Marvel Comics Thread

Is he any good? or am i going to see my favorite Marvel title being fucked up?

Phonogram is fantastic, but I haven’t read any of his other stuff.
He apparently wrote Beta Ray Bill: Godhunter too.

Personally, I’d be more disappointed by Billy Tan taking over on art.

Phonogram is awesome. He also wrote for Warhammer. (yes, I know they don’t all use hammers you nerds)

I’m just happy Straczynski is on DC now.

YES, he’s been talking about doing Superman for the longest time, and he can finally get around to that. Plus, Brave and Bold.

Beta Ray Bill: Godhunter is completely awesome. If his Thor is half as awesome, you’re in luck.

Phonogram is the truth… It combines two of my favorite things: Britpop and comics.
YOU MUST DEFEAT SHENG-LONG TO STAND A CHANCE

Nice, gonna try to read this phonogram comic series

DAREDEVIL 500

new status quo

[details=Spoiler]So God-Bru left DD incharge of the hand and Izo was planning this right from the start from when Matt was a child and just got his power he also seemed to play everyone to get there including lady bullseye.
Overall great ending (not as good as Bendis and Maleev ending IMO) and I would like to where diggle will take it[/details]

daredevil 500 was great.

Yeah! DD made a big move. Major status quo change! :wow:

Haven’t finished reading it yet. It was nice to see Ann Nocenti writing Daredevil again. I only wish she was teamed up with JRjr again for the story but it was still cool.

Wolverine Weapon X was sick, lots of blood and death! I haven’t read X-Men Legacy yet.

^X-Men 227 was great IMO, the art and action were tops.
Also lol @ X-Men Legacy Annual #1, shouldn’t that be…Annual #10?

Overall a good comic week from both DC and Marvel IMO.

It won’t last.

Of course it won’t last. It’s a super-hero comic. Things always snap back to the way they were. It’s only been that way for the last 40 years.

Sure, things change but permanent change is difficult. On one hand you have creative teams who want things back the way they were. Then you have fans bitching that they want things back the way they were. Those two factors equal permanent status quo changes being difficult to mantain.

At least I don’t think that Spider-Man and Wolverine will ever leave the Avengers so it can go back to being a book nobody buys. That’s one change that will probably stick forever.

Anyway with Daredevil, so long as they tell good stories new scenario before going on to something else then it’s fine. Things in DD’s book change a lot so it’s hard to say how long anything will last.

Yeah it was great. I’m liking Moonstone as Ms. Marvel more than Carol. Evil Ms. Marvel FTW! :lovin:

Interview with Mike McMillian of True Blood. He’s writing a comic called ‘Lucid.’ Not for Marvel but I’m posting this here since he is a Marvel zombie and has an interesting critique of their current books.

"Even if you look at the Marvel Universe around the middle of this Dark Reign stuff, which is really cool. I love this concept that Norman Osborn is sort of taking over as the leader of the free world, but it?s a bit depressing at the same time. We?ve had Captain America die, we?ve had heroes that used to be friends killing each other off in Civil War. I feel like we?ve lost a little bit of that sense of fun when it comes to comic books. I came into it in the age where Amazing Spider-Man, you know, Todd McFarlane was hiding little spiders on the covers of the books."

I started reading comics a bit before McFarlane but I agree. There’s too much darkness in Marvel right now. We do need a little bit more fun. I hope after Dark Reign things lighten up a little.

xmen 227 was pretty good. Its still weird seeing them work with danger aka “the danger room”

I wish they’d just have rogue steam roll people tho.

THANK THE GODS Tan is only a fill-in artist for three issues and he will not replace Coipel on Thor

Oh and another marvel event (sigh) called “shadowland”

more events that will change the “status quo”

this was funny

To add Spiderman 5 & 6 found a writer
On August 16, 2009, it was announced that Sony has hired James Vanderbilt to write Spider-Man 5/6 and that the film will have a connecting plot.

Lots of stuff happened in Marvel books yesterday!

Hulk 601. 4 of the seven smartest people in Marvel have been revealed!

Spoiler

In no particular order, well the actual order was not shown - Reed Richards, Henry Pym, Black Panther and Beast. Amadaeus Cho who we already knew about who is officially #7. Bruce Banner is the eighth smarthest. So we are missing 2 characters. The smart money (lol) is on Doctor Doom and Iron Man.

Dark Avengers #8

Spoiler

Emma Frost and Namor being down with the Dark Avengers was all a plot by Cyclops and they are both hanging with the X-Men now. This got Norman Osborn so pissed he said “Scott. Fucking. Summers.” Only the ‘f’ word was replaced with dashes and symbols of course Marvel style. GO CYKE!

Wolverine Origins. And another MVC2 character bites the dust oooh…

Spoiler

Wildchild was killed by Omega Red and Omega Red in turn was killed by Wolverine with the Muramasa Blade. Romulus appeared on the last page finally. He actually looks pretty cool. He has sharp claws like Sabretooth and four adamantium claws on each hand (the extra claw comes from behind his thumb). He looks like Wolverine but with no pupils and longer white hair.

Ms. Marvel was dope too. Ditto for Dark Wolverine. New Avengers is always a fun read. Timestorm was no big deal really.

OLD MAN LOGAN PREVIEW

Wolverine is too powerful now. I don’t like that. Whoever came up with this idea to make him almost immortal really hurt him as a character in my eyes.

Damn, is it me or is Marvel suddenly decided rather then making one big crossover event, they will make a lots of smaller ones.
