Why use version 0.117 over 0.119, which is the most up to date? What issues does 0.119 have that 0.117 did not have?
direct3D filters with 3S don’t work in 119. the game just closes after loading for some reason. but that’s not the real reason, which is that people are sheep who use whatever everyone else uses. not entirely their fault since people do need opponents.
Next Question then.
Why do people continue to use MAME32 0.64, when PPK will play everything 0.64 does + 3S (and others)?
I dunno for me SNK games desynch a lot in the later mames, I had KoF98 desynch five times straight before switching to .64
The cps2 romsets everyone has don’t work with ppk. cps2 under went a source update in .114 iirc, meaning you needed the updated roms to play them on newer versions of mame.
which sucks because 0.64 is a horrible, horrible emulator no matter what connection you use.
Someone told me that before, and it’s bullshit; all my old CPS1/2 ROMS work fine.
They removed the xor files resulting in mame32k roms being obsolete
i can play my old romset just fine.
also most people don’t use Direct3D filters and have no idea what they are in the first place to care for them.
since most fighting games enthusiasts are console users as well, they tend to stick with what they know it works - mostly out of laziness, not knowing exactly how to upgrade or finding the upgrade process tedious (although it is not in most cases), ignorance etc.
sadly they disregard future versions without thinking about the improvements and once an emu/kaillera client has a broken version they will stick to the previous working one even though next updates will fix it…

then you’re lucky, for almost everyone else it’s exactly as spinalblood described. read the mame change logs if you don’t believe me. the reverse is also true .116+ romsets don’t work on .64

RockLee: my romset works in MAME32k 0.64 too (except a few NeoGeo games i don’t care about anyway), they also work in Kawaks 1.58 (all of them).
in fact when i “buyed” the roms i looked for a romset compatible with Kawaks 1.58
it seems that this very romset is also compatible with MAME32++ (all versions) and MAME32k 0.64 or 0.67
