Marvel Comics Thread

More info on Marvel’s SHIELD TV show.

Sounds pretty kinky.

That actually makes sense. I looked around and couldn’t really find any theories that make more sense than it being The Gentleman.

Do any of you guys feel like they could try their hand at Venom again in this franchise? I mean, it is notably better and there are a number of ways they could do it. It’d be really cool to see Agent Venom as a character (or hell, I’d be ecstatic if they gave him his own movie and did it right…). But after hearing the theories about The Sinister Six making an appearance, I find it kind of doubtful when combined with the fact that they plan to make another 3 of these movies…they’ll probably just spend them fleshing out the different villains as a buildup to Sinister Six.

Venom’s coming to the movies again. Not sure how though.

At one point the director Marc Webb tweeted a live action image of the bunker the symbiote comes from in the Ultimate comics on the actor who is playing Harry Osborn’s timeline. This lead people to believe that Harry will be Venom like the Ultimate cartoon.

Recently, they asked Harry’s actor and he knew nothing of this saying he thought that Eddie Brock was Venom. I get the feeling that this idea may have been so unpopular it was dropped, but that’s just speculation on my part.

Venom has had his own movie planned for several years, going back to the Raimi days but it’s been stuck in development hell. It seems there has been movement on it because Sony wants their own cinematic universe like Marvel Studios has. They have a director but that’s it.

Slott on Spider-Man 2099 in Superior Spider-Man.

Edgar Wright, director of the upcoming Ant-Man movie talks about Ultron being in Avengers 2 (most likely being created by Iron Man) and not in Ant Man’s movie.

***"[Ultron] was never in my script. Because even just to sort of set up what Ant-Man does is enough for one movie. It’s why I think “Iron Man” is extremely successful because it keeps it really simple. You have one sort of — the villain comes from the hero’s technology. It’s simple. So I think why that film really works and why, sometimes, superhero films fail — or they have mixed results — because they have to set up a hero and a villain at the same time. And that’s really tough. And sometimes it’s unbalanced.

You know, when I was younger I used to love Tim Burton’s “Batman.” I was like 15 and even then I was aware, “This is really the Joker’s film.” It’s like, the Joker just takes over and Batman, you really don’t learn too much about him. Comics have years to explain this stuff and in a movie you have to focus on one thing. So it’s about kind of streamlining, I think. Some of the most successful origin films actually have a narrower focus. You cannot put 50 years of the Marvel universe into a movie. It’s impossible."***

The problem with Thanos Rising is that they retconned some things. In Thanos #1 (2003), it was stated that when Thanos came to attack his home with his fleet, he said his mother is the only person he would have spared. Now, Thanos Rising he killing his mother as a teenager. Ugh.

X-men legacy #15 was cool. I liked how David burned those two guys in seconds with ease. The part with his mother dying reminded me a bit of Yu Yu Hakusho when Genkai is dying and he tells Yousuke that about death.

Anyway, Legion vs Cyclops next.

MTV’s Sara Schaefer is gonna write for Marvel.

They really retconned Thanos’ relationship with his mother? Come the fuck on.

With Thanos’ mother it’s actually a retcon of a retcon… of a retcon.

***Aaron: In particular, one of the things that I was most interested in with Thanos was the death of his mother. There were actually a couple of different stories that gave conflicting reports of what happened to Thanos’ mother. At one point we’re told she dies when Thanos returns to Titan and drops a nuclear bomb, and she is killed in the explosion. Later, I think in an issue of Silver Surfer, we’re told by Thanos’ father that Thanos brutally murdered his own mother, with his own hands. Not just for no reason, but it was Thanos basically dissecting his own mother, looking for the answers of the questions of his own DNA — “Why am I different, what’s wrong with me?”

That idea I seized upon. That defined the whole story for me in some sense. This idea of this kid, who’s so desperate for answers to his own being, his own psyche, that he dissects his own mother. Once I had that, I think I had the whole story. ***

I have mixed feelings about the series now that it concluded today. Loved the artwork. As for the story, there were some things I liked and some things I didn’t. Overall I liked Thanos and Death’s relationship being more subtle as opposed to how it’s presented here. Still worth looking into for the artwork.

James Spader cast as Ultron in Avengers sequel

Good choice! Villain for Molly Ringwald is good enough for Marvel LOL!

Didn’t like the end of Thanos Rising. Sure, I’ve been waiting too long to see Death finally give Thanos some affection. Apparently, their first kiss was in the Thanos mini series (2003) where she kissed him before fading into Oblivion and Thanos is like “perhaps that is what I wanted all my life”; now they have shown Death already kissing him way before that. And in the end, Death yelling at Thanos like an old wife “THANOS!! THANOS!!” Ugh, just ugh.

Interesting that power that can track people across time and space. And I love how Blindfold is just hanging there in his mind like it was her place, so not like her!

So, Legion had a son, eh? Molly from the Runaways turned out hot, muscular and big. Not long ago I have discovered I like somewhat muscle girls :open_mouth:
