Marvel Comics Thread

SD Comic Con coming up! Little bit more excited about it this year than years past since I’m into comics now. Before I didn’t care too much and I just liked walking around and getting free goodies.

Ya I know god forbid if marvel allows two Japanese together. BTW if they did “OMD” Storm and BP wouldn’t she be second fiddle to the x-men and stil won’t be important since she didnt fuck her way to the top like Emma? ROFL

Once again my store got sold-out on Thanos Imperative (and Gorilla-Man too)

Thanos Imperative = TOO GOOD.

Really enjoyed the ending for X-Men Second Coming and the Heroic Age X-Men One Shot. Marvel’s doing some great stuff with Mutants lately.

Dug Spectacular Spider-Girl too, nice surprise towards the end! Gonna miss this book…

The jury’s still out on Astonishing Spidey and Wolvie for me. Nice artwork but this story is BIZARRE… Aaron get back to Wolverine gutting people like he was in Weapon X, QUICK! :chainsaw:

On the plus side so far it seems like another book where Spidey’s marital status doesn’t matter heh.

Dear Mr. Gage,
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is not available on the Ninetndo Wii.

anybody else pick up shadowland #1 last week?

I’ma miss laura not with the x-men or in weapon X i think she’s about to go into hiatus.

Laura is getting her own ongoing.

ah very nice.

Yeah it was alright I guess. Bullseye was pretty funny at least.

Say Sano, is it OK to have a San Diego ComiCon thread updated with info from the event?

Question a bout that is SDC the biggest of the event’s? I actually wanted to go to this one but it looks like tickets are sold out. Might try the Chicago one.

Tizoc - Sure go ahead.

TheDarkPhoenix - It depends what you are going for? Big as in size - people - standing room only at events? Sure. The San Diego Con has become “Nerd Prom” so it features a lot of things that have nothing to do with comics like video games, celebrities and all of that like say having the cast from ‘The Office’ appear. So much so that comic book companies actually save a lot of their big comic book announcements for shows like Chicago, NYC and Wondercon.

I remember IDW even refused to go last year because there’s so little attention on actual comics.

Depending on your perspective, Hollywood has either destroyed the show or improved it.

Marvel did try to pull things back to comics last year by announcing Marvel Man and I think there were a few announcements like that, but the bigger ones you get are about their movies and cartoons. Marvel’s going to announce Bruce Banner’s replacement (no more Edward Norton) in the new Avengers movie at the con for example.

I’m not really knocking the show since Capcom and Studio Udon do go out every year, so if I could attend FOR FREE lol I’d probably go. Rurouni Kenshin’s creator Watsuki is going this year… DRAT… :bluu: Ah hopefully he’ll come to NY down the line.

It’s up to you. If you want to go more for actual comic books, go to Chicago. If you have other interests, hit up San Di. Econimically speaking you should probably try and hit up whatever is closest to you since you wind up spending a lot of $$$ wherever you go, so much stuff to buy and at cons everything is TAX FREE or at least it’s supposed to be. Whoever charges you tax at a con DO NOT BUY and hit up the next vendor.

Still the main draw is always buying back issues for REALLY CHEAP and you can still do that at any of these shows. Panels, no matter who shows up are always fun.

Hey Sano, mind giving me a list of good recent Spidey trades? I am getting the fall of Kraven stuff this week and I want to read some more good Spidey, was wondering what else besides Gauntlet I should look into after my Booster Gold fix.

JMS’ Spidey run is always good and fun-

Is that the Other BS? I hate things with eye stuff, HATE. When Morlun plucked out Peter’s eyeball than ate it I freaked the hell out. That was about the time I stopped reading comics and Spidey, the only thing I remember reading after was American Son.

Even though Grim Hunt deals with the aftermath of Other, it looks like a cool read. Plus Kraven has always been really badass to me.

lol, no this is BEFORE the Other; this is JMS’ early stuff before it and Civil War.

Along with JMS just about anything you can find on Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

Amazon.com: Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Vol. 1: Derailed (v. 1) (9780785122166): Peter David, Roger Cruz, Mike Wieringo: Books

Amazon.com: Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Vol. 2: Mystery Date (v. 2) (9780785122173): Peter David, Todd Nauck: Books

Amazon.com: Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Vol. 3: Shifting Sand (v. 3) (9780785125198):? - This one’s out of stock at Amazon so you may have to look elsewhere.

Also Marvel Knights Spider-Man is an excellent read too.

Amazon.com: Marvel Knights Spider-Man (v. 1) (9780785118428): Mark Millar, Terry?

Amazon.com: Marvel Knights Spider-Man Vol. 2: Venomous (9780785116752): Mark?

If you mean even more recent stuff New Ways To Die is hands down still my favorite BND story.

Amazon.com: Spider-Man: New Ways to Die (9780785132448): Dan Slott, Mark Waid?

Early Ultimate Spider-Man is really great. LOL I’m not sure I should even list it since the cartoon and upcoming movie will be based on it, but hey maybe their interpretations will be WAAAAAY off… Which is almost always the case anyway. Here’s the first 2.

Amazon.com: Ultimate Spider-Man: Ultimate Collection, Book 1 (9780785124924): Brian Michael Bendis, Mark Bagley: Books

Amazon.com: Ultimate Spider-Man: Ultimate Collection, Vol. 2 (9780785128861):?

Oh and if you have nothing against prose books (all words with no pictures) Spider-Man The Darkest Hours by Jim Butcher of the Dresden Files fame is still hands down one of the best Spider-Man stories I’ve read in the last 10 years.

How do you explain to someone that a certain writer is widely considered the all time best for a certain character?
