hasn’t seen and thats fucking w/ the money… same goes for bryheem x 2… philly will get its chance to fuck shit up in the singles so u gotta go w/ brandon and top tier ny for 5 on 5… sorry dsp and vietnobody, dsp is too random and vietnobody needs to understand that flukin out on X won’t give u the experience to play 100% under high stake conditions… that comes w/ mad age, in fact X is at the “not giving a fuck, already been there” level, which means he’ll be twice as deadly see also duc or julian…
