if striders bomb was completely invincible as its in parachute mode, that would be all he really needs. It would stop storm which is his worst match up.
mag\cable\sent can be managed with s\d but not storm. Typoon hail is too good

interesting thoughts, the answer is that he’d be broken as holy hell
strider in mvc2 still has a few option trees that aren’t common, most of them lead to more doom calls(which creates perfect lockdown) or bomb+ overhead attempt(which gives him a really nice combo for 30-50% w follow up options back into lockdown). If you add extra blockstun to his option tree then it really helps him out to excel where he is already dominant…
more mixups more chip and better dmg on normals = pretty high up there
Do people still use Team Scrub (Cable/CapCom/Sent)? Has this team been phased out?
yes. no.
I think with recent and not so recent advances made with Sentinel, Magneto, and Storm (independently speaking) that team scrub has lost alot of its appeal. (IMHO) Cable is to easy to guard break in game, and that makes commando easy to snap out. The reason I think santhrax is so much better is that you can play offensive with storm on point, no matter what the other person picked. Scrub vs. MSP is gonna be rape no matter who wins. Santhrax vs. MSP you can play both offensive and conservate. Not to mention (good) people bait cable supers before calling thier assists, and rush at the correct times. I think Storm is a little harder to handle on point.
However, with a fantastic ability to guard break into death with both cable and sent, its kinda like Combofiend. You sacrifice mobility for power, and cables ungodly guard breaks. I dont think team scrub will be phased out ever, its all about preference. You should check the Jwong vs. Carlos vids on YouTube.
Hmm, I think I’ll just stick with it for now then. Thanks.
EDIT: I think I just like Cable-based teams cuz I’m a newb/scrub. Cable/CapCom/Sentinel is easy for me to play (not Sentinel), but even easier for me to play and UNDERSTAND why I’m doing what I’m doing. But I don’t want to invest time in playing this team if it’s outdated and has been replaced with a “newer” Team Scrub-esque squad.
fair enough. you might want to start learning sent, almost any team with sent+anti air is beastly.
Really, I just want to keep Cable in my team. Is there a Cable/Sentinel/??? team that’s good and competitive? I see Row uses Magnus/Cable/Sentinel. How does that work? Where’s the synergy?
I’d say any Cable/Sent team is playable. Anybody who can build meter fits the bill. Thats why Magnus is a popular choice for Cable/Sent-- he builds a ton of meter that he doesn’t need.
I think you’re in good shape learning the game with a cable/commando team though. Even if it isn’t the most worthy team for high level play, it’ll definitely teach you space control. Cable with bar has a total check on the horizontal plane, and Commando Anti-air gives you a sizable chunk of vertical too. I stole that from Viscant: http://www.video-opera.com/features/f0003.php
I’d also add that you should spend some time playing through any of the characters that interest you, because there’s a lot to be gained from understanding the low tier perspective too. Basically, picks whats fun to play, or if it can’t win, pick random fun character/Tron/Random God…
Video-opera has all the basics pretty much laid out. The wiki also has some good information on popular teams over the years.
Team scrub will suit you up until you reach mid-high level, up to that point it will teach you alot in a very simple gameplan.
storm/sent/cable is the team you’d pick after you get really good with sent/cap.
imo team scrub is still really good, cable is always going to fight sentinel easier than storm does, that always counts. Sent/capcom has a completely 5-5 match imo with magneto(at high lvl)
no duo in the game flat out dominates your sent/cap, it’s up to the player to build his sentinel up for fighting cable. focus on the robot heavily as he will be the core to maintaining advantage in the fights that aren’t so easy for team scrub.
for the negatives, cable gets rushed down, this will force you to
learn to block and
learn to put his attacks in spots that always make contact with ur opponent
learn to reposition and when to call assist, you can’t airdash with him so you might as well cover your helpers with a variety of zoning patternsXX ahvb
i have some pretty good cable setups, hit me up on aim sometime
^^ I would also like to learn some cable setups too…! if u dont mind
I’m rather new to Competitive Marvel at my arcade, and I was wondering if you guys could answer some questions for me.
1. What is “xx”?
I’ve gathered that it means to cancel, but please elaborate on this, I really don’t understand how to do this.**
3.Hayato’s Plasma Combos
I’ve tried to do these at my arcade, but it just seems I can’t pull them off consistently. I’m holding back. Do you have to hit the buttons REALLY fast?
Also concerning Hayato, his B. Hatato Attack as on wiki: "B.Hayato Attack - LP,HP Back LK, HK"
Does that mean, hit LP, hit HP, tilt back, hit LK, hit HK?
or do I need to do a “smash attack” of sorts with the back part of that super?
it just means to cancel, u cancel a move by just performing the next move,
example, normally if u have cable and u press hp 4 times, u will fire ur gun 4 times and cable will do a pose and then go back to normal, well u can do qcf+p after 4 hits, and cable will skip his pose and immediately do his hyper vyper beam. Since u skipped ur pose, u skipped a few frames of vulnerability. (i know this is a really simple example)
u just input the commands for ur 2nd character super, lets say u have magneto/cable/sentinel. So u have magneto on point, and u do QCF+KK. Now he will be doing his super animation, in the middle of this animation u can do cable’s QCF+PP and then cable will replace magneto and do his hyper viper beam super. this is called DHC (DELAYED HYPER COMBing)
i dont know shit about hayato
So let’s say I do Megaman’s charged mega buster. All I have to do to cancel it is fire mega buster again?
AFAIK you can’t cancel the Mega Buster in any incarnation.
Only certain moves can be cancelled?
Can you cancel normal attacks?
When I used Rogue, she had a small rushdown move, I think it was QCF + P. So if I wanted to cancel that move into her QCF + PP super, I just have to enter QCF + P in the middle of the move?
Yes, you can cancel normal attacks.
Well, if her super is qcf+pp and the special is cancellable into the special, you would do qcf+pp not qcf+p.
Take note that you can only DHC when the background is all blue and space-like.
Alright.
That’s helpful to know, thanks
I’ve been messing around in marvel at school lately. So far I’m still a scrub that wants to play mag/cable/sent. I can’t do jack with mag at all; however with Cable and Sent I can tell I’m learning a bit more. I can TK HVB fairly well and learned how to use that grenade to setup an AHVB. I’m learning Sent’s HSF loop, but I don’t really know combos with him. I mainly just try to zone with rocket punches.
I was thinking about replacing Mag with Cyclops and mess around with him for a while. It’s difficult getting better when you don’t have a copy of the game and not a lot of people play at my school =/
Also, does DHC consume an extra meter bar?
DHC uses the same number of bars as the super you DHC into. Mag’s Tempest DHC to HVB takes one bar (HVB requires one bar).
