It’s a very cool manga, I like the focus on SF2’s mechanics. I think even the Daigo haters will enjoy this.
Tip: You have to read it from right to left (lol, took me a couple of pages to realize this).
I actually bought this manga and so far it looks pretty good (judging from my very limited Japanese). The next chapters seems to be mostly flashback of Daigo’s childhood. It depicts how competitive he was even in school, his first experience with street fighter 2 in a video rental store, his first loss to a salaryman Blanka player…etc
The final chapters shows his encounter with the top players of street fighter 2 in the old days. Including 1992 Gamest Street Fighter Champion Kazatachi (?). It seems like there is going to be more chapters in the future since it said “to be continued” in the last chapter.
I’ll be the first to say it then this is pretty fucking bad. It’s unbelievably corny and Daigo makes for a terribly dull MC. (Then again this is only the first chapter so…)
I was checking Nohoho’s blog and I found a bio for this player. Nohoho himself is not sure how his name is spelled but the manga clearly calls him “Kazatachi”.
I don’t have a lot of concrete information (for that matter, I’m not even sure if I’ve got the name right,) but Tachigawa is often referred to as the greatest SF2 player ever. His trademarks included a mind-blowing combo ability as well as a ruthless corner trap. *
I hope he puts the day where I tried to say hi to him at an event and he just walked away in the manga. I know that was a life changing moment for both of us.
